walterlv01 Those two series from 94 and 95 are some of the best ever. I was the black sheep my brothers liked Jordan and I always stuck with Barkley even in Philadelphia. I would have loved to see a Bulls Rockets finals or Barkley getting another shot at Jordan. I haven’t watched a full nba game in years but I still watch the 90s playoffs and regular season.
Born in 1985 I'm so glad to watch this NBA. The stars, loud crowd arenas, NBC and CBS TV presentations, the hand checking, the defensive prowess, the centers dominating the block, the small market teams has a superstar and was competitive in the playoffs and last but not LEAST the GOAT took flight.
Hakeem's statline was absurd tho, over 22 playoff games he willed that team behind 33 PPG 10.3 RPG 4.5 APG 1.2 SPG AND 2.8 BPG on 53.3% shooting. Only Lebron and Jordan come close to that level of total dominance. The Rockets had to face the top 3 seeds in the West (Suns, Jazz, Spurs) and upset them all. Plus Hakeem is the main reason they swept Shaq. Greatest playoff run of all time. No other 6 seed will ever do better with so little.
It was actually Maxwell faking a knee injury that got the Rockets out of the 1st round, it allowed Drexler to handle the ball more those 2 weren't a good fit together.
Chris M I totally remember that, and great point. Was this the same season Maxwell punched the fan in Portland? He was miserable that year post Drexler trade.
@@philliphamilton4516 Yeah it was, I think the Rockets management initially were gonna trade him but after that incident they thought it wouldn't have been a good idea to have him play there and gave up Thorpe for Drexler inside. That stretch where Hakeem hit 5 straight shots out of the post in the last 3 minutes was just coldblooded. Then the Suns started double teaming him tho...
Matt the Backwards One , yep and the coach kept Danny Shayes on him like an idiot when you had better defenders on the bench... Hakeem was having bar b q chicken all night!!!!!
Danny Schayes had a nightmare job in this game, absolutely no chance. Performances like this were why Bob Costas titled Hakeem the new greatest basketball player in the world, it would be short lived, but at this time Hakeem was too good for anybody to stop.

Suns lost to the NBA champs 3 seasons in a row. Greatest franchise to never win a tile. 4th highest winning percentage in NBA history. Just not enough luck to get that elusive title.
@Yuri Orloff I agree with you. In my opinion, the Phoenix Suns had the overall better roster than Houston. But, Houston had the best player in the league with Hakeem Olajuwon who could take over and dominate games just like you mentioned. That's a great comfort zone for a team to have, when trying to win NBA titles. Phoenix didn't have that luxury and it showed in this series. Houston also had Clyde Drexler who could take over games in stretches as well.
@Yuri Orloff Barkley was the 2nd best player in the league in 1993. He won the MVP (deservedly so). It was his year to win but he didn't get it done. Should've been him shooting instead of Dan Majerle in Gm 6 up two against the Bulls.
Me and Meth The Legendary Roots Crew Tang Taggart The 94 Rockets were better than the Suns. But Phoenix had the better chance of beating the 95 Rockets
Damn, Snapper Jones really foreshadowed the game at the beginning, talking about how someone other than the big stars would have to hit the winning shot.
10:05 Kevin Johnson, 3-pointer! Great of a shooter as he was, he surprisingly didn't shoot many 3s, until later in his career. What he took, he made, though. Believe me, I'm a Sonics and Blazers fan, and saw KJ hit clutch 3s in playoff games against my two teams.
Kevin Johnson had a phenomenal game but he choked at the freethrow line during crunch time. He went 22 for 22 at the freethrow line but missed his 23rd and last freethrow to take a 1 point lead with 20 seconds left in the game. I still am and will forever be a diehard Phoenix Suns fan but KJ has to make that last freethrow to take the lead, especially if you made 22 straight free throws prior to bricking that last one. Danny Ainge made all of his freethrow at crunch time and so did Clyde Drexler. Again, phenomenal game from KJ but he made 22 straight freethrows only to brick his very last one that would of have us the lead. PRESSURE BUST PIPES! 😢
21:32 21 in a row actually. And I don't think we can say he choked. For a guy to hit that many consecutive free throws before missing is highly abnormal unless you're a career 90%+ foul shooter. KJ was 81% from the line line in the postseason and playoffs. So he usually was going to make 8 out of every 10 free throws. He got on a hot streak from the line, but he was due to miss one at some point. It just sucks that the first miss came on his last attempt in a tie game. But it wasn't a choke. Especially, considering he was the only one keeping the Suns in the game in fourth quarter.
Rockets didn't come back from 3-1 deficit in '94. They had the homecourt advantage in that series against the Suns but lost the first 2 games at home, only to win games 3 and 4 in Phoenix to tie the series. After winning game 5 again to go up 3-2, they lost game 6 in Phoenix and finished off the Suns at home in game 7.
***** They were the 6th seed in the West impressive. I also agree with the heart and toughness comment. However the pressure was brought on by their own losses early in playoff rounds.

that's if they beaten San Antonio they would've had to go through the Spurs first, it was David Robinson's MVP year.. the Magic knocked Jordan out making it easy for the Western teams to win a championship
Rockets went on to win the championship not having a rebounding PF, that's why I don't want to hear any slander about how they had to avoid a certain team to win, the fact they won with that kind of disadvantage in the first place is enough proof they earned it.
The reason the Bulls lost to the Magic was because they didn't have a PF, not because of MJ's alleged rust. If Popovich doesn't hand them Rodman that offseason, they would've struggled to win the title in 1996. There's no way they beat the 64-win Sonics.
@@doughbafett Yeah I know, the Bulls played the Hornets first who were a 50 win team and had hca too. The difference was that Hornets team didn't have the size the Magic did.
It will. Everything runs in circles. Eventually a team is gonna come and win big playing inside heavy ball, dominating the paint, rebounds etc and the rest of the league will start imitating that.
It's makes my eyes bleed, and why I don't really watch the NBA anymore. All these one-and-done players today just want to shoot threes. And it makes the offense so predictable. A guy will just hold the ball, let the shot clock run down, and then jack up a three. Or everyone will just stand out at the perimeter and just pass the ball around to shoot a three, even when there's a clear path to the basket. Everybody thinks they can shoot threes like the Steph and Klay, and they can't. And it's to a point where it's no longer about quality, but about quantity. The more three-pointers you take, the more you make, even if that means jacking up over 40 threes in a game.
What's funny is that Danny Ainge left Elie open in the corner by double teaming the ball handler-just like he left Paxson open for the shot in '93. Check the tape.
Just terrible defense altogether on this possession. Why the hell would you try to trap in a tie game? Houston has the ball for the last shot, so just play straight man-to-man defense and force a difficult shot to get to OT.
greatest postseason run bye any team ever!! Drexler actually got the rockets out of that 1st round too against jazz,... drexler and hakeem win a championship together" they should of got one in college too.. slamma jamma...
These teams were so evenly matched, I think Phoenix just needed one more horsepower. Chuck was starting to slow down the in 94 and 95, but still very good, Phoenix just needed someone just a little better in the middle.
What is the music played in the sequence of Mario Elie's "Kiss of Death" shot plus these time periods in the video: 7:22-7:35, 11:42-11:56, 16:08-16:19, 17:46-17:52, 18:57-19:06? My first guess was the theme for "The Oprah Winfrey Show" from 1989-1993. I know it's not.
Unfortunately for him sexual assault allegations have him blacklisted forever. Should be in the Hall based on his career. But also unfortunately he was too injury prone.
Ahhh, the lost art FOULING the player before they get off a 3 pointer so they wont tie the game. Surprised teams dont do this anymore, and Ive seen many a team lose in overtime after letting the opposing team get off a 3 to tie late.
+Riqsuav1 That can be effective, but it's also a bit risky. For one, their could have been a case made for continuation on the Ainge foul, and *BOTH* Majerle and Ainge could have definitely gotten off their shots as soon as they caught the ball, a step earlier, in order to fool the defender into fouling them. Watching this live, I could tell that at least Ainge was thinking about that, but he just couldn't quite do it. He should have jumped in the air, and if the defender was only 'faking' a foul, just shot the ball anyway or tried to pass it to someone else. Ainge was a very smart athlete; it probably came from his days as a Baseball player, as that is a 'thinking man's game.' You could tell that he was trying to miss the second free throw intentionally to give Barkley or himself a chance at a rebound, but as luck would have it, he banked it in! Actually, I think that rule changes need to be put in place in order to prevent this type of thing (intentional fouling when ahead by 3), as well as the intentional fouling off the ball when behind ('Hack-a-Shaq'). Here's what I came up with: 1. Go ahead and start calling 'the letter of the law'... in other words, if there's an 'intentional foul' (that's not committed in a genuine attempt for a steal or making a play on the ball), then it should be one foul shot + possession. 2. Stop changing the rules above or under two minutes left--ANY foul 'off the ball' should be the same; foul shot(s) + possession, however much time is left. 3. I had toyed with the ideas of an 'advantage clause' or a team having the option of in-bounding the ball rather than going to the foul line, and if the same player is fouled again on the next play afterwards it's a technical foul, or even drastic measures like making ALL fouls 'shooting fouls', but I don't think those are strictly necessary. However, I *DON'T* particularly like the idea of a team benefiting from fouling, and I do think that the rules ought to be changed to prevent that, even if I'm not holding my breath for it. I do think that the Competition Committee will be looking at ways to end 'Hack-a-Shaq' type fouls, and hopefully that can end the free-throw borefest that the last few minutes of NBA games is for many fans.
Id STILL take my chances fouling. U can mention to the ref that u plan on fouling as soon as they get the ball. that way they can be looking for it. I wanna make its as difficult as possible for them to tie the game. Especially if they gotta go the length of the court. Now i agree if they get the rock at half court, that is more risky. But if they have to go the length, im fouling
Elrique Suave Sure, but if I was on the team that was behind, I would tell the referees before the play that I'm going to be shooting as soon as I catch the ball, because there's nothing really to lose for me, either. If I do happen to get fouled intentionally and throw a shot up just after, there's probably a greater chance of me getting a continuation call that way, since I had just told the refs, or else I can at the very least get myself and my coach thrown out for arguing afterwards and start a bench-clearing brawl at the end of the game, in any case. Fun stuff. Seriously, though, this is why something like the rule changes I mentioned earlier need to go in effect (or actually, if they just started calling things more strictly by the letter of the law, it might be enough). Just like in soccer (or hockey, with delayed penalties, or even baseball, with the infield fly rule), I don't think that teams should *ever* benefit from *intentional* fouls!
Ok whatever bro, Im all about making it as difficult as possible for the team to tie the game. Worse case scenario id rather them earn the 3 points from the stripe if it comes down to that. And the act of shooting can be subjective depending on the ref. Houston was SMART at the end of this game!!! That could be a difference of winning a title and not.
Yeah, Phoenix should have won this series in 5, but Charles Barkley and co. choked it away at home in a game that went into overtime. Charles was only 1/6 on free throws that game! I can't find ever find it on RUclips, though. Ironically, Charles and KJ and the Suns remind me of KD and Russell and the Thunder this year, in how they both squandered 3-1 leads.
damn i didnt know about this game ..hakeem had a big 4th quarter but if it wasn't for that third quarter the rockets would have been eliminated..drexler kinda saved his ass..not to mention the final shot..still he is my favourite center
This is when b-ball was Theater, now it's just soft trash and what hurts the most is I use to love NBA more then anything but the game has gotten soft, superstars don't want to beat each other they want "SUPERTEAMS" and now we have fixed NBA Finals…..Hey NBA, you see the 80's 90's and early 2000's….yea, get back to that cause I DON'T Love This Game, the NBA….. It's Fantasticly Crappy
+Kenny Serrano Then that means Phoenix did it Charles Barkley vs. Robinson in the western conference finals but I really wished when Robert threw to Ellie I wished he missed "out of bounds ball belongs to Phoenix"
Curtis Donihoo How about his teammates give Kevin Johnson some help? Kevin Johnson scored 46 points. So, his trash talk was vindicated by his individual performance. Dan Majerle scored only 6 points and Barkley was a no show in the 4th quarter. Those are the reasons they lost this game, not because of the missed free throw by Kevin Johnson. To be honest, this series shouldn't have gone to a Game 7.
out of the Houston Rockets matchups; This was the worst defeat to them. The 1994 defeat against the rockets I can easily accept defeat because Rockets were too good, and dominated (That maxwell game in game 3...Man, that was a different breed). And Rockets knew they had it from there. 1995 tho, this was the last chance in that decade for Suns to go for it all, (While of course, needing to get past the 1 seeded Spurs and 1 seeded Magic). They had a very good solid squad that year and that playoffs, but for us to lose after having a 3-1 lead...I'm definitely in shame. But Rockets, proved a lot of ppl wrong that year, And I think this was the greatest most difficult postseason run in NBA history to me, looking back at it now.
He would have had the Rockets drafted Drexler with their third pick in 1983 versus Rodney McCray! Damn Bill Fitch. Also supposedly Portland was willing to give up Drexler and their 2nd pick in 1984 for Sampson which could have possibly meant Olajuwon, Drexler and Jordan on the same team.
Can we talk about Dan Marjele that guy was so good in the regular season with Danny Manning they both had good chemistry before he got injured but in the second round his shooting wasn't good enough.
That Suns team was considered one of the best offensive teams in the league. Ok, they were no match for the Bulls in 93 but in 94 and 95 during the Rockets 2 year dominance, they were the only team who gave Hakeem and the Rockets real problems and within an inch of a beating of their lives despite losing to them in the WCSF twice in 7 games.
Don't ever underestimate the heart of champion.

I miss 90s basketball when offence was properly structured.. now its all ISO run up and shoot the 3.. I hope it returns back to this style..
I remember this game. The Suns' interior d was atrocious in this game. It's what cost them the game.
Suns always knew how to lose at home in the playoffs when it mattered most.
Drexler was the KD of that time, no way they win a title that year without him.
That move by Hakeem at 6:30 on the assist/pass for two points!!
Nice to see ainge and elie at the end shaking hands after what happened the year before
People sleep on Kevin Johnson he was a great player
Unfortunately for him sexual assault allegations have him blacklisted forever. Should be in the Hall based on his career.
But also unfortunately he was too injury prone.
The Rockets beat two #1 seeds, a #2 seed, and a #3.
Teams with 62 wins-- 60 wins-- 59 wins-- 57 wins.
This will probably never happen again
Kevin Johnson had to go out like a beast on akeem with the dunk n his face
Here's what I came up with:
Kevin Johnson was on fire and his team but the Rockets toast the Sun from below.
He choked. Fouled cassel and missed a clutch ft....
damn i didnt know about this game ..hakeem had a big 4th quarter but if it wasn't for that third quarter the rockets would have been eliminated..drexler kinda saved his ass..not to mention the final shot..still he is my favourite center
Shut yo old ass up, u don't miss 90s ball u miss being young
marquanmr what? No we miss 90s ball it was so much better now it’s a flop fest three point contesr
You talking my type of shit brotha! keep it one hundred
@@marquanmr I am young, but that doesn't mean I can't miss quality so shut yo dumb ass up
2:42 Dan Schayes: Defensive Rebounding: B. Position rebounder.
I hope GSW will be like old era to comeback 3-1 become 4-3
Suns had Rockets down in back to back year's and couldn't close up 3-1 in 94 and I believe up 2-0 in 95
They had a 3-1 lead in this series.
Suns were up 2-0 heading home in 94. And they were up 3-1 in 95.
just came to my mind, i alway thought no one could guard prime charles but could olajuwon be effective against him?
4:20 OK CLYDE!! 😳
In This game it shows how Important the missed Free Throw by KJ after Nearly a Perfect Attempt of 21/22...
1984 classmates of Charles Barkley did Chuck bold three years straight Micheal Jordan 93 n akeem back to back 94-95
6:20 I did NOT know, that Dan Schayes could still dunk, in 1994-95! (He was 36 at that time)
omg Imagine if that last shot went in lol
+Kenny Serrano Then that means Phoenix did it Charles Barkley vs. Robinson in the western conference finals but I really wished when Robert threw to Ellie I wished he missed "out of bounds ball belongs to Phoenix"
+ Tyler Riley - yeah Elie said the harder thing to do was catch the pass. He said he knew it was good the moment it left his hands.
That was Danny Ainge's last shot in the NBA
Love how kj talked all that shit then chokes on the free throw!
Curtis Donihoo
How about his teammates give Kevin Johnson some help? Kevin Johnson scored 46 points. So, his trash talk was vindicated by his individual performance. Dan Majerle scored only 6 points and Barkley was a no show in the 4th quarter. Those are the reasons they lost this game, not because of the missed free throw by Kevin Johnson. To be honest, this series shouldn't have gone to a Game 7.
21 out 22 ain't especially in a game 7 against the champ
Mr. Trotter he did a good job but in the end choked which made it worth it! When it counted most he couldn’t deliver! Go rockets
The kiss of death
out of the Houston Rockets matchups; This was the worst defeat to them.
Kiss of death 💀
Wish drexler could of been pair with hakeem earlier in his career
He would have had the Rockets drafted Drexler with their third pick in 1983 versus Rodney McCray! Damn Bill Fitch. Also supposedly Portland was willing to give up Drexler and their 2nd pick in 1984 for Sampson which could have possibly meant Olajuwon, Drexler and Jordan on the same team.
Horry was so close to a backcourt on that elie play
Can booker, ayrton, cp3, change history?

That foul on johnson at the end hortible call
The forgotten Hakeem vs Kevin Johnson Duel in the 4th Quarter
Can we talk about Dan Marjele that guy was so good in the regular season with Danny Manning they both had good chemistry before he got injured but in the second round his shooting wasn't good enough.
That Suns team was considered one of the best offensive teams in the league. Ok, they were no match for the Bulls in 93 but in 94 and 95 during the Rockets 2 year dominance, they were the only team who gave Hakeem and the Rockets real problems and within an inch of a beating of their lives despite losing to them in the WCSF twice in 7 games.
Bill Walton @ 3:40. LOL!!!
Who's here after seeing 👀The Suns winning the 2021 NBA Championship.
16:19 Walton was the pioneer of troll behavior. Always with the unnecessary jabs at MJ/Bulls even when it’s unrelated to anything.
Damn Clyde was a fucking beast
6:30 Ya gonna ignore the fact that olajuwon is 7'0
He was also #10 all time in steals at this point in his career. 7 years before he retired
Yea man DR34M was too smoove man..goat 2 way player..him and MJ of course..that I've seen play at least
He is 6'10. I wish the NBA listed him as 6'10. He's not even close to 7'0.
@@hectorlopez1069 Dude he is 7'0 with shoes. Plus, that point don't change the facts.

If Jordan was still playing those 2 years and never left he be extended his winning streak to 5 and to 7 .....🤙
He and Chicago got dumped out 2 days before this game.
If 'IF' was a fifth...... We would all be DRUNK.
