I am actually hugely impressed. I have been researching patterns and suit making for a JASNA regency ball coming up and expected to spend several hundred dollars on my husband's ensemble. You have really impressed me with the results of your modern clothing collaboration. One thing that works especially well is your "model's" matching pants and waistcoat. That makes such a difference. Thank you for saving me and my husband a large headache!
I think the men secretly like to wear it from time to time actually. It’s fun, we look for events to attend or just get dressed up and go out to eat, etc.
I really enjoy wearing my 18th and 19th century clothes, was a wee bit nervous the first time I stepped out in public wearing them but not anymore, I look for the stares and delight in them.
I don't think it was so much an actual sense of fashion as it was a standardized convention of the time. Hard not to be "fashionable" when stores only sold "fashionable" clothing. No t-shirts or exercise shorts.
The gentleman in Black is not wearing a waistcoat, so he's breaking my immersion. You need a vest, my dude. The fellow you used as your model is wearing one, sheesh.
Thank you! We have two other videos about the regency period clothing on this channel (regency women and regency hair and make up). So far that is the only period we have covered.
Beau Brummell was a big influencer when it came to men's Regency fashion. The Regency period, for both women’s and men’s Regency fashion, saw the final abandonment of lace, embroidery, and other embellishment from serious men’s clothing. Beau certainly helped with that. (More on men's Regency fashion can be read here: www.janeausten.co.uk/an-overview-of-mens-regency-fashion/)
Hi Daniel! Every jacket in the video is from the ladies section. They are tailored to suit the period really well. It’s a great hack for dressing regency without spending big dollars ☺️
Dirty Boxers gosh it has been a while! Luke’s tie was made out of my baby’s muslin cloth/swaddle 😬. It was a square piece that we folded to get the diagonal length. I estimate it was around 20cm longer than Liam’s. If I did it again I would measure twice around their neck + desired hang length + 10ish cm for the knot. Hope that helps!
Ahnyis B hello and thank you! We converted a ladies red wool coat (from an op shop/goodwill) into the military jacket by cutting tails and adding gold trim and buttons ☺️
@@ahnyisbillingsley3401 so is my husband! (the one wearing the coat in the pics and video) Ladies coats are just really suited to converting into costumes :)
Oh how I wish this time would still exist. Nowadays if you would dress like that.. People would stare at you like an alien and question your mental health. I’m a woman by the way (secretly wishing to wear hoop skirts like Lizzy or Jane Eyre) and just developed my passion for the early 19th century, thanks to Charlotte Brontë and Jane Austen. I love how you adjusted your language to that time period! I’m German and read some of the English classics. People were so well mannered and eloquent back then.
My husband and I, along with a group of friends, dress up in all periods and go to events or just out to eat. We are always well received by the public, they love it!
I do apologise for the delay, there was a glitch with my comments! We have a video for ladies also. These were made specifically for a 21st celebration so nothing other than those in terms of period costume.

Lydia Derhake thank you for taking the time to comment! I’m SO happy to hear we saved you some cash 🎉
“Trust in Mr. Collins”... ☠️😂💀🤣
It’s a bit of an in joke in my family...especially his hand to mouth gesture 🤣
Ladies be honest.....
How many of you wish men still wore this from time to time in this current age
gonzalez 01 it’s my husband in the video and I thoroughly enjoyed filming it 😉🤣

Love your newfound confidence katanatac!
Thank you love when men actually had fashion sense
I don't think it was so much an actual sense of fashion as it was a standardized convention of the time. Hard not to be "fashionable" when stores only sold "fashionable" clothing. No t-shirts or exercise shorts.
Fashion that actually made them look great! I agree! Some fashions these days are... questionable at best. Thanks for watching!
I'll admit it was nice to see my husband (Liam) in this type of outfit rather than his regular t-shirt and exercise shorts :P
“Standard microfiber pants I have picked up from the Kmart” 😂
Liam is well suited to the Regency period with his beautiful curls. It is really my favorite period for men as well as women.
Hey! thank you a lot for this, I have Jane Austen book club and boys don't want to go to events because of clothes, this is really helpful!
Can't believe I missed replying to this comment. So sorry! How is the book club going? Thanks for your lovely comment.
looks like you guys had just as much fun in making the video, as I had in watching it! great job
Thanks Jochem!
poor Liam had to be "fine" but "not ideal" for almost everything. xD Thank you for this video! It was very helpful
Poor Liam indeed 🤣 Glad you found it useful 💕
I love this look on men!
Me too 😍
This man is a voice actor. Top tier stuff
the man is hilarious hahahaahahah but love the video
Thanks very much Yukti!
Thank you! We have a Jane Austen ball in a few days and this helps a lot!!!
Looking sharp mate. Will we see a demonstration on how to wear a Regency neck cloth?
The gentleman in Black is not wearing a waistcoat, so he's breaking my immersion. You need a vest, my dude. The fellow you used as your model is wearing one, sheesh.
Rightly so! A waistcoat would have been ideal.
This is a good way to get people interested and started. Especially the guys. From here they can evolve with more research and support.
Im a everyday regency, and I must say its a very nice improvisation!
Omg thanks! Now I can save much more money than to rent such expensive outfit! Our Regency themed party ic coming up this Saturday! So wish me luck👍
I loved this, do you have anymore videos that discus period clothing like this?
Thank you! We have two other videos about the regency period clothing on this channel (regency women and regency hair and make up). So far that is the only period we have covered.
this is beautiful and very helpful! thanks guys!
So glad you found it helpful!
That was awesome, I really enjoyed this presentation. 👍

merthur88 thank you! ❤️
Is it a prerequisite to have a broad Australian accent
Oh definitely 🤣🙌🏾
Very classy indeed! Vraiment plus agréable.
Lmao, wotsup with the ladies jacket 😂😂😂😂

Informative! Thank you!
Simply wonderful my dearest darling.
"add a waistcoat to anything, and all of a sudden... you are Regency."
Epic performance. Collars up!
Well thank you kindly Watling & Bates!
Out of interest, how long/wide is Liam’s tie compared to Luke’s? Cheers gents

Awesome! Thank you dear sir. Would be amazing to see more gents wear too 😜 very rare breed of video for information.
Dirty Boxers thank you for the suggestion! Is there a particular period in menswear you feel there is a gap in? Or just period menswear in general?
Little But Once period in general, tbh. I’m currently looking in to regency / Victorian
Spot on lads!
How did you get the military clothing please tell me and I love the costume and the vest\waistcoat

This is awesome!
Thanks Christian!

DRVGONFLY we think embracing your style is worth doing regardless of what others think!! Thank you for your insightful comment 💕

Very entertaining indeed.
Thanks so much Kenneth. The brotherly dynamic certainly helps!
Ya'll got anymore of these.

what type of coat is he about to put on... I'm trying to find one at either the thrift store or amazon
All the coats in the video were from the ladies section of thrift shops ☺️
This is fantastic
Thanks so much! It has been great for us ☺️
exquisite🍷
Thank you Jonathan!
