    Paid about $1650 with the brace for the PTR back in 2019. Had not had 1 malfunction in a couple of thousand rounds. If you don’t like the factory safety, try the Magpul, it’s a bit more ergonomic, it’s ambi and has an overall better feel. I also sport the Magpul hand guard which comes with a built in hand stop.

      I am still very happy with the PTR. I think it is a good product, especially for the price. I have not had any issues with mine. The differences that I pointed out are very, very small, but they are still differences. Drastic price difference though lol

    I have the ptr ct and love it eats every 9 mm i feed it and runs flawlessly . also love the Pic rail welded on no need to mess with a claw mount . and only paid $ 1600

    I went with the ptr simply because of the welded on rail. I wont have to rack my knuckles across the clamp on when charging the weapon, also your right the mlok handguard is a nice addition only thing is I wish ptr was not written so big. Thanks for this review I enjoyed watching.

      The rail is a HUGE improvement in my opinion. I can't believe that HK doesn't update to have one given the fact that everyone uses an optic these days.

    I've had to send my PTR back twice. One because the cocking tube was welded wrong.

  • @rondobrondo

    At the current price of the clones vs. the actual HK, I think the HK is a no brainer. Even against the cheapest clone, the MKE imported by century arms, that's only an $1100 difference, and you get a much higher quality weapon with much better customer service. I've only talked to HK customer support a couple of times in my whole life, but they've been some of the best customer service I've ever gotten. Even better than how Apple customer service was back in the day when Steve Jobs was still around

    Century is only the importer of the Turkish made MKE (Ap5) who uses H&K machinery under H&K license. I paid $1225 with brace.

    Cannot wait to get my ptr 9ct. I’ll be going with the Franklin arms binary trigger so the worst parts, the trigger and safety are going to be replaced. Have a wolfman in suppressor jail going on it. Probably going trijicon MRO HD tall mount. Some type of flashlight. Sooner or later SBR-ing it just for a vertical grip. I prefer the collapsibility of the pistol braces to a fixed stock.

    I enjoyed that production, ex military veteran from the UK and as you will be aware we no longer allowed firearms, so sites like yours help, Ask the wife if she fancies moving to the USA, unfortunately i need to come up with something more than weapons. thank you and keep up the good work..

    My local gun store has two Century Arms AP5Ks. Those guns have a safety lever that requires beating it with a hammer to get it to move. If that ONE moving part acts like it is a welded part, there is NO way I would consider buying one of their guns.

    • @charleshaynie6371

      It's softer than the HK safety. It's the nicest one. So please keep moving, we don't want you to have one either

    I would not make the mistake I made buying a zenith firearms zf5. The quality was bad. Had to send it back because they forgot to drill a hole in the front sight post. Came lose. Customer service sucks. They send it directly to them and don’t tell ups it’s a firearm. Then instead of sending it back to me, they send it back to my ffl, causing me to half to go through 2 background checks. Buyer beware. Oh ya. The welds are really small unlike the hk with really big welds. My bet eventually they might fail

    With the PTR-9ct's oem m-lok handguard, the properly notched 5.5" in. pic rail tri-set from Ebay or aluminums from MDT, a light Dremel, and some easy-peasy touch up paint, and you've got yourself an actually much better fitting as well as better looking DYI Knight's Armament MP5 RAS for a fraction of the cost, and you won't need the also hi-priced sight mount adapter from the KAC system either. I'm sure you'll be able to see why. And get the USGI P&S rail covers too. You'll also see why. The SP5 is nice, but you can go ahead and hang on to that one. Semper Fi, Mac.....

    • @ar-15podcast15
      @ar-15podcast15  2 года назад

      That is very creative. I looked that stuff up and it appears to be a popular option as well. I do like the weight reduction of the MLOK in addition to less areas to snag stuff on (it's very minimal though, I know), but that is a great suggestion. Thanks for pointing that out!

    Also get that SP5 SBRed. Braces are moronic. Especially on that gun. Stick to AR15s. You don’t know what you’re talking about. That SP5 will run forever. There’s a MP5 in the Smithsonian with 400,000 rounds thru it. Good luck pushing 5k out of a PTR before it craps the bed.

    The Century AP5 is far superior than the PTR SP5. Its better than the HK version imo. Basically used the same machine toolings that HK used but now with new finishes and metal.

    • @SigAXG320
      @SigAXG320 Год назад

      what makes you say it's far superior. I'm cross shopping the AP5 by Century and the PTR-9, along with the Zenith ZF5--> and I've heard nightmare stories about Century-- customer service and even manufacturing. And the warranty is only for a year. I'm curious why you think the AP5 is so much better? This will be my primary home defense gun with a suppressor, light, and optic.

    • @charleshaynie6371
      @charleshaynie6371 Год назад +2

      I base them against the HK. And when you look and feel them Century wins. And when you convert to FA who wins again, Century. I would take century over HK bc the finishes and metal used is better and they've smoothed out what HK never did. PTR looks like airsoft imo and Zenith is not it. People are biased bc it's US made. Lol what's that mean? Guys work for 6 months and pop them out? Nah I'll take Turkish blend that guys been doin that job for 30 years. Oh and Century run the best in FA

    • @SigAXG320
      @SigAXG320 Год назад

      @@charleshaynie6371
      That’s interesting. Just to be clear, FA = full auto ? I have no desire to make that conversion - Fyi. I want the most reliable suppressed 9mm MP5 clone that I can beat up and will run flawlessly.
      I was tempted to spend the $3k on the SP5 but I don’t see the point- especially since I’ll have to spend hundreds more to get a rail for an optic and light.
      Zenith ZF5 is $2400 on their website so that isn’t that much cheaper. The AP5 by MEK is anywhere from $1000-1300 and
      I thought it was made in Turkey and distributed by century arms for the US, but now it seems century arms is making them here ? Do I have that wrong ? And why do so many people have such terrible stories about Century arms ?

    • @charleshaynie6371
      @charleshaynie6371 Год назад +2

      @salmalad752 yes Full auto. That's the standard I base off all guns. If they can run flawless in FA you won't have a problem with whatever you plan. I've never heard stories, stories are and customer service are for people who don't know left from right. Any good Smith can work on any platform. I'm just saying go with Century. Mines gorgeous

    • @SigAXG320
      @SigAXG320 Год назад +1

      @@charleshaynie6371
      One more thing: would you recommend going with the AP5 over the AP5p since it’s easier to suppress (no changing out of locking parts)? Also, do the HK mags feeds better than the MEK mags?
      I’m looking at prices now and there aren’t any online for less than $1700-1800. They were $1000-1300 not that long ago !

  • @sirrisdesign4
    @sirrisdesign4 2 года назад +5

    The PTR is trash. You don’t know what you’re talking about saying welds don’t matter. They sure do. I’ve seen trunnions shift in them from full auto fire because they do not weld anything up correctly on the gun. My original one was a rattling mess, terrible tolerances. If you’re going to go with a “cost effective” model, buy MKE / Century Arms. Even cheaper than the PTR & moderately more reliable. But at the very least, the stuff is welded up correctly.
