Yoshi is awesome. This guy has some real talent. He always breaks everything down over and over. I think he has moved on from scratching. Hopefully he comes back someday. Peace Yoshi
2 nights ago I finally experimented with starting with the backward chirp and already my mind is blown by the possiblities of combos. Still need to tighten up the execution of it and work on speeding up. Thanks for this vid its opening my mind to experiment with the fundamental scratch combos. For now I'm concerned about how well the combos are executed and not so much how complicated they are.
I watched this and broke it down. (Finally Understand lol it is mind boggling.) So the issue is when you see him do the flare at the beginning the 3rd sound ends with the fader open. but when he starts to instruct the 212 he starts that 3rd sound with the fader closed. (So it is a dope as Transform Chirp Combo)
I made these combos naturally just by practicing 2 click flares and chirps a lot. But im gonna practice the combo intentionally now as a more complicated warm up technique and backup scratch when im not feeling it
@DJUsive1 I do... but when done slow it sounds imho more crisp when done "normal" . I learned it from not looking at my hands... It´s kind of different in hamster style :)
Your fader hand needs to be very precise on the cutoff points. He is very mechanical with his technique. I use a much shorter fader movement but this guy has shown me what it takes to be more precise on my cuts. I've really been studying his finger technique to improve my weak hand.
They are suuuuper similar. Transforming begins with fader closed. When you push the fader open and closed (1 click), you get just one sound. A flare begins with fader *open*--pushing the fader closed and back open quickly in the middle of the sound (1 click) will produce two dounds. By starting w/an open fader, you get more sounds than you would with the same number of transforming clicks. This revolutionized scratching in the 1990s. (My flare scratches are still slow.) Respect from Chicago!
fantastic. what a cool tutorial. it´s like three in one tutorial ;) .. .. and I could not figure it out when I heard it once played fast. I tried it so often...
when you delay or offset flare techniques (like 2 or 3 click orbits, OG & Crescent flares ) by one phrase they can become closed timing when done in sections, but the open ends can still be heard when the pattern is rocked continuously. The boomerang scratch is another great example, I remember the q bert instructional teaching the open timing phrasing and most of the early internet videos being taught in the closed phrasing, but it's the same scratch pattern.
the scratch you do @ 2:43 is sooo sick and i'm trying hard to learn it. Please tell me if i'm close...it is 8 notes?? og flare backwards (3 notes) - reverse chirp (2 notes) - og flare (3notes)??? And if you want to you can start with the reverse chirp??
para el scratch solo hay que tener buen oido para los beats y el scratch sale solo y por supuesto con mucha practica. estos tutoriales son solo perdida de tiempo.

I'm still working on this lol
thank you! i owe you a coffee!
I feel sorry for every turntable that needs to withstand scratch technique explanation.

sick....thanx for spreading the skratch wisdom!
Dude, thanks for the tutorial! I'm gonna go home and practice it now!

just a note, i think he missed a fader shut in the picture in the middle
GREAT ANGLE! All turntable videos should be shot like this!
So much help. Thanks.
very very good skill but I also like that break a lot (the track)
Amazing! Very helpful!
too good! thanks for posting, killer combo.
Sounds like transforming to be honest unless I'm missing something?
Your missing something

I’m incapable of being this good and it’s frustrating
ur the man yoshi! nice tutorial!
Thats not a flare. You have to start and end with fader open for it to be a flare.

sick combo
I'll keep on practicing this technique until I go Fast like him......Any tutorials on how to get your clicks go fast?
Just slow down the beat loop and then go faster and faster till you got it😉
Thank you🤙
great TUT!

A flare has 4 sounds...? So confused. I feel like he's talking about a boomerang scratch not a flare
of course it has 4 sounds, you cut a baby scratch in half twice
where did you get those knobs for the faders? have the same mixer. Which one fits?
thanks a bunch, very helpful!
thanx for breaking it down
Thanks! I know what i'll be practicing this week lol :D
So is this 1 flare click then close the fader into a chirp ?
How do you do the combo so quick ?? It's mind boggling
You just pratice like hell and after a year or two you got it lol
sounds like a tazer scratch
@beat4battle is it 212212212... right?
Goood .Thank you .
Can you break this down a little slower please..That would be great!!
