I had a VCR the unit used a .1 Farad capacitor I think. It died and I replaced it with one from a surplus store. The one I put in, never died. Was a much larger value, maybe .47 and was only a few bucks.

When servicing these retro amplifiers could you do a quick overview of the whole circuit e.g. what power amplifier chips it uses.

I hope he didn't want the battery changed so that the presettings would remain.

How hard is it to punch in new presets?

Not too bad to replace, it reminds me of some of the ham radios i've done :-)
I had my frends laptop computer in for a 3v battery replace, it kept loseing the cmos settings.
The battery was inaccessible without a full strip and case removal, silly design.

My test bench receiver needs a new battery. It is just at that point that it is starting to do strange things.

Not quite as strange as your cat does lol :-)
I have an old yaesu frg7700 thats been so dam handy for listerning to i.f strips in faulty cb's, and a realistic 2006 scanner for high frequency tests.
Also an old racal dana 1998 frequency counter.
It's all old stuff but i like old equipment :-)

Did the "new" battery have a date code on it? Maybe it's been on the store shelf for 20 years.

Hi There! I think i seen all of your repairs. Got an issue with Yamaha rx-v2067.. The speakers icons wont kick in. I went to local Electronic engineer to get some help. This guy replaced a voltage regulator so all should be fine. Nope. Still nothing. At the second attempt he discovered a faulty bga chip witch replacement is not available. I noticed that if i Heat the pcb board my speakers kicks in and i got the sound for about 20 minutes. Its enough to cool it down and cut off the sound. Is there a hope to solve the problem?
    Regards
    Tomasz
    PS. Forgive my broken English.

Sounds like that Texas instruments DSP chip that has caused so many problems. I have an onkyo on now that I suspect the DSP. Will be looking at that today.

@@12voltvids Perfect! Cant w8 to see the progress of repair and solution!

@@dorszes If it is the DSP which I suspect it is, the unit will not be repaired as the client is not prepared to spend money on it, and second I do not have the equipment to change BGA and will not invest in equipment to do it unless I can make the money back from the expense, and these days people toss equipment for even the most minor repairs.

Thank you for clarification. Well, in this case, I'm going to search for a replacement unit. Thank you again. Anyway can't wait for your upload!

Haters gonna hate. Lol. I used to run my own repair shop, before I got sick, I have 4 diseases now. So it's fun watching these. I still fix stuff here and there for people. I still have a bunch of parts, can't just toss em!

Sorry to hear that. Have had many friends lately either be diagnosed with chronic or life threatening diseases. Every time I sneeze I am worried because all those years I worked in the business I was exposed to chemicals, cleaners, lubricants, smoke from soldering, smoke from components burning up ect. 2 guys I worked with have both developed cancer. One was a very heavy smoker though, the other not.
