planning is the most important, with a mock up, although everything seems as important as another, a detailed plan and procedure for whatever you are building is essential for time management and ultimately making something that you can use. I've built so many different things that were great in theory but I did not plan for inevitable obstructions that wound up leaving a hole in a panel and an awesome little pile of what use to be fiberglass and mdf mixed with a day of hard work without planning. Good job on your videos.
One answer covers every point here: the 7 'P' rule. Proper Planning and Preparation Prevents a P155 Poor Performance. Actually it doesn't; take your time, never rush a job, I completely agree with 'measure twice, cut once'. But the most important rule of all: make it look and sound SLAMMIN!! nice vids dude. going to be using a lot of your techniques on my install.
Glad you liked it, I knew this would be a short video so I wanted to try out a new style and see what you guys thought, you like the "bass to the Face"?
I'm gonna have to watch all Car Audio Fabrication videos so I can start "PLANNING" my set up..... Thanks Mark for all the hard with you put into these videos to help us learn the different techniques used for a successful build..... Awesome work...looking forward for the next series.....
I would have to agree with you Mark in planning is key. I made little sketches in my notebook of builds plenty of times. Thinking how my space I will have and need. What design will look best and flow with the car. You want to make sure you have it write on paper before you start cutting wood and using fiberglass and have to change your design. That will be a lot of wasted time and material, and we both know those are not cheap.
for me, the biggest thing to remember is to TAKE YOUR TIME. projects like these aren't a quick mashup. it takes a lot of work, so be prepared for the final result to be a long ways away. but, it will be worth it. just this simple tutorial had a great finished product. i hope mine comes out that clean, ill be really happy with that result
Thanks for sharing Mark, I've watched all 7 episodes this evening and it is invaluable info. In my case, I'll be customizing whole panels aswell as the centre console as my car has been stripped back to the metal. These vids are gonna help me alot! I'm with you on the most important aspect to adhere to: planning is the key to a great install o/
Research!! Planning, then Prep....I'm already visualizing a build for my 99 BMW 323i sedan. I haven't even bought my stereo deck yet, but I've watched most of your videos( and many others) for tips, ideas & inspiration. I've probably got about 80-100 hours of car audio/customization videos under my belt by now!! My wife thinks I've got a little bit of ocd going.
Like BigKing17 mentioned, take your time and carefully plan ahead. I have a 2003 SUV Isuzu Ascender (extended cabin version). Loved your tutorial on those Door Pods, actually I can't wait to try it on mines (all four doors). This will be my first fiberglass door panel pods project ever. After watching your step by step tutorial, I feel confident enough to try it. From Puerto RIco thumbs up on your Door Pods tutorial!!!
Safety 1st, Planning 2nd to safety! Practice before permanently fixing, After Practicing Metal Fabrication for the past 22 years ive learnt this, nothing worse than having to Gouge out a perfectly good weld,, Like Skydiving,,, why jump out of a perfectly good airplane, its fun right! Perfect Planing makes perfect Practice! :) Thanks for the Awesome door pod vid's!! I think i am ready to go out buy a router!!
Amp cover is a totally separate build in a totally different car, There is no way to do a door POD without having seams, I said this several times. You guys asked to see pods, fully customizing a door panel is a different story. The holes I made on mine where only in locations that you be concealed by the factory grill, so returning to stock is not an issue. Why not do it as one piece in the first place? Because people asked to see PODS. One piece (not equal to) pods.
+CarAudioFabrication I thought it was great and very informative, subscribing to your channel is going to help me tune my skills, looking forward to watching more videos
Thank you for tutorials! They will become handy since I have 3 cars and everyone of them needs to finished by the end of this years summer :) Nice videos and thanks again
Planning and prep work. Never take short cuts. Nice final video of this install Mark. Maybe convince the owner if the truck to upgrade to a double din radio? Custom work the dash a little bit? Would make great videos on showing how to bond fiberglass to plastic.
Joel Hunter it's not only where you place them, but also HOW you place them. The one thing I wish he would have also included in this video series would be for him to seal them for a nice tight mid-bass. He could have also touched on some basics about sound deadening materials and how to apply them IN THIS SITUATION. I know he has other videos about that topic, but it would be a great bit of knowledge to accompany this particular install.
I have a classic car here in the U.K. with no room to mount speakers in doors or in kickwell pods. I do however have room under the front seats. I thought about making pods for under the front seats and having the speaker facing towards the dashboard firing between your knees. I know it’s not ideal but it’s all I have to work with. What’s your thoughts.
If the goal was all out SQ I wouldn't be putting tweeters in the doors, they would be in the a pillar in a nice 3 way active set up. But that wasn't the goal here. Owner of the vehicle didnt want the pod infringing on the foot space within the vehicle, so I was limited on how much i could tweak the angle. Not everyone has the same goal... a valuable tip to learn, thanks for watching!
I want to you to know there are ladies watching... Im about to hook my Benz up with door pods and rear dash. Thanks for all you wisdom. I will post videos of my progress and success. About to start cutting my rings for my speakers this week.
im planning a project for my truck. i have an 84 f250. it has a bench seat which i plan on taking out and putting in two bucket seats and designing a center console to go in between that houses an amp, speakers, radio, a little compartment for storage and switches for various accessories, and most importantly.... cupholders!
DO we need to attach the custom pod to the actual frame of the door for better sound? Also do we have to align the speaker with the factory hole of the actual door and put some rings from mdf to drive the sound in to the door ? Or it doesn't really make any difference on the sound ? Thank you very much.
Great video, like always, just one quick question, when you have fasten the speaker panel to the door panel, is there not any risk that the speakers will make some movement in the door panel? is it not possible to fasten the speaker panel and the door panel straight to the inner steel frame? hope that I am making my self clear enough :) Thanks again for the great video, always learning more and more from you.
Lock nuts prob should be used if you have some serious bass they are gonna fall off. What was the purpose of the rectangular inserts on the bottom of the door?
I would love to do that but with my hands I proubally wouldn't be able to finish. Excalent job though I watch all of them and seen some others. Thank you for the info Ryan
I agree, planning! and you also need air flow to make em move right! I am probably the worst person for procrastination. LOL good looks aint all there is to it! thanks for the series.
thanks for the info, ive been waiting on my refund for the past 80 days or so, but when i get it i want to kick of my door panels in my sierra. watching you do this on pretty much the same door panel really clears things up. but i was wondering what your opinion is on the staging for my jl c5 3 ways. i was thinking about using the factory bose tweeter location and pretty much putting the 4" mid range where you put your tweeter. but it almost makes me want to put another set of tweeters down by the mid range. i know Steve Meade has mids and hi's in his A pillars. that might be excessive but it would probably sound good.
clean, secret, smooth, ready to rock! i watched them all Mr Mark! you know what you tell a husband with 2 black eyes? NOTHING! HE'S ALREADY BEEN TOLD TWICE!!!! hahahahah! thought youd like that one Mark.
u got skills. I don't want to spend months and $ thousands trying to do this stuff - I'm bringing my ride to you 4 install LOL. That's the most aluable lesson. If you don't have a table router, orbital, workshop, respirator, etc. Bring car 2 someone who does and has incredible skill.
What, if anything, would you need to do to these pods to keep all the midbase you can in a high power application? They look awesome, truly, but I imagine the whole door panel vibrating like a mofo when the power gets turned up... weight to dampen vibration? Something to seal the panel to the door?
T Coffin Racing I was going to ask this same question. . Any good answers if sealed is better than the typical ib way that most vehicles come from the factory are ?
Sealed is of course WAY better but making a sealed enclosure that is the right volume for the speaker and placed far forward in the audio image is very difficult. This is why kick panels are used sometimes for this purpose.
Very true, I have many many sketches, thanks for stopping by Russ.
Planning is the most important lesson
The most important thing about car audio is to make it, no blabla , do it !!!!
Cool video like always !!
I've gotta say that planning is the most important to me as well. Thanks again for this series, and all of your great videos!
Nice, I agree those are important, thanks for watching!
Very very important, thank you for watching.
Learning from your mistakes is the most important lesson. Appreciate you Mark.

AMEN to the 7 P's!
A man I worked for in the past, whom I learned a lot about business and life from preached the 7 P's!
Glad you liked it, I knew this would be a short video so I wanted to try out a new style and see what you guys thought, you like the "bass to the Face"?

Love the corny edge to these videos while also being very professional and informative!
i like these pods, i have a chevy 2500 and with these pods it would really set off my truck system. thanks for your tutorials.
Patience, dedication, and perseverance.
Haha, she was mad because I always make her out to be mean, I will have to show how cool she is in one of the vids.
Planning! This guys awesome! Looks great

Planing and having the money. I would love to see from start to finish what goes through your head when your planing a build.
Because when you fail to plan, you plan to fail.................awesome videos, thanks so much for taking the time!!
taking your time to plan everything to ensure a perfect fit along with clearances for major components
Lots of bashing on these door pods, I think they look good. Nice work Mark
i watched all the videos back to back....love it

I bet that was fun!
Excellent tutorial series overall. sensational content and editing, Best series Ive watched since you tube started, well worth it. Thank you so much
Planning, Prep and measurements. Great series Like button SMASHED!!!!!
+Raw Customs Congrats on finishing the series! thanks for the comments along the way! Did you enjoy it?

planning baby! Separation is in the preparation!
Nice answer, thanks for posting!
having unlimited money... for the next project
Good work man, its all those little things that make it look so good.
So....does the glovebox on that truck actually open when the passenger door is closed? is that what you meant about planning?
Totally true! Thanks for posting!
PLANING IS EVERYTHING
HAHAHA! Nice! Thanks for watching Mike.
Definitely Planning!
Your goal, once you know your goal then you can start the planning process, learning the hard way here.
Planning and prep work. Never take short cuts. Nice final video of this install Mark. Maybe convince the owner if the truck to upgrade to a double din radio? Custom work the dash a little bit? Would make great videos on showing how to bond fiberglass to plastic.

Since the inserts are press fit, do you have to every once in a while press them back into place because of closing the door jarring them loose?

ive got an opinion on making door panels and that is to get someone like you to do it...great work
Haha thank you, hopefully though with the steps shown here you will one day have the confidence to give it a try yourself, thanks for watching
this is a speaker pod, what do you think about speaker enclosure for the 6.5" driver? does it bring out more midbass?
Planning-attention to detail! 😊
If the goal was all out SQ I wouldn't be putting tweeters in the doors, they would be in the a pillar in a nice 3 way active set up. But that wasn't the goal here. Planning and checking fitment. Fabrication is fun unless you don't plan it out and keep making sure everything fits!!
im planning a project for my truck. i have an 84 f250. it has a bench seat which i plan on taking out and putting in two bucket seats and designing a center console to go in between that houses an amp, speakers, radio, a little compartment for storage and switches for various accessories, and most importantly.... cupholders!

Pods look Great Man!!! Keep up the great vids.
Planning is everything ! :)
Planning and watching C.A.F videos :)
WOOO! Thanks for posting!
The most important lesson about car audio is take your time, listen to Mark and watch his videos ;)

Planning is everything!!!!
Use quality products.
Really I didn't knew we were taking a class.
Been there! Nothing worse than that feeling, I always make mock up boxes for trunk cars out of cardboard now before I make the actual box
Patience. Whether it is, saving or building or painting, wrapping etc. The longer you take on your builds the better
I agree, gotta love these videos!
Planning and planning ahead
Its actually a plastic called Low Temp Plastic, it bends with heat.
I agree, planning! and you also need air flow to make em move right! I am probably the worst person for procrastination. LOL good looks aint all there is to it! thanks for the series.
the most important lesson - messure twice cut one !
Planning and measuring ✏🗒

planning measure twice cut once!
Lol I like that one! Thanks for watching!
I spend soooo much time on research! Thanks for commenting!
Most important part....remember the 6 P's! Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance. LoL. Great video just watched it again.
Most important lesson is to have fun and never stop being creative ...
is proper installation!
Clean and efficient
Do you plan on sealing these speakers in? Do you have any experience of sealed vs infinite baffle setups in doors? Also what speakers are those?
T Coffin Racing I was going to ask this same question. . Any good answers if sealed is better than the typical ib way that most vehicles come from the factory are ?
