Man I REALLY love these style vids. More of this!!
Thanks Andy!!
Maybe I have watched too many gear review/impression videos, but Mr Tubbs comes off as a truly humble and likable guy. Love the video sir.
I agree I want to take the man out for a beer and talk about gear :D
One of my favorite players and one of my favorite people. Love the video dude.
Thanks so much, Robert!! You're the best man!!
I watch all of your videos for the stunning playing and tone, but this one made me laugh out loud a couple of times. Love the informal style and the incredibly dry sense of humour, Shawn! Keep them coming!
They are all great strats no doubt. And I could add Kirn, K-Line, Lentz, DeTemple, Grosh, Riggio, MarioMartin, Anderson, Haar, D'Pergo, SVL, Buttarini and a few others. Players need to understand that Fenders are great but are also only a part of the great Strat equation!
Well said, sir!!
This is probably my favorite video you've done! All sound great, but that Tuttle really does sound warm. You said something very important to remember... It's not about how the guitar sounds by itself, but how it sounds in the track! Wise words! Many times I've been surprised by which pickup sounds the best with the band, where I would otherwise think it was too thin. Ultimately, everything has to carve out, and fit into its own frequency range to achieve a tone that stands by itself within a mix. Great video as always, and I especially dig the impromptu shenanigans. Humor makes us human, and relatable. Good stuff!
Any video where you explain how you think about products and process is always a winner!!!!!! Thanks
I played that Schecter at summer NAMM and I really liked it. Seriously considering picking one up.
The neck on the Schecter is so beautiful.
HAHAHA!!! Why are you YELLING! Shawn, I wish you did a "licks" breakdown of some of these videos. Love the licks! Oh...yeah...nice guitars too!
That Michael Tuttle is beautiful and sounds great. Hurricane Laura is blowing outside, hopefully we survive to play another day.
All sound great (and you as well). Tuttle & Suhr my faves .
This really helped my strat search considering you played almost the exact models I was thinking of! Thanks so much Shawn! \m/
Enjoying this format a lot. Plus that LSL sounded great!!
“Why am I yelling”- dear god that was hilarious. Great video. Thanks for the comparisons
very interesting as always. astonishing sense of ear too. GO SHAWN!
The Schecter bridge-pickup sounds really good
Very informative. So many choices now for great guitars.
You can ramble like this in every video and I will watch it! I love the new content. So cool! I really enjoyed seeing your different strats and hearing what you have to say about them. Thanks for another killer video!
I am surprised to say this since I really like Lollar pickups but the Tuttle pickups in the red strat sounded much nicer than the Lollars! More presence, spectrum, dimension and sparkle and chime. Great demo!
Suhr was the favorite for me!
Nathan Sousa - They are amazing. Made me put my 78 Vintage Strat = Up for Sale. I Love my Suhr with Lollar Dirty Blonde's. I can Die a Happy Man !!!
They all sound great of course. The Suhr and the Tuttle sound the best to me, but then I have a bunch of Suhrs so my ears are tuned to how they sound.
Nothing like a strat sound and its played by our legend himself.....Shawn Tubbs!!!
Love from India 🤘 🇮🇳🐅
Shawn just curious are the landau pickups on the Suhr, ML or the FL? And which pickups are the humbucker?? Thanks!
ML singles. SSV in the bridge.
@@ShawnTubbs wow! Thanks so much for the reply back! Great tone as always and inspiring playing!
I love the casual format, Shawn. Awesome playing and discussion as always!
Great video Shawn, glad to see a non-scripted video, just you being you.
"So this is the first caught position...hehehe..." That killed me. I'm dead.
Shawn - do you run pretty low action on your guitars? Or do you have bear claw hands.
Shawn, awesome demo but I may have missed if you discussed how the LSL is wired? Is it a 5-way switch with volume/tone/tone? Any details are appreciated.
That Schecter sounds great and seems to inspire you. I feel better with a chunkier neck, but that's just me. Wonderful guitars, all of those: you get the best of them !
Great Video! I like that it was informal, but you still gave an insightful, honest opinion.
Not only do I love your playing, you’re also hilarious when you’re goofing around. More videos like this please!
what is your fave single coil bro , lollar blonde ?
Yeah for sure. I've been a Lollar fan for years.
@@ShawnTubbs i just order pribora pickups it hand wound from Russia, hope it sound good , some day i will try lollar.
Love your weird trying out guitars world Shawn buddy ! Fun, great guitars and really great chops man !!! .... is the case in the bathroom ! 😀
Hahaha, that case is stacked way high in the bathroom!! Thanks!!
I really like these laidback kinds of videos, Shawn. 👍
Excellent video, you are a phenomenal player. I have the same Roc n Soc drumming stool as yours except mine is in blue!
impossible to pick one
especially without playing them !
great video :)
Loved this man - so cool to let more of your personality shine through with this style of vid - great playing too!
You're a humble dude that plays his ass off, love your playing, best to you man!!
Nice representation of different tones.....great job Shawn.....
Thanks for this video Shawn. I watched your previous strat vs strat vid which helped me when I played/compared a Suhr vs LSL vs Music Man. I’m used to playing MM guitars so the Cutlass felt like home but the LSL fitted like a glove and the Suhr felt solid and suited to any style. They were all so well built and I could justify owning them all. As you say: nowadays all +$2k guitars are so well built. It’s a really difficult decision.
Hi Shawn,
I have my LsL single coil on order. I did put locking tuners and a two point trem on it. I am a little concerned about the Poly finish you have to have instead of the Nitro I wanted.
Great video!!!!! I really like gear comparisons, very useful and cool!
Really cool - love this honest format. (Not that the other demo vids are terrible in their slickness!!) Just.... different, but all good - just like the strats.
Damn! Now you got me wanting to look at strats... and not the cheap ones! Loved this video!
I think CNC has lifted the quality of guitars at all levels. The difference maybe being in where the technology is used and combined with hand craftsmanship. Thanks.
Footloose mr Tubbs. I can dig that. Carefully plug them in, hahaha! Man, those four strats are topdogs in their own way. I would take them all, including your hands. I could start a career.;-D
Love to see more footloose footage.
Good video, thanks. I went with a Suhr classic pro (SSH) based on availability, and price., but, I am a lefty.
Amazing playing and even better jokes! You're awesome, Shawn 👍
Impressed with the new Schecters. Nice video 🙂
Hey Shawn my first "real" guitar was a Tom Anderson grand am lam that I bought from Lab Sound in Garden Grove back in 1990. Around that time was when I first met you and the rest of the guys at Lab Sound. It was also the time you were a Mesa/Boogie product specialist. I still have one of your business cards. I love that guitar. Recently I purchased a Fender Custom Shop Tamo Ash Telecaster. It was a game changer for me. Whole different feel. I love that guitar play it everyday. I special ordered it from Sweetwater Music. It took a year to get it! I never played it until the day it arrived. I agree with you ever guitar I own has it's purpose they are like my children. LOL Thanks for doing this channel I'm learning a lot from you!
Yeah, that shop brings back a lot of memories for sure! Thanks so much for reaching out and saying hello!!
Thanks Shawn! Great guitars indeed , more vids like this please
... great video - THANKS! ... BUT: Why do you store your guitars hanging on a wall ?? ... I heard that this kind of storing IS NOT GOOD for the truss-rod - weight of the guitar (gravity) works against the little curve which truss-rod should bring to the neck ...
I haven't noticed any effect at all but that being said, if you take into consideration the amount of tension that is generally placed on the neck of an electric guitar (100 lbs) or so and then, take into consideration the weight of the average guitar body (3-10 Lbs) I wouldn't think it would somehow, hanging the guitar by the headstock, take relief out of or away from the neck.
Awesome playing!! Loved it.
LsL for the win! It’s just sweet and bitey at the same time! 🏆
Definitely Tuttle for lower gain stuff and the Suhr for more modern breakup
Oldest Video is 6 Month old...i was wondering why u didn't had 1million followers, now i know...
Awesome Videos! Keep em coming
Thanks so much for watching. I've been the most impressed with the Fender Road Worn guitars. I would hunt down a used one.
Enjoyed the informal format of the video Shawn, showing how you do things and why. Careful, you'll lose a limb with those bridge PU's ; )
Hi Shawn. What gauge strings do you like on strats and teles?
I stick to 10-46 D'addarrio NKXL for the most part. Thanks for watching!!
Hey Shawn! What's the string height for your strats??
I don't have an exact measurement because I just go by feel but I would say on average it's medium high.
@@ShawnTubbs OK! If you pass for ex. a pick like a dunlop Jazz III between the high E string unfretted and the 12th fret, what do you see? Does the pick lift up the string or it passes freely between the fret and the string? :) thanks!
Dude, you had me laughing out loud Lol! I really like the sound of those Lollars.
If I had to choose only One-Guitar and play a gig Covering: rock, motown, reggae & jazz . . . I'd choose an HSS Strat with some Great Pickups. So Versatile. Loved this Video. Preferred the tones on the 1st guitar and of course the Lollar Pickups.
Thanks ,Michael!! Yeah, I'd have to agree with you on that one. I've got my Suhr Classic SSH guitar and It's the one I reach for as the "does all". The only other guitar that I'll take off with is the DGT by PRS. That guitar is killer for the same thing. Thanks so much for watching and for chiming in!!
After two close shaves, I'm really glad you aren't losing limbs 🤞👍
Lovely playing, as always
Great video Shawn. What do you think about G&all guitars?
I've always thought G and L guitars were great! I haven't played one in a long time though. Thanks for watching!!
Impeccable tone as always! Which “dirt” box were you using? Thanks
Thanks!! I was using a Rockett Pedals Blue Note
@@ShawnTubbs Amazing Pedal. Still my Favorite for Low Gain Overdrive. So Warm & Natural.
Dude, your tone is always making me drool. soooo tasty....no matter through what gear you play you always sound like you. I´m inhaling everything you do lately and its really inspiring. and you always make me laugh because you don't take yourself too serious. Good job, mate. keep goin, greeting from Germany...
Wow! Thanks so much Chris!
Really Shawn.???
You had a 1963 strat as a kid ?
Very high standards from the beginning.
I have to say it again. Great sound starts from the hands of the player. You always sound great.
( specially on that DGT.....man i love that guitar.)
Inspiring playing on your videos.
Keep them coming.
Thanks so much! My dad bought me a 1963 strat from guitar center in 1983 for $1000.00. I wish I had not been so uneducated...I would have never sold it. I do love my DGT. It's the guitar that turned me on to PRS guitars. Thanks again!!!
@William Muhovich They were about 900-1000 when I was a kid.... Yep...Old as dirt!!! ;)
I though I was the only one that caught that too, wow.
Oh btw the Schecter is badass but shouldnt be exactly comparable to the others, it's a modern take on the old recipe. More aligned with those would be the Traditional Wembley, deliciously aged nitro beauty
Great stuff. I like this style of video! :)
Great video !!! Loved this type of content
Awesome Shawn! Great review and well said... There all excellent guitars just different, I agree 100% once you get into that 2 grand and over price range I would be shocked to see something that is not a great guitar just maybe not for everyone... or every style of music, I really like that Tuttle, Looks like he knows his s@%t when it comes to being a great Luthier! Thanks again for the great review bro! 🎸🎸👍
Thanks so much for watching!! Yes, Michael Tuttle is a great luthier!
Excellent playing
Candid Tubbs😀 keep doing what you do brother!
What happened to the gold LsL saticoy? Love the black LsL! Every time I watch you play that one on your demos I get the goosebumps man!
Firstly it was great meeting you at summer namm. Secondly i love those lollar dirty blondes I have them in my k-line Springfield.
I loved all these Strat's. And, your self deprecating humor. I find it hilarious.
For $349, the Squier Contemporary Strat HSS is a lot of guitar for little coin. In light of advances in the manufacturing process; what would you say separates a well-made budget guitar (not an oxymoron anymore) from a high-end custom guitar?
Russell Wiggins You didn’t ask me but I’ll give my two cents. I think it is a lot of things that add up. The attention to detail is usually better in more expensive instruments. Many times the electronics in the cheaper guitars are sub par. The pickups can be very hit and miss. The tuners often are not great. The nut is often plastic. Many small details that add up. BUT if you find a cheap/inexpensive guitar that feels and sounds good/resonates well, then you can swap parts and get it where you want it. Jack Pearson plays a Squire and he is regarded as one of the greatest guitarists out there. I believe Shawn has said this before and I whole heartedly agree, if it sounds and plays good, it is good.
You made me reach for my strat! ( great strat players always do! and then I realise, "Oh yeah, you need to be a pro strat wrangler to coax A1 tones from Leo's classic type S")
You sound great with everything !!
Anyway for me Tylers are the best strat type .
James Tyler builds amazing guitars!!
Tylers are the fattest thing on earth, super badass strat chubby tones!
That Schecter sounds great!!
This licks killing me .. I love this guy guitar style. Shawn you simply amazing ..
Hey I was wondering if you know a good set up guy in the Orange County, CA area. My Telecaster is in dire need of a setup!
You should try Joel Grant. Grant Guitars.
Thanks Shawn! Does he know you?
@@gitaaa7740 Yeah I haven't seen Joel in years but he worked on all my guitars when I lived in OC.
Shawn Tubbs Hey Shawn I figured out my issue with the high E sizzling. It was resting on the set screw of the saddle. It was touching the screw causing the weird “sizzling” noise. I just pulled up on the string at the bridge problem solved!
Shawn Tubbs I guess I didn’t tell you why I needed a setup on my Tele. My high E string making a weird sizzling sound when I played it open.
Take drink everytime Shawn adjusts glasses. 2 minutes later I'm drunk.
Love your videos Shawn, I m into putting my own guitars together today, MJT bodies, Musikraft/ Warmoth necks, etc.. for $ 1000 or less with high end components. You can put together a really good guitar ,anyway I have a set of Lollar dirty blondes in my 57 strat copy and they are fantastic, a had a set of Frnder 57/62 in originally and those are darn good vintage pickups for the prices
Of course, everything sounds awesome in your hands Shawn, but .... gotta say the Tuttle Strat was "special".
Shawn, you could make pretty much ANY guitar sound good! Your phrasing, feel & tone just fries my chicken...and my head. So, what dirt were you throwing at the guitars? Thanks man.
Thanks so much!! That pedal was a Rockett Pedals Blue Note.
Hi, Shawn!
Now, it would be nice with a Tele's to make a video comparation too.
I have Suhr, Xotic XSC-2, Strat59 Reissue for now and I am considering now to buy a good Tele!
God bless You!
Xotics are badass, loved those I've played! As Tele try a Schecter Vintage PT
@@taxo Xotic builds good stuff for sure!
Thanks so much for watching!! I've got some tele's to show for sure!!
I built me a Warmoth for about 1200. I used all top line hardware. Roasted swamp ash roasted maple with rosewood fb. Basically a tribute to Jeff Beck. What I found about strat tone is its mostly in the tone controls the volume knob resistance values and the pickups. your pickups can't be too hot or too cold. you're paying way too much for those high end guitars try putting some Lollars or other boutique pickup in an average strat and wire per original 50s or 60s wiring spec and you will have proper strat tone.
Nice video. Knowing the stats of a guitar is preferred..
Thanks!
I just bought a Mexican strat HSS and it probably has the best feel of any of my American strats and after swapping in some Lollar 64's...ooph...amazing guitar.
Got a major hankering for single coil sounds. Great teaser vid here.
Magical guitars
awesome and funny! thanks for this strat comparison
Think you can get that Schecter in a cheaper guise - like half the price. Big Suhr fan but really loved the Lollar pick ups.
Ha! Weird and rambly is good. I think we'd all like to meet the voice characters you do :) LOL...
The input jack thing got me.
Haha, no guitars were harmed in the making of this video.
Shawn Tubbs Ha! Really like your videos and playing. Don’t know why you don’t have 10 times more subscribers. Your sense of humor is great. Would you consider the Chime a good push box for an already pretty dirty Friedman channel? It seems like it would be because of the eq section being powerful. Thanks and again keep doing what you’re doing cause it’s awesome. Cheers!
@@Boneronfire Thanks very much Joseph I appreciate the kind words of support. The Chime, in my opinion, is one of the best all-around pedals you can own. You hit the nail on the head! The EQ section is most useful.
Shawn Tubbs Far out! Thank you for the reply. Hope you’re safe and well.
Great vid, thanks!
it's the Schecter, defenitely that wins to my ears :)
0:27 teach me...
Ariel Posen YES! Me too Shawn 😆
It's all chromatic malarky man!! You're the best Ariel!!
