What a lot of ppl are forgetting is that in that stretch, the Mavs had an easy schedule.
Since the trade deadline, Mavs have only 3 victories against teams not in the play-in or eliminated… those were:
Suns
Okc
Nuggets
My prediction is:
with Kawhi, Clips in 6
Without Kawhi, Mavs in 7
Last year Russ and Powell were dropping 30+ although losing against healthy Suns with Booker, KD and CP3.
Now add PG and Harden to that mix and it makes it competitive. And with Kawhi it tips the scales
Just because some of the teams were in the play-in, that doesn’t mean they weren’t decent teams…we know how stacked the play-ins can be especially in the West. Note the kings for example, who the Mavericks beat two times in a row. There were also the rockets who at the time were on a 11 game winning streak that the Mavs ended. You also forget about the Knicks
They also changed their starting lineup when they hit the easy schedule. You have to look at the OKC game… they dominated with Gafford and PJ on the floor along side with Luka and Kyrie. They had them coming off the BENCH after that game as well and had a bad stretch (lost to Celtics, 76ers, and pacers in a row).
When they realize they needed to change something, they had a serious team meeting and added PJ, Gafford, and DJJ to the starting lineup. Been great together ever since. There’s no “hype,” this is real. They’ll see and study the clippers based off the first game. J Kidd is smart.

As a Mavs fan, I feel confident. Looking at these teams the last couple of months, the Mavs have been objectively better in almost every way, so it makes sense to pick them. BUT I’m concerned we will see a different Clippers team that is energized for the first round. Despite their disappointing post season results, all of the Clippers stars are usually pretty good to really good in the first round. I just don’t know what to expect from them, and I’m already stressed out. But I guess that is just what playoff basketball does to me 😂

a big thing in this series will be how long and how well zubac does because if he just going to get cooked all games the clippers are going to go small that not a good idea against the mavs they have and who would play the 5 if they went small
This series may determine the fate of both teams. For Clippers, they could be blown up. For Mavericks, this might push them into make a major trade just to defeat Clippers.
The theme here is 3-0. Clippers have never gone up 3-0; in fact, they've lost series after going up 2-0 (Grizzlies in 2013, Blazers in 2016). Mavericks were one game away from going up 3-0 in 2021, only for the Clippers to pull a 2-0 comeback not once, but twice, resulting in their first ever conference finals berth. Go up 3-0, your team automatically wins. No team in NBA history has ever recovered from a 3-0 playoff series deficit, and that perfect record of teams winning with a 3-0 lead has grown to 151, including four series that have drawn a Game 7. I wish I had context for other leagues and sports with 7-game series so that I could compare with NBA's: we only had one in MLB with 2004 Red Sox and the first basketball 3-0 comeback in 2016 with San Miguel Beermen of Philippine Basketball Association, and of course 3-0 comebacks are well known in NHL.
Minor facts: Clippers have never defeated a team in the playoffs three times in a row - they have lost to teams thrice (Jazz in 1992, 1997 and 2017; Suns in 2006, 2021 and 2023). Clippers are 4-0 when an ejection occurs in one of their games, including one where their coach Tyronn Lue was tossed - in fact, they have no player ejections this season (Thunder and Magic also share Clipper's feat).
My prediction: there's none. This is going down as the greatest coin flip of all time in NBA history.
Now this is something that makes sense and is rational.
Should have broken down the analysis, like who's got the deeper bench, the better coach, playoffs experience, etc. The Clippers should be have the edge considering the homecourt advantage. Jones, Exum, Washington should be play extremely well just to be able to balance the firepower & deeper bench of the Clippers. LA in 6.
Prediction: Mavs in 7, both the Clips and Mavs will win at home, meaning a game 7 in LA. In that case, I’d much rather have Luka and Kyrie given their game 7 records(2016 and 2022) than the Clippers’ trio. Therefore, I say Mavs in 7.

Clippers in 6. The trapping defense with the deep rotations will exhaust Luka & Kyrie making them less effective on defense. Clippers will take every 2nd quarter of the series.

Reality, History and Logic have proven that Kawhi is a better OVERALL player than Luka........it doesn't matter what emotional attachment you have with Luka!!! Kawhi has averaged 33/10/6 with 58/41/88 splits on Luka and the Mavericks in the playoffs.
Luka is only 25,and is better than Kawhi has ever been.And I like Kawhi.

Luka averages about 25-27 shots a game whilst Kawhi averages 17-19......because Kawhi is more efficient than Luka, Kawhi would easily average 35pts a game taking the same amount of shots
