I am a pure Hakka and as a Malaysian I love Peranakan food. And my favourite food is Nyonya food. It is very difficult to get authentic nyonya or Peranakan food in our present time because the preparations and cooking of Nyonya food is laborious, meticulous and time-consuming affair. The grinding, blending, pounding, and marinating of the ingredients can take several hours. What sets Nyonya cooking apart from typical Chinese or Malay cuisines are the ingredients. Nyonya kuihs are more refine than Malay kuihs. Their Nyonya laksa is different from the Chinese curry laksa noodles. The Mee Siam you had is Mee Siam basah which served with sauce which is popular in Singapore whereas in Malaysia is the dry mee Siam. I personally love the dry mee Siam. By the way, mee Siam noodles is always cooked with mee hoon. Tai Bak, a Nyonya dessert consisting of sweet “noodles” served in a light syrup and shaved ice. Not many places are selling it in Malacca and the non -babas and nyonyas would not appreciate such authentic dessert. Made from three types of flour - rice, tapioca and wheat - tai bak looks like elongated pink and white cendol. Great to know Po Po had a good short break away from home. It does her well. And Po Po looks younger in her kebaya. Po Po should travel more to enjoy her remaining years. Stay well!

Pretty Moi, Bee Tai Bak is an old fashioned rice pellets eaten with syrup n used in many ceremonial offerings. Not a cendol whuch is made from green bean flour. I agree with you that it is not as tasty as cendol.

nyonya 菜也不是 my 个人 cup of tea，我也是客家人(不过是广东梅县客)家乡怡保吃惯广东菜客家菜，nyonya 菜酸酸辣辣(不会 describe) 又椰糖又班兰什么的，个人也是吃不惯不喜欢吃。最后一次拜访马六甲是廿多年前了。
