- I installed this Vehicle Blackbox DVR full HD 1080p Dual Dash Cam Mirror with front and rear cameras over a year ago, here's a follow up video on that DashCam Mirror after 1 year of use.
Its cheap but does it still work? what problems have I had? What changes have I made? Would I still recommend it? Also answered a few of your questions in the video too.
I ended up splitting it in two as it turned out way longer than I intended, I put the Q&A in a separate video. The first video I go through what problems I may have had and what changes I've made or learnt. Then I go through the settings and the buttons. Then finish with the FAQ's in part 2 and conclusion.
Hopefully this will help some of you guys thinking of buying one of these dash cam mirrors or have questions on the unit.

This dual camera mirror I purchased was unbranded and was just called a Vehicle Blackbox DVR full HD 1080p rear view mirror dash cam but I've seen the same dual camera mirror branded as a Buyee Dash Cam Mirror, an IsYoung Dash Cam Mirror, Partim Dash Cam Mirror, a NexGadget Dash Cam Mirror an Oumax Dash Cam Mirror, TripCam PRO Dual Lens Dash Camera and CoPilot CPDVR3 RearView Mirror Dual Camera System, there maybe more brands too, I'll update the list if I see any or post others in the comments if you know of any.
Additions to the list: Furiauto Dash Cam Mirror, Sendow Dash Cam Mirror, Oxygentle Dash Cam Mirror, Syin Dash Cam Mirror, NextBase Dash Cam Mirror, QCY A70 Dash Cam Mirror, CD102, JVIN Dash Cam Mirror Car Video Recorder, PZ916, RH-A20.
So if its Buyee, IsYoung, Partim, NexGadget, Oumax, TripCam PRO or the Co-Pilot CPDVR3 as well as Furiauto, Sendow, Oxygentle or NextBase they all appear to be the same unit, tho the software seems to change slightly, intro screens etc and I've heard of people having a slightly different lists in the options and the rear camera varies, some are square (I don't know if they are different specs) I chose one with the round rear camera because I preferred how it looked. Also the video quality, I don't know if it changes between brands or not. But for example the TripCam PRO or the CoPilot CPDVR3 that I just discovered is twice the price I paid for this one so maybe the image quality is better too?

Hello Lee & thank you for the vids, they helped me a lot when using my mirror cam. One thing I did learn which I may have missed in your vids was to only use the motion sensor when the car is parked up, do not use it as a permanent setting. When activated during normal running, it confuses the camera & takes random footage when driving. As I say, you may have mentioned it & may have missed it but hope it is useful for anyone who uses one of these cams & notices the picture randomly coming on & off. Disable the motion sensor during driving, park up, then activate the motion sensor if desired.
Thanks mate, I'm glad the video was of use to you. Yeah I did mention the motion sensor briefly only to say mine doesn't appear do anything. I've had mine switched on for over two years and it's never done anything, either while driving or parked up. My car is stored in a garage at night, theoretically it should pick up the motion of me entering the garage every time I go to get the car out, but its never done it once.
Oh DEAR! I hope you realise the camera isn't recording a large part of the right hand side of your screen. This item is meant for left hand drive vehicles, not suitable for UK 😅

Guys you need to attach the red wire coming from the rear camera to the reversing light on your car to get the reversing lines to come up.

The reverse camera has an aux port on my mirror.Despite having plugged it in and connected the red wire to the reverse light, the image does not appear on the mirror. Only the front camera's image appears. The leds on the reverse camera comes on but the image does not show. Any advice for this maybe

I recently purchased one of these units and found that the rear view camera picture seems to be inversed. Left is Right. Is there a way to fix this.
Hi , I just need some help I have the exact model of reverse cam and Im having difficulty on the back camera …… when its facing on opposite direction for example the pole at my back is on the right and its showing on the video its on the left ……is there any buttons to invert the view of or change the positioning ……i cannot put the camera upside down becasuae the video will be upside down as well ….. hope some could help
Yeah I know what you mean, it's the same with mine, think its suppose to make it appear like you're looking through the mirror or something, I cant remember now. Anyway, there is no option to flip it unfortunately, not on my model anyway.
How do I delete the protected files on the sd card. Tried formatting device and my Mac? they just won't delete?

Hi guys..I have one of this units but the rear view camera is missing. Where can I get one to suits this mirror? The connection going is very small and i am afraid to get the wrong one.
I don't know, I've only seen these for sale either with the rear camera or without the rear camera, but not the rear camera alone.

Hi, mine is not turned on when I start my car, and when I press any button it's still blank. Could you please help me on that?
Check there is power going to it. Try a second power source like plugging it into your computer via usb or other usb charger. If it turns on then you know it's not getting power in the car, if it doesn't turn on from any power source, or u know 100% it has power in the car then I don't know why it wont turn on, I'd suspect it could be faulty if so.
Did you ever find out how to get reverse parking Lines show on screen and also can you just have main screen on reverse camera only plus my reverse camera only came with only red wire no black wire should I attempt to Earth it myself

The dashcam is worth it if only for the rear view mirror itself. Much wider field of view, so my blind spots are covered out the back side windows, and the tint makes it much easier on the eye. Camera/DVR itself is a bit so-so, I might keep the mirror and buy a better dash camera. It's good, but there are better in the same price range.
Yeah its cheap as chips but does the job.
My mirror does not show the split images of front and rear cam (only shows the front cam), even though I connected everything correct. What problem would it be. Thank you
The left arrow key selects which camera(s) to view on the screen, shown at 20:40
If no rear camera is displayed, check to see if it is recording the rear camera to the sd card in order to check if the rear camera is working or not.
If it's recording the rear camera then at least it's recording it, but the left arrow should allow you to display it, if its not recording the rear camera either then maybe the rear camera is faulty?

When I plugged in the cigarette lighter power is on the picture of the earth came on . I try to push menu or mode button nothings come out on the screen. I wait and wait a about 5mins still didn’t do anything. The car stop and park . Do I need to drive for something to happens ?

You mean it doesn't get past the opening screen? You cant see the camera? It should just start showing the camera on the screen automatically.

I see. I've no idea mate, but it sounds faulty. Can you return it to where you bought it from. You could try pressing the reset switch in the back (it's a tiny pin hole) and removing the memory card to make sure it's not that that's causing it, worth a try but I doubt either will work.

I don't know, but that isn't right. Contact who you bought it from if it's new, maybe it's faulty.

Check 'boot record' is ticked on in the setting. It's called boot record on mine, if you untick that it doesn't auto record on start up. Hope it helps.

I have problem with adjusting time and date when I turn on camera... It cant memory date and time. Everytime when I set this data, it is correct. When I turn off car, it deleted date and time and put 2019 year.... Everytime I need again to set time and date.
Do anyone know, what is the problem?

I don't know, but one guess could be that the internal battery is dead so it's resetting to factory settings every time you cut the power.
The motion detection feature makes a protected video if it detects movement. Could be a security feature when car parked at home or anywhere else. Could fill the disc if it sees lots of movement.

Hi there, My Blackbox DVR mirror dash cam does not retain the date and time settings. It keeps on defaulting to the 2018 date.
That's annoying, maybe turn the option off so it doesn't record the date and time on the video then if it's wrong, maybe better to have no date showing rather than the wrong one.
I have a convertible, can the back up camera part be mounted on the back seats?
You can either mount it with screws or double sided sticky foam pad it came with.. it up to you where you place it, and every car is different. If the back or the seat is solid u might be able to stick it to them. If its not solid it might wobble a lot.

the parking lines? dont know, there is no option on mine to turn them on or off, they appear when the rear camera is auto displayed when the car is put into reverse. if urs is set up to do that then they should appear.
LeesRandomVids does it have a button to press that records emergency video. Like you press it and it saves and locks the last 4 minutes in a file. Like if you see something stupid on tge road that you want to save can you press a special button to lock it instantly.
Yeah mate, press the button that looks like a flower and it protects the current file being recorded, it wont record over it and you cant delete it without formatting the card. Depending what you have your cyclic recording length set to will determine the amount saved. 1 minute files obv the file saved will be 1 minute long, 3 minute 3 and so on.

Can anyone please tell me what version this dash camera is? because there are a lot of dash cameras that look exactly the same to this one and also state on the box that they have all of the features such as parking guard and G sensor for example, but they do not.
Yeah you're right. This one of mine didn't have a brand name or anything on the box, it just said Vehicle Blackbox DVR.

No, it just records video files to an sd card.
Is there anyway to edit the night vision? We just got ours today and the night vision is terrible. You cant even read the license plate from the car in front and theres so much glaring from all the street/car lights

Hi ya I’ve not installed my reverse camera yet cause it’s a lot of trouble to get at the wires inside the the tail cluster (fiesta 2012). I’ve seen in the Manuel there’s a fuse for a reverse camera would that work?
Do you need to wire it to the tail cluster? I mean is that for the other wire to switch it to a reverse cam like mine was? If your rear camera plugs into your mirror and works without it you could install it just like that and not bother wiring it to the light cluster, the only thing you'd lose is it aromatically displaying the rear camera view when u put it in reverse, but you'd still have the rear camera recording.

Camera light? Mine doesn't have a light so I can't help you I'm afraid. All I can say is check through the settings, see what options are there.
Just a stupid question, I had installed the dash cam and just rolling for about 2 hrs, the screen shows that the memory is full, I dont know what to do?
Make sure cyclic record is on in the options. Cyclic record is the option that allows it to record over the oldest files so once it's full, it starts recording over the oldest ones and then is can keep recording forever looping over and over. If cyclic record is turned off it will fill the card then have no room left to record anymore. Hope it helps. 😄
If the poster's solution didn't work for you then the unit might be broken. My unit filled up and "format" didn't seem to do anything. I removed the card and formatted it on my laptop and verified the card was blank.
Oddly, when I reinstalled the blank 16GB card, the camera reinstalled all the videos! It apparently has internal memory that is dynamic not static (files don't disappear with power removed). If the unit is corrupted then there is no way to remove those files, even by formatting the card.

Yeah, it can be wired so it automatically displays the rear camera on screen when the car is put into reverse. I did with mine, but I never actually use it to reverse with as I prefer turning and looking through the back window. Mine will not stay on it will it stop, power off after a few minutes when I install the sd card?
All I can suggest is try another SD card (if u have one) just to see if that is the problem. Other than that, I don't know.

boot video seems to be the .gif animation that appears when the device is turned on. I guess that format is inside the ROM of the device itself.

It's not the greatest at night to be honest, low quality cameras struggle in low light, but it's still better than having no camera.
I made a sample footage video with a little bit of night driving in it, you can see how dark it is but the road was actually well lit. The rear camera, which is even lower quality actually looks a bit lighter than the front at night. You'd be lucky to get a number plate, but would still show if the other person was driving dangerously, and give you evidence etc.

I have installed the dash cam and it works fine with the supplied rear view camera, but want to install a second rear camera to use only when I tow my caravan. I bought a second camera and am prepared to exchange plugs on the unit to use one at a time
as it is quite easy to get to on the mirror. Unfortunately I cannot get the second camera to work. It has a separate power supply and a RCA video output which I can wire to the 2.5mm input plug on the dash cam, but to no avail. Any ideas?
Ahh I see, yeah put the 2nd cam on the caravan and swap the wire over on top on the mirror when towing. It must be a compatibility thing, the dash cam doesn't like the format or whatever that the 3rd camera uses.
I have no idea how to get that camera to communicate with the dash cam mirror but one idea I have is.. you could buy two of these dash cam mirrors both with rear cameras but only use one and just take the rear camera out of the second (at least these dash cam mirrors are cheap). As long as these two dash cam mirrors are identical they should work with each other (hopefully but I dont know for sure, buying one another months later or from different buy you could end up with one a little different, its a risk.) Then just use an extension lead so it will reach the back of the caravan.
Actually, id say test your current rear camera in the car through the extension lead first before buying a second unit, maybe the extra length could be a problem and the signal gets too weak? Not sure if it is but better to test that before wasting money only to find that out.

Hi I have just installed a DVR full HD 1080p Dual Dash Cam Mirror with front and rear camera and the problem is that the rear camera( square with 4 LEDs) is showing mirror image. What can I Do please ??
Some are flipped some arnt it seems. Mine is flipped, that is if I play the rear video back on screen the number plates read backwards ruclips.net/video/G9-7_AorJyI/видео.html However this is correct if you want to use the rear camera as a reverse camera too as it's showing the view you would see as though you was looking out of your rear view mirror and looks natural.
Which way is yours? Does yours show the licence plates reading left to right or right to left? Someone recently posted theirs wasn't flipped (plates read correctly) but it was unusable as a reversing/parking camera.
Unfortunately I'm not aware of any way you can flip it on the mirror camera, there's no option on mine. But if it's flipped (plates read backwards) I'd say this is correct/better.
I downloaded a free 'flip and rotate' program and in the event of wishing to see a non-mirror image, it's a 1-minute operation.

Hello.How do I adjust reversing lines? My are points to high and I can’t adjust with moving back camera up or down.
Hi, the lines are just embedded on the image I think, no way of adjusting them without adjusting the camera itself. I agree I think mine look too high too, but I never use it to reverse with anyway so it never bothered me.

Haw can i make the whole screen to be like a mirror with no colour, mine is blue and i cant see properly
It's blue to help stop the dazzle from cars behind you at night if they have strong lights. Normally you would angle your mirror downwards with the lever on the mirror, but doing this would point the camera at the sky, so they used this blue effect instead. You can't remove it, I didn't like it at first either, it seemed too dark, but I have got use to it now and it's fine for me, I dont really notice it now. Give it a little time you may get use to it too.
Can you fit the rear camera outside and use it as a reversing camera when reverse is selected?
Yep, it says it's waterproof and able to be fitted on the exterior. I've seen ones which look like these fitted to cars I've been following that have them fitted just above the number plates. I've not fitted mine outside tho so I can't tell you how durable they are.
Hi Lee, thanks for a great video. I bought my device about 3 years ago. I had 2 issues with my device so far.
1. The adapter started to stop working and had to buy a new one.
2. The other big issue I have is a rattling sound on all footage recorded. This only happens when I go over uneven roads. It's very annoying when playing back video files. I'm not sure if it's something on my car's actual mirror. I recently bought the same system for my girlfriend with the same issue on hers as well, a rattling noise. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Another issue on her device. Her small screen is not bright enough. She can hardly see what's on the mirror. The actual recorded material is fine. Just the onscreen that's not clear enough.

I've no idea what the rattling is. If you say it's the same on both yours and your girlfriends units then it must be the unit itself, or really bad luck to get the same rattle in both cars lol. Only thing I can think of is to check that the cables that plug into the recorder are not rattling against the unit.
Mine doesn't have any options to alter the screen's brightness so I don't know, the option in the settings called 'LCD brightness' on mine is actually the auto screen of timer.
Just got this unit. Like it alot. Only down side is how poorly it fits over the rear view mirror. Otherwise it's a pretty solid unit.

Thanks for sharing. I learnt a lot and could make changes that made the camera work better. However, I don't know if you had these issues. My car is a right hand drive and the camera is on the left, I don't know if there are any with the camera on the right but I am having a difficulty capturing both sides of the roadway. Also, the camera seems to be too heavy for my rear view mirror and causes it to shift downwards making it difficult for me to see . I constantly have to be fixing it! Any suggestions for these issues?
Hi, I'm glad you found it useful. On the camera on the left issue, yeah my car is right hand drive too, did you angle the camera on the back of the mirror as far right as it can go? I assume you know it moves. I had to angle mine as far right as it would go, it still points very slightly left when the mirror is set correctly but it covers just about all of the road ahead. On the issue of your mirror dropping, I personally havnt had that issue but every car is different. I don't know what to suggest, hmm, maybe push some blue tack or something into the joint where the stalk enters the mirror at the back to try and stiffen it up a little? not sure, but stiffening the joint may help, but don't use glue or anything like that or your mirror will be stuck. I think id try that first, blue tack, at least you wont ruin your mirror by giving that a try. hope it helps anyway.

That's the parking guard option, turn it on or off. I explain how it works in the video where I go through the settings. hope it helps.

Hi great video tutorial, One question my rear sq camera has only one red wire dose not have a black one, (apart from the main one to go back to the mirror). Dose the red wire link into the live reverse wire on the reverse light.

whats the measurements from the inside of the camera to the edge so I can see if it will fit on my rear mirror
Ugh I dont know off my head, I'll have to measure when I'm in the car and remember to take a tape measure with me lol, but if it helps, it was roughly the size of my existing mirror, or very slightly less.

Does a mondeo with rooting around doors, parcel shelf and stuff and still a 50cm left to play with, so yeah would reach depending how you run it, hope that helps.
Yeah mate, mine is a small car but I had loads off wire left. I installed mine over 2 years ago now so I don't know the exact length, I wish I had measured it and made a note for people.
Does yours freeze, shake and show blue/purple colour on the screen the front camera only, my rear one is fine, just the front one playing up, sometimes freezes and switches off or goes white with coloured lines like someone smashed it, the front camera is ok, just when I start to drive then shows on the mirror it starts to shake and freeze, then after abit it will come on perfectly fine then after abit start again.
No mate, its never done that, mine's still working ok, have a check of all your wires make sure they're not loose or broken, other than that, I dont know.

Hi, great video, thanks. Do you run off direct power? I ask because my clock resets to zero if I do not drive for more than a day or so. I presume this is because I run the dash from the cigar lighter.
Thank you. No mate, mine is plugged into the cigarette lighter socket too (I installed a second one under the dash wired from the original one) which also disconnects power when the car is turned off. Mine keeps the time (gains a few minutes over the months). Maybe it's the internal battery that keeps the time and is just about dead, (just a guess).

How is it driving at night? Does the mirror has an anti glare function?
The only anti glare it has is the blue tint of the screen, this does stop the glare but makes it look darker too. It felt strange at first but I've got use to it. You 100% have to set the screen to turn off automatically tho.
WDR = Wide Dynamic Range Gives you better Color more dynamic in picture so it looks good. sky and ground.

No mate I don't, did you angle the camera on the back of the mirror as far to the right as it will go?
Once I set my mirror so I can see behind me I angled the camera to the right as much as it can go, it still points very slightly to the left but nothing noticeable.

Yeah mine is still working, tho the internal battery is basically dead. I can't use the mirror with the screen on, I set it to automatically turn the screen off after 20 seconds in the settings.

To stop it recording just press the OK button. Press it again to restart it recording.

Does my dashcam need to connected to the battery for the sensor to work when my car is parked and turned off? I have everything on but i doesnt seem to work. Hoping for a reply 👍
Depends what you mean by work mate. While it is turned off it doesn't record anything unless it senses an impact, then it should auto boot up and record a short (locked) clip then turn back off.
I assume that's what you mean so to answer your question: No it doesn't need to be connected to the battery for this function, it uses the internal battery in the dash cam mirror to do this (mine is getting very weak now). Also make sure you have 'Parking Guard' enabled in the options. This is what it is called on mine and makes it turn on when it senses an impact while powered down, if you turn this off it wont power up.
Go to 10:22 in the video where I show the parking guard in action, how it works, boots up records etc.

@@LeesRandomVids cheers for the reply mate. Mine says "Parking wake" i'm assuming it means the same thing as "parking guard." It is enabled and i cant seem to find anything else. I've tried tapping the car and it just doesn't turn on.
You're welcome. Yeah sounds like it's probably that, especially if there is no other option similar. Don't know why it's not working tho, maybe it's not very sensitive, mine goes off when closing the door sometimes. Try turning everything on. Also, have you tried turning the mirror on while there is no power going to it, like when the car is turned off or it's unplugged from the lighter socket, to make sure it powers up on the battery. Just to eliminate it being a dead battery inside stopping it from powering up, my battery is very weak now.
I have a motion detection option on mine that I cant get to do anything.
I was having issues with the backup cam and you helped me out greatly 👍🏻 but it seems my files are not saving. Once turned on it’s recording so once I press “OK” does it automatically save because that doesn’t seem to be the case when I put the SD card in my computer.

Hmm that's strange, but are your files on the memory card? Can you play them back on the mirror? You don't need to press OK to save them, it should just save them as it's recording. Pressing OK stops or starts it from recording. If it starts recording automatically when you turn it on (which is what u want) then pressing OK will stop it from recording. (the boot video option it was makes it auto start recording when its turned on).
sorry, maybe you have already answered this, the thing is I did a fast forward on your video, so I might have missed it... my question is about the mirror function itself - can you really see through the dark screen as good as if you're looking through the usual mirror? what about the day/night feature the usual rearview mirrors have, does this camera have that as well?

Not sure what day/night function you mean, my normal mirror doesn't change. The dash cam mirror is a little darker, especially at night, but I barely notice it anymore.

Ahh, yeah thats why its darker. If you angled it up like that with the camera your camera would be filming the sky. Seems I answered the exact thing u was wanting to know in the video then haha. Well, hope it helped! :D

Yeah the G sensor needs to be switched on, either low, medium or high. This makes protected files while te car is turned on, like while you are driving, like if you have a crash, or go over a bump or hole too hard. It wont make the screen turn on, it should just protect the files and put a lock symbol on them.
The option that makes the screen turn on when the car is turned off, like where I dumped on my window is the Parking Guard option. But this is for when the camera is turned off, so if yours is wired live all the time then it wont power up because it is already turned on and recording.
It should tho still create a locked file if the G sensor is switched on but the screen will remain turned off, try setting it to medium or even high. (I have mine set low because it makes them with every little bump if not).
