In each of these category/player Taylormade videos, I see Colin Morikowa asking questions and taking in what others have to say. I don’t see ego, I see someone genuinely wanting to get better. Admirable.
I've noticed this too. Whenever I hear him talk about technique, it seems he doesn't say "there is one way to do this". Instead, I hear him talk about the many ways to approach the same shot, and he asks other players about different approaches that aren't his own style. He is being curious and is a "student of the game" as some say. Taking that approach is allowing him to build his own style from a lot of different techniques, experiment and become a more creative player. ** In other words ... Be like Collin. The alignment aid conversation is interesting. I think a lot of amateurs falsely assume that aim errors in putting are down to alignment, versus things like an inconsistent strike and under/overreading breaks, which probably follows on from the emphasis of aim in the long game. The fact is, our aim is probably not that much worse than theirs, but their strokes are virtually automatic, and they gauge speed and break almost perfectly in concert with that.
Jason Day had the best tip that I’ve used time and time again, which is ALWAYS putt to one foot PAST the hole....never up, never in. Always amazed when one of my competitors consistently leaves the ball short.
Nicklaus said he putted at his best when he felt a 'gentleness' in his grip pressure, which allowed him to feel the putter head weight swing and he would just drop the weight of the putter on the ball and not force it, which helped his overall feel for pace control.
