You did think about riding a bike on the AT before. In one of your past videos where you were climbing, you were talking about what it would be like to ride a bike through the AT and how all other hikers will call you out for it. :-). Glad you got to do some of it and see you happy and smiling. Thanks for sharing.
I have enjoyed listening to your knowledge of the A.T. You have so much to offer and wish you only the best. My husband retired from the csx railroad and was the 4th generation. He is now very much into history whereas I'm into hiking. We both are into adventures. You could be considered our youtuber granddaughter 😊. Good luck with your new adventures.
I’ve hiked the creeper many times and have biked it once, love it. If/when I thru hike the AT this is one spot I don’t think I can be a purest. I think I would hike the creeper instead of the AT for this section- so much more scenery! BTW, that cafe is “ok” so you didn’t miss much. Also, I know a forester, I was just talking with him about chestnuts- they have developed a hybrid of the American and Asian chestnut (this current hybrid I understand is resistant), but they are working on making it ‘more’ American (higher percentage).
the creeper trail is so much fun! please bring some of that virginia sunshine and warmth home with you! ak is 🌧️🌧️🌧️right now! looking forward to watching more fun adventures!
So glad to see you so happy in your video today! You are an amazing person. I hope you continue to educate us and give us laughs as we enjoy your adventures life!
I will greatly miss your AT hiking videos. You have excellent skill at spreading the highest quality AT knowledge I have heard yet. Pure entertainment for me. Wish success in copying Sunny's likeable characteristics from these AT videos towards future paid employment, people relationships, and squeezing more perpetual fun from every day.
Last year, I won two American Chestnut blight resistant saplings at Trail Days! My son is an ecology student and donated them to his school. They are doing well last time I checked. :)
We discovered the Creeper trail years ago and have been back 4 or 5 times. It's a bucket list experience, especially good in the fall. There are apples trees along the trail and in September you can pick and eat while you ride!
Hey there Sunny. We’ve been enjoying your journey. Your depth and breadth and enthusiasm for history is remarkable. Wildlife too. Look up “puddling behavior” for butterflies. Seems like you had a blast today. Mixing in a few days like that would make the adventure more bearable. I would hope you could join a tramily with your same humor and speed. Best wishes.
Hi Sunny! So bummed you're thinking about getting off the trail! I've been hoping you would hit your stride and find some fun people to hang out with while learning to love the adventure you are on...Alaska will always be there (I think you live there!)..I hope you find the fun for the hike as you had on your bike ride. If not, it was fun watching you attempt the trail. Take care. Zman
Oh my goodness, I may have to watch that again. What joy. My bragging rights is I've done the whole thing and I can so relate to this, It's fairly steep at the top at least at Whitetop station and for a while it feels like you're riding on a motorcycle going downhill, no peddling. There is an American Chestnut Foundation which is working on the cross-breeding of American Chestnuts and Chinese Chestnuts, the latter being blight resistant then going back and cross-breeding more to remove all the other Chinese Chestnut characteristics but leave the blight resistance. There are a few other pests affecting the A. chestnuts too like Phytophtora root rot and those are also being worked on. It is my understanding that there have been large plantings of C. dentata which they hope will keep living. Eleanor Roosevelt attended a music festival on White Top Mountain (btw - the second highest mountain in VA) back in the 30s. Wayne Henderson, legendary luthier lives in the area. I take it Rabbit's husband picked her up and took her home? (Bad foot?) Speaking of train-riding hobos, Hobo Shoestring (from Tennessee) passed away a couple months ago. You're right, have fun. This is what you should do.
Hey Sunny! If happen to visit PA in your travels, you would love the Great Allegheny Passage Trail. It’s a rails to trails bike & pedestrian path from Pittsburgh to DC & quite beautiful with lots of history. I think you would also enjoy all the historical sites in PA as well (Gettysburg, Fort Necessity, etc). Whatever you decide, I hope you enjoy the rest of the summer & can take us along 😊
You've been brightening a housebound old man's day for a couple of months now. So it's time to go do what brightens your day. Thanks for the 2 months, though. I'll be staying subscribed in case you feel like posting your next endeavor. Have fun, Sunny!
Happy to see you rode the creeper, it’s such a fun trail. Ironically I sing the same song every time I ride my bike! Many will miss your vidyas if you get off trail, hope you keep your channel going!
I was on the Alaska Railroad last summer and briefly saw a beaver hauling itself out of a river, it looked so big from the back of it that it was like a sasquatch! Glad you had fun on this day!
Breed chickens until they all crazy looking lol. You crack me up. Interesting about the chestnuts. I would have loved to have lived back then to see those. Happy hiking/biking to you. 😊🌞🥾
🤣 Omg, I'm flippin' dyin' ovah heyah! See ya at the sheltah! Passing hikers at 80 mph! 😂 Mm, candied bacon and chutney compotes. 😋 You absolutely rock Sunny. 🤘
Sorry to hear that you are going to get off of trail I have enjoyed watching your informative videos. I can imagine it would be difficult to hike 2,200 miles if you are not enjoying yourself. I wish you the best on your Alaska adventure.
Really enjoy your spirit and wit…I’ve heard the trail isn’t for everyone (only hope to find out for myself one day) wish you had found at least one person to hike with to make it more enjoyable…totally see how solo for this long is a bit of a bummer. Glad that you are following your heart and choosing to experience new adventurous things! Please keep posting videos! Wishing you all the best!!
Hey Sunny! Not sure where you are right now. There is a hiker by the name of Mosey (Rissa Roams) that is maybe a couple of days behind you. She is losing her tramily in the next few days and not looking forward to it. Maybe you two could eventually join up, I think it would work best for both of you. We want you to stay. Call us selfish, but you’re so interesting, smart and funny. Please stay! 🤗

Do you know when you will be getting off? If you need a ride to the airport in Roanoke maybe I could drop you off.

Yeah, I've also seen Tiger Swallowtails "puddling" around poop so a little more deviant than we realize ;^)
Please keep posting wherever you end up. Glad to see you got your wish to ride a bicycle- thought you were riding an e-bike it looked so effortless.
it's a pretty good downhill with the livery services.

When you finish the AT you can cycle the East Coast Greenway from Maine to Florida.

A friend of mine said his grandfather told him the mountains would turn white in the spring with the flowering Chestnuts.
Please, please, please carry us to Alaska with you!

I find myself singing I love my bike…😂😂😂😂
I think I’ve decided to cycle across the USA instead of the AT - I just think that’s more doable, although AT is on my bucket list also
I would love to continue watching your adventures off trail
I'm so sad your ending your journey, there's so much more beauty to be seen Sunny. No joke..one might say ,the best is yet to come .😊
I remember reading a story about “Bismarck”. Thanks for sharing the hx
Beavers are quite large and very territorial!
Take us on your Alaskan adventure!!!
I loved this!!!!!!
The Creeper is my favorite trail. Ride it often!

You can’t be catching feelings on the trail!😂😂😂
In reading The Japanese chestnut trees were first imported by S.B. Parsons 1876.
Did you read about Simon Kenton? He saved Daniel Boone and has history in the hills. He is very interesting.
I did the same thing. I think that creeper short cut saved 2000+ in elevation gain vs the AT. Hopefully that café was open when you came through.
@@tommybewick HYOH!
Where is your helmet!
Well yeah, there's that.
Back crossing trees w resistant species. Adel-jid just fyi
