So good and using the analogy to portray emotion. This is poetry at its finest. I love the story of icarus even more.

    This!
Oh, my small voice! Can echo, then boom!
Be heard. Listen. Yes, that'll be, where I want to be.

There are no words profound enough to express how beautiful and strong this poem is... how much it affects. Art like this makes me happy that I'm around to experience it.

“New theory: Icarus was Trans. He wanted to be a son so bad he flew into one [sun].” That verse gave me chills. The word play. AMAZING.

The gasp in the crowd at that line...I gasped with them too. What a kicker.

Does anyone know if Myles is still selling their chapbook? I've been trying find a way to follow their work and possibly buy a copy of their work but I keep circling back to Button Poetry. Any help is greatly appreciated! :)

I can’t tell you how much I love this poem and how much it speaks to me. I changed my name to Icarus and I will never forget my mom’s face of pure disgust when I told her. To this day, she never calls me by my name, and never uses my pronouns. I thought I was wrong in changing my name, but this poem helped me see otherwise.

This poem speaks volumes. It's a poem about being nonbinary/trans, but it's applicable to people outside of that community because it's really just about the frustration of not being perceived as who you want to be and being forced to act a certain way to be portrayed as who you really are.

    Hi Myles,
amazing performance of an incredible piece.
Everyone, please be kind to others of different experiences and self-expression. Silence is no longer an option, but anger without education only leads to more fear of what we don't understand.
We live in a world where things are divided into two halves when, in reality, there is a spectrum. Please help educate us cisgendered folk on how to interact with your kind rather than persecute us for assumptions we half been taught to make from birth. Things don't have gender, but how they are used and placed on the body denotes to others how your gender feels to you today. If you wear a dress we will call you 'miss' or say 'she is gorgeous' not because we are being rude or intentionally hurtful, but because you seem like you are a strong independent woman today based on the gender you are expressing through the things you choose to place on your body that are meant to indicate to others, from a time long before humanity existed, how you perceive yourself. Correct us when we are wrong and educate us when we ask questions, please. If you don't know the answers as to why you chose to express yourself in such a way today a simple "'cause I felt like it" goes a long way.
