The first family of gospel always ripp it up. The gospel of the 80's like the Hawkins Family, Commissioned, Phillip & Brenda Nicholis, and many more, will never be replaced with this commercialized gospel music of today.
I think Walter Hawkins was/is a musical genius. It's 2021...and, I can't compare him to anyone. His music transcends time. He revealed the heart of David. He was/is a Mystro of music, but of the Gospel of Jesus CHRIST. WOW! What an amazing Man of God and an amazing singer/song writer. He could write a song to fit a person's voice to the T!
I remember when this album came out. I was 9 or 10 years old. This album gave me so much hope and this song taught me to cling to God. I was being sexually abused and just wanted the pain to stop. I played this album so much, sometimes in silence, just listening to the words. Didn't know they would be the catalyst to my unyielding faith in God.
What a blessing God gave us with the Hawkins family. Even so may years later Walter’s music is relevant to our present situation. Thank you Jesus for protection!
I've taken time to really listen to Shirley. She's not just singing this. She is pleading with people. The music is wonderful. The background vocals are rich. Yes, all of that is true. However, it's Shirley's ministering that makes the song so effective. Listen, if you never have, TRY CHRIST!
I was crazy about this song and Shirley Miller back in the day. I even posed with her for a photo, which l prize. She was very gracious. My college roommate and l could hear her at the end of TRY CHRIST "pleading". But that "pleading" lost its significance for me after the rumors were confirmed on her marriage to another woman. I would love to meet her again, but l could not concur with her alternate lifestyle, which the word of God expressly condemns (Romans 1 25-27). But my motto is to practice the Golden Rule in your treatment of others (Matthew 7:12).
@@MrCJ-qz9dl I don't disagree with you. So you'll know, the woman she married is Yvette Flunder, BISHOP Yvette Flunder (the soloist of Thank You and Specisl Gift). The Bible tells us that gifts and callings come without repentance. God used Shirley to effectively minister the song. Many were and are blessed and we will never know who or how many came to Christ because of this song. If Shirley dies and goes to hell, it's her own fault, especially since she knows the way of salvation.
@@kevinbouknight1308 Yes l know of "Bishop" Yvette Flunder very well. According to WIKIPEDIA she was ordained by Walter Hawkins. I fully believe that we should reach out to everyone, no matter the race or sexual orientation. How could we leave someone, for whom Christ died out in the cold, dark world? Jesus condoned the sinner but condemned the sin when He said, "Go and SIN no more" (John 8:11). For years l had heard rumors on the Hawkins clan, but decided to dismiss them simply because they were, as l thought, just rumors. But years later l see them confirmed. My belief, according to the Bible, is that God patiently allows situations to continue until the "cup of iniquity" is full (Genesis 15:16/Revelation 18:5-7). Then as we see careless gospel musicians fall sick of a terminal disease, they succumb, even after hundreds of prayers on their behalf. God will not be trifled with. Their dress, diet, and association with rock stars, bespeak that their style of living is for attraction, and not to lead society to the humble Man Jesus (Matthew 11:29). We are not to condemn, but we can judge "righteous judgment" (John 7:24) based on the word of God. I am ministered to more by a person's life than l am their music. Their overall deportment sends a louder message, for you can "know them by their fruit" (Matthew 7:16). We need to worship after "the due order" (1 Chronicles 15:13), something David painfully learned, and not always by our emotions and "praise" reprisals (see Romans 2:29). May God bless you today, brother.

I must say that I enjoyed Pastor Hezekiah Walker & LFCC version of the song better with the anointed voice of Evangelist Monique Walker leading, again it’s probably because I grew up with Pastor Hez & LFCC from their very first album until present. I also believe that it takes ABSOLUTELY NOTHING away from the Hawkins Family who we all can agree paved the way in Black gospel music history, the gospel music industry in general, and in the body of Christ for such choirs like Pastor Hez & LFCC to come along years later and bless with a remake recording of this song. I believe Pastor Walter, Edwin, Shirley Miller, and Lynette all would love and appreciate Pastor Hez & LFCC for doing such an anointed & amazing recording!
I don't see it on Joel Smith's credits. The 1982 album "I Feel Like Singing" is, but not this one (he sounds great on that one). It sure does sound like Verdine's style. With Philip, Maurice and the horns from the group, Tower Of Power there, it leads one to believe it could be him on at least some of the songs. I haven't seen any proof of who it is, though.
