- Presented here is a snippet of a presentation created by Drumz Uhuru and Intuitive African Dance and Drum Culture in honor of Ann Taylor, the first African American woman to own land and to sign an oil and gas exploration lease. This production was part of the Witness Series, curated by the Community Artists' Collective in Houston, TX.
These Cajon's presented here were built by Tarami Readus and friends. There are many variations of the Cajon as a musical instrument honoring the Ancestors in African communities across the Diaspora, most notably Cuba and Peru. This iteration of the Cajon, started by Drumz Uhuru, is to honor and develop those African American traditions such as Boogaloo, Ring Shout, Second Line, and Spirituals.
