Robert Durst stands trial for the 2000 murder of friend Susan Berman. The trial began just before the pandemic in early 2020 and was halted two weeks in. The restart happened on May 17, 2021, with the same jury panel.
The defendant’s wife Kathleen McCormack Durst went missing in 1982. Evidence and testimony would show that Robert Durst killed her, the prosecutor said. The defendant allegedly told Berman it was an accident and asked her for help. She served as his alibi.
Berman, 55, was shot execution-style at her Beverly Hills home in 2000, and the prosecution suggested that it was because of what she knew about Kathleen’s death and disappearance. As defense lawyer Dick DeGuerin would have it, however, Durst is innocent. His client only came across the body, panicked, and fled, he maintained.

Susan Berman paid the price for protecting Durst ...She knew he killed Kathy and helped him. Really dont feels sorry for her. His other friends are horrid
Durst was last arrested with directions to his x-wife's best friend, Gilberte Najame's house, who consoled her after Durst smashed her face and she was at the ER & planning a strategy to leave. This witness was probably also on Dursts hit list.
Responsible for two deaths because he didn’t speak up. He didn’t even have a good reason why! Durst was already done with him. He’s lucky Durst didn’t knock him off too.
This has to be the longest trial known to man.

At least he's a more normal witness as a Durst friend than Oliver and Giordano, etc.
How many of you out there who, like this guy or Laraine Newman, that have first hand knowledge of admissions of guilt of murder - be it second-hand thru a close or best friend - would willingly keep quiet and withhold that info from police for years and years? I'm really curious!
Absolutley. You have to wonder about the character of someone who says Durst - a serial killer - was his best friend.

anyone that can be bought for money isn't a 'friend'.
I am shocked at all the hear say evidence being given in this testimony. It has been my impression over the years that it was not admissible because memory is not perfect. Seems they are breaking a lot of rules of evidence in this case.
I think it is different if the person is dead. There was a new law passed several years ago allowing hearsay if the person is deceased.
It depends on the case and what kind of testimony given etc. sometimes hearsay is allowed
If a prosecution witness testifies that the defendant personally confessed to him, that's not hearsay. It falls under "party admission" in the Rules of Evidence. If Chavin's testimony were "I know a guy who told me that Durst confessed," then that would be hearsay.
What are the two words Durst's second wife said? I cannot make out what Chavin is saying.

It sounds like Susan was Aspergers?
Durst was diagnosed as Schizophrenia as a youth, but Aspergers much later in life. Perhaps that's why they hit it off?
