OMG!!!!! I love it!!! I flew 6 thousand miles to have it again...one of the most delicious street foods in the world!! I don't care if it is Romanian, Czech,Slovak Hungarian or from Venus but you must try it before judging it! I will soon fly back to SK again to be able to enjoy it...
Its about a cake c'mon. Nobody told it does not have any connection to Hungarians. Just let each nation modify the cake to their taste. We shall not rage, we shall not hate them, cuz they do this with our precious cake. We shall be happy, because they love it also, and none of them mention this as their fully own cake. Just show these ppl some respect, show that once we were a great nation, and thank them for loving our cake. Greetings from a sekler, Transylvania. ( We can speak on another language, We can write on it also, but we will always cry, and dream in Hungarian )
Botond Simon Totally agree👍👍👍👍👍 My first encounter with this delicious cake happened on 29.11.2015 in Budapest, our first stop of a one week long Central Europe tour, with its "seducing" sweet & spicy flavor. I also saw it being sold under different names in Bratislava, Vienna, Prague and even in Dresden. But my tasting experience happened on 09.04.2016, during a daily visit to Bran (from a kiosk just in front of the Bran Castle) as a part of a 3 day long tour of Romania. So it is possible for me to say that I got the chance of tasting this delicious cake -more or less- in its "place of birth". Regardless of its name, its actually delicious in taste and admirable by everyone who is fond of pastry/bakery products. It is well-worth to buy and consume it while its warm & fresh👍👍👍👍👍😀.

Skalický trdelník was registered in December 2007 as PGI (protected geographical indication) in the European Union.[2] The registration application with the detailed description of the product was published in April 2007 in the Official Journal of the European Union.[3]
That´s the same like many people say that Medovnik is tradinionaly from Russia, some of them say from Armenia, czech people say it is from Czech too, cause we have patent ... the same.. countries are fighting all the time.. it is just delicious.. doesn´t matter from where, cause there are many dishes which are the same from in over the world - just always with different preparantion and taste too
Érdekes hogy ti a székelyeket lenézitek és utáljátok de ha menő az ételeik már egyből Románok! Bár valahol megértem a hozzá állásotokat hiszen nektek semmi híres élelmiszeretek nincs ami kimondottan Román!
this is originaly sekler(szekely)kurtos kalacs(chimney cake) and it is understandable that so many want to present it like their own(czech, slovak or especially romanians)because it is sooooo gooooood and tasty and very profitable because of its symplicity.... I just wanted to clear this..😆
Kürtőskalács, we "learned" them, they should call it by the proper name and not reinvent the wheel. The székely aka seklers, a Hungarian tribe in Transylvania invented it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%BCrt%C5%91skal%C3%A1cs
How can it be Czech, or traditional Slovakian when even they admit, it is Hungarian? IT IS HUNGARIAN. Period. In all Transylvanian Hungarian villages people have been baking it for centuries, but it made it to one town in Slovakia and it makes it Slovakian? It's like we would say Pizza is a traditional American food, because they have been eating it for a 100 years and it's recipe was modified a little bit, even though it came from Naples, Italy. No, Pizza is Italian, no matter how you call it or modify a recipe here or there. KÜRTŐS KALÁCS (chimney cake) is Hungarian, no matter how you modified it's recipe in your village a little bit, and call it on your own language. What will be the next you claim Slovakian or Czech, the Lángos? the Gulash? just because you rename it and change the spicing these are still forever Hungarian food. Sorry but the 2007 PGI registration is ridiculous, and the comittee who decided about that didn't have the information. It's like we Hungarians would register the slovakian strapachka as a Hungarian food, because we too have been eating it for 200 years and have our own recipe of it, with paprika.
If you want to go that far, why do Hungarians then consider pogacsa, nokedli, bejgli and töltött kaposzta as traditionally Hungarian? Pogača has its origins among the Southern Slavs, nokedli is known as Spätzle in Germany and Switzerland and töltött kaposzta and bejgli are eaten in literally every single Slavic country under different names (Sarma, Gołabki, Голубцы and Makovnjača, Makowiec, Makovy Zavin, Булочки с маком)
Genetic studies showed that szekelys share some genetic traits with modern - hungarians however their origin is different: szekelys migrated from Urals while modern Hungarians from East Asia. Evidence show that although both Hungarians and szekelys have northern genetic traits, they migrated from different location, as shown by striking differences in some haplotypes. Szekelys and Hungarians are different people with different origins. Szekelys were settled in Transylvania long time before the arrival of Hungarians and they were hungarized by the arriving Hungarian hordes.
Nobody invented the nuclear fusion reactor yet, but yes, Hungarians invented the nuclear fusion bomb (the Hydrogen-bomb) Edward Teller phisicist, also John von Neumann mathematician (and father of computer) :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_weapon en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Teller You would be surprised how many things Hungarians invented.
It's from Brazil! Brazilian food that was created in a brazilian village called Porto Alegre. Then it was exported by the portuguese to other countries in Europe, specially Hungary.
Trdelnik may not be original Czech, but you can’t deny that it’s actually soo good! 😋
