My brother and I used to surf the South side of Indian River Inlet back in like 1977. Lost him to suicide this May just across the border to the South in Ocean City, MD. Thanks for having this vintage content up. He would have grooved on seeing it. We also attended Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria/Fairfax County.
Wow, my work bro from years ago always told me about "Wishbone Ash". Great video of surfing history on the East Coast and awesome music to back it up. My condolences to the family of Frank Dorenkamp. May he rest in peace.
I have lots of good memories of these spots 10-15 yrs later. Didn't know it then but growing up on these beaches was probably the best thing that ever happened to me. IR inlet early am , in fuckin January. Walking to northside from 3RS because it was too early. Starcade in bethany... tourist girls. Thanks for a good memory trip!
RIP Frank Dorenkamp! From Frank's sister, Peggy: With profound sadness, I want to tell you that our brother, Frank passed away last weekend while vacationing with our family in Delaware. While in the ocean, he was tossed by a rough wave and sustained a neck fracture. If you knew him, you know how much he loved the ocean, and that there was no other way he would have wanted to leave this earth. We are grateful that he didn't suffer and that he was with his family at the time. We are going to spread his ashes in both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans so that he can continue to ride the waves.
Bought my first board off of Bill Wise in '69. Surfed the south side for many years. IR has a new bridge now and I have concrete debris from the old one. Sent to me by my old friend and owner of my old board, Nick Morris
@skonk I knew Bill Wise - great man - but not through surfing - his wife was my Dad's cousin. I just stumbled on these old surf vids. and I recognize your name from the Bill Wise Surfs website.

Cool stuff! I've used to listen to Wishbone Ash long ago. Nice to notice it fits well with surfing movie. Time goes by but surf is forever!
