I love that one guy who shouts when she asks if people like The Kinks. He is WAAAAAAAYYYYY to excited about The Kinks... and I want to meet him and be his friend.
I can't believe she did it again! One of my favourite songs ever, Dave Davies' ultimate ballad, and The Kinks's for the matter, in such a beautiful way. I'm not a huge fan of her own compositions, but when she picks a gem from the past, she knows exactly what to do.
When I listen to this song I can't stop, so I listen to all the versions - including this one, of course. Beautiful songs like this one are not for everybody, so this is a perfect song for Norah. And she kept the drums at the end, yay!!!
Wonderful cover. It's a tribute for all the critics out there. She has a wonderful soulful interpretation and I am sure Dave was honored. It's fabulous to know that someone so popular actually loves and listened to a Kinks song that is quite obscure. GREAT!
I remember first hearing the Kinks version and almost being moved to tears, especially the 'strangers on this road we are on' line. There was not almost after hearing this. Brilliant!
Been loving the Kinks my entire life -- so much so, they bring tears to my eyes! Love Norah Jones so much too. She does an amazing job on Dave's song here. An amazing song in itself.
Of course it's not the original, that's why it's a cover. She does an excellent job with it, respecting the feel of the original but adding her own touch. Lovely.
Excellent interpretation. Just the fact that she is doing this song is proof that she is a fan. That's enough in my book. All the haters need to realize that when you read the captions Kinks "cover" that that's what you're going to get. I bet you all hate live tracks too and only listen to studio cuts. "Till The End of The Day" live is fucking amazing and yet it sounds nothing like the "original"
it's a travesty that crowd didn't immediately erupt when she sang those first words. everybody ought to know this song by heart and they should've been singing along with her!
All this discussion about which is better shouldn't be the point. If you're a Nora Jones fan, you'll love it, a Kinks fan, you'd prefer them. She has her style, and they had theirs. Not better/worse, just different.
I don't mean to be Norah's spokeperson, but it seems like she only covers songs where she couldn't possibly sound like the original singer (this one, ACDC, Willie Nelson, Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Johnny Cash, etc.). There's almost a tacit understanding that "I'm not trying to sound like the original, I just love the song and want to pay homage to it." I usually love her cover, check out the original, and find the original is even better. But the original almost always is.
Agreed. This song was not meant to be sung by a voice like hers. Kinda funny how certain songs can be better when sung by people with less vocal talent. Call it the Janis Joplin effect.
Elitist is not an insult, even though you intended it to be. It's bad because it lacks all of the ethereal disattachment of the original. It's flat. It has no soul, it has been taken out of time and out of place. She doesn't feel the lyrics. You can't over-embellish a song so personal. Backing choir? Excuse me? Also her voice is like rusty saw.
I love that one guy who shouts when she asks if people like The Kinks.
He is WAAAAAAAYYYYY to excited about The Kinks... and I want to meet him and be his friend.
Kaycee Jarrard me too buddy.
I'm from argentine and i fucking love the Kinks and i want to be his friend too. He's surely the sameone who shouts OOooooooohhhhhh at the end.
And god save U.K's legendary rock bands!!
Kaycee Jarrard way excited she performed “strangers”.
Norah Jones and Lucius, the best two covers of this song. Just amazing.
any cover is a tribute to the legendary Kinks. Norah is fantastic. I like this one. God save the Kinks!
I am another huge Kinks fan... and this is a fantastic cover version of this Kinks song. Her voice is absolutely beautiful.
I can't believe she did it again! One of my favourite songs ever, Dave Davies' ultimate ballad, and The Kinks's for the matter, in such a beautiful way. I'm not a huge fan of her own compositions, but when she picks a gem from the past, she knows exactly what to do.
Totally love Norah, she is one of a kind. That said, please search "Strangers and Lucius" and hear another version of this song.
Brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. They caught something very special that day.
"Do you guys like The Kinks?" Who in their right mind doesn't like the The Kinks!
I love that she covers the songs , because she loves all songs and she really respects all artists she covers : )
When I listen to this song I can't stop, so I listen to all the versions - including this one, of course. Beautiful songs like this one are not for everybody, so this is a perfect song for Norah. And she kept the drums at the end, yay!!!
A few months ago I sent the link to this clip to Dave Davies on Facebook. He liked it and even shared it on his wall saying "Love this one.'
So cool!
Huge Kinks fan here...THIS VERSION IS AMAZING!!
Dave's exact words were "Love this version!"
Wonderful cover. It's a tribute for all the critics out there. She has a wonderful soulful interpretation and I am sure Dave was honored. It's fabulous to know that someone so popular actually loves and listened to a Kinks song that is quite obscure. GREAT!

Me too
The black pumas/lucius did a cover of Strangers that was featured during the Super Bowl.
Philly always loved The Kinks!
Love it... and I'm a fan of both. A beautiful cover.
This is such a great cover without bending the original in unorthodox way
Been loving the Kinks my entire life -- so much so, they bring tears to my eyes! Love Norah Jones so much too. She does an amazing job on Dave's song here. An amazing song in itself.
Awesome cover Nora! Thanks
Wye Oak also did a really nice cover of this on the old A.V. Club channel, it's
still up on YT.
Of course it's not the original, that's why it's a cover. She does an excellent job with it, respecting the feel of the original but adding her own touch. Lovely.
Well chosen ... well performed.
I've heard bad things about this cover but hearing it now it seems like she "gets it". Love it.
Fantastic......voice.... Thank you.......

‘If I feel tommorow like I feel today, we’ll take what we want and give the rest away’
This is the truth of life. We are not two, we are one.
This is an incredible cover. Love Norah
What a beautiful voice!
Holy shit that's a beautiful version 😯
it's a travesty that crowd didn't immediately erupt when she sang those first words. everybody ought to know this song by heart and they should've been singing along with her!
Beautiful
Norah: You guys like the kinks?
Guy with high pitched voice at 0:12 : YES!
God save The Kinks!!!
I heard Norah Jones cover Pink Floyd , Wish you here and I just can’t seem to find her cover anymore! Sad :/(

I like the cover by Bonfire John. Of course, I'm impartial because I cover it. !!
God save The Kinks, Vaudeville and Variety.

I feel this has adequate embellishment. However, spot on about the urgency.
Sounded like Dave Davies himself.
Agreed. This song was not meant to be sung by a voice like hers. Kinda funny how certain songs can be better when sung by people with less vocal talent. Call it the Janis Joplin effect.
Dave wrote this tune
It's kinda amazing Ray allowed it to be produced.
@emillkim13 I think she does a nice cover, though.
Join Mitchell lawnmower
Sorry. Ray owns it.
Dave owns it - Ray merely helped with the downpayments.
@@tardisbob2745 I meant the Kinks do it better...by a bisexual LOOOOONG shot...in spite of Norah's sexy soundings....
I agree. But it’s not a bad effort and flattering that she spotted it and did the cover.
@ViolentMonopoly
That's sad
The original by the Kinks is so much better. Less embellished and more urgent.
this is so much better than the original.
I actually prefer this to the original.

Comparing live and studio. Just... Don't do this.
she has a great voice but she doesn't do this song any justice, its like she's trying to make it more upbeat and just ignoring the sadness and emotion

The Kinks version is way better
Have a horrible feeling this is going to be awful.
It's actually a decent cover. Hope after 5 years you've heard that.
You'd be wrong!
32 seconds I managed. Dreadful.
