Didn’t her semblance evolve in the pre volume 1 character short training with Yang?
@@valathor95 That was how she first unlocked it. She keeps evolving it throughout the show though.
Actually, I think you can know your abilities but still refine it with experience. Ruby earlier seemed to emit "rose petals" after using her semblence, but not so much any more - I surmise that the "petals" were manifestations of excess energy that evaporated, but she can now contain and conserve the energy so it doesn't bleed off.
Still has some evolution to go. Being able to merge with someone and transfer it. She's learning to refine it.
The food fight also demonstrates how they can use their aura with everyday objects to turn them into weapons. Hence why at some points the food breaks, and at others it's as hard as steel.
Ah yes, the episode with arguably the most epic food fight EVER.
Also, Ruby’s Semblance is speed, hence why she’s able to turn herself into a human tornado to drag all the foodstuffs and shove them into Team JNPR’s faces.

If we ignore the Volumes after Montys death, than calling it power of speed doesnt explain her becoming red rose petals.
I personaly think that her speed is a secondary effect.
@@MandalorOrdo I’d like to agree. The petals are supposed to be a cool and stylish visual effect of what’s going on, not Ruby LITERALLY turning into rose petals. The writers post-Monty don’t seem to remember or care.
And Pyrrha's semblance is called, "The power to control poles."

It is weird that she never really shows this much power again… For the most part I think it just seemed like something cool, so they did it, but then realised that it would make her too powerful or something… Although, there are probably ways to explain why she doesn’t normally use it… Like maybe it uses up a lot of aura, so it’s not practical for actual combat situations… I don’t know… It’s also possible that Ruby doesn’t know how she did it… She doesn’t always think things through deeply lol.

Such a fun episode, and it's crazy how much of a glow up the show gets every season. If ya noticed there are no longer shadow people waking around.
A few Easter Eggs in this chapter......one of the vending machines reads "People Like Grapes"....which is a random quote from Gavin Free (Slo-Mo Guys, etc) from the Rooster Teeth podcast ages ago; they even made a t-shirt of it at the time. And the "what, like a Puma?" is a nod to Red vs. Blue, discussing a combat vehicle.
A great reaction as always. The Rooster Teeth animators are such trolls. For the people who watched the series as it came out, the crew posted a spoiler of the food fight, but without the food. So everyone was freaking out at the drama (Ruby shouting "Weiss, no!" while holding her body) and then the episode came out and it was a food fight. It was hilarious and frustrating at the time, but now it's an iconic scene from the show. I have now watched the anime reboot of RWBY yet (RWBY Ice Queendom) except for a few clips. The food fight was one of the clips I watched and it was beautifully done. Apparently they used the food fight as the season one ending though, so it is framed a bit differently. One day I will watch Queendom, but I want the English version to come out first so I can decide which voice acting I like better

Ruby’s semblance allows her to move very quickly while twisting into a tornado-like burst of rose petals. It gives her a boost of speed while also allowing her to change direction in mid-air.
That’s a fun power to have 😀
Ruby's ability, as I'm sure dozens of people have mentioned it in the comments already, is speed; however, the whole part about the food is basically what happens when you toss a paper towel and the turbulence that the car's moving speed created causes the paper towel to look like it's following the car.

The puma line is from another series made by Rooster Teeth called Red vs Blue.
I think he was more of a Chupathingie.
8:19 funfact: In the trailer for Volume 2, this scene had all the food removed and much more serious lighting, implying this was a much darker moment, only for it to be revealed to be food fight.
8:23 when we all saw that scene in the trailer for this volume, we were all fooled into thinking this would be a serious scene. Then we saw the scene and we were all like “you bastards!(laughing)!”
Volume 2 also has my favorite theme song from the series so far, with Volume 4 coming in a close second for just how appropriate it is for that volume.

The effect from Ruby's semblance is super speed in a vacuum, and then the twist at the end made the air twist in and form a vortex

Mercury and Emerald get along like bickering siblings. They give each other a hard time, but they do genuinely like one another.
"Sisters, Friends, Weiss" I believe is taken from the Roman saying "Friends, Romans, Countrymen" by Marc Antony in the Shakespeare play Julius Caesar and the four score is a nod to President Lincoln. Also when Ruby says "I am not a crook" is a reference to President Nixon denying allegations of his corruption.
8:37 unofficial meme is that Ren paused because he could see up Yang's skirt and felt embarrassed. Also at 8:51 Ren's figure actually glitches into the floor, bit of a fun technical error XD
I also think "I had a dream" was a nod to Martin Luther King Jr.

Couple of things to mention. First, I'm wondering if you caught that Emerald, around 1:05, had stolen the shopkeepers wallet. When Mercury said "That's not your money", and Emerald replied "It could be yours...". It's subtle so not everyone catches it. :-)
Also, just as a little detail, Glenda still had to use some energy to do what she did to fix the cafeteria. So while she does make it seem simple, it isn't something that she would want to deal with on a regular basis. :-)

Funny thing actually, Ruby's tornado had long since stopped, but Glynda still had to deflect incoming food.
So one among the seven threw something at her.

Fun fact: Tukson was originally blonde but CRWBY thought he looked too much like Sabertooth, so they made him black hair which just make him look like Wolverine instead. lol
Also Tukson is the first death in the series. Which starts off vol.2 with a bit of a darker tone.
Ruby's semblance is the same now as it was in the trailers and volume 1. She's just using it in a new way by adding in the tornado twist. Sadly there's not much more to say about it, or other people's semblances without dipping into moderate to strong potential spoiler territory.
8:22 Fun Fact, when the first trailers/teasers for Volume 2 were coming out, Ruby's cry of anguish was shown as the last image of the trailer...without the food scattered around. Which a few people were worried, but the rest of the community went "hmm, that seems a little over the top and too soon for RWBY, I wonder what this context is..."
Part 2: "I thought he was a cat actually." "What like a Puma?" Is a reference to Rooster Teeth's Red vs Blue series, where the Halo Warthog was introduced and the soldiers thought the name wasn't appropriate and tried to name it better. Second episode.

Semblances can evolve over time and in this case Ruby's evolved from simply being fast in Volume 1 to straight up tornado speed here. The rose petals are usually a sign of her semblance at work though they don't always appear every time she uses it such as in this case.
This is one of my favorite episodes out of everything! Mainly because of the best food fight of all time. But also because we get to be introduced to some more villains and other students.
Only down side is there is no way to have this great a food fight in real life 🤩

This is my favorite episode of the entire series, and one of my favorite episodes (of any series) of all time
I haven't seen anyone mention this so I will. At 5:54, you'll see Ren covering his eyes, Pyrrha covering her mouth, and Jaune leaning on his hand, which happens to be covering his ear. This was a nod to the quote, "Hear no evil; See no evil; Speak no evil." While Nora's doing an "I didn't do it. Nobody saw me do it. You can't prove anything. It was their fault" pose.
Also, if you look at the background, you'll see copies of our heroes as fillers for the cafeteria. You'll see a lot of Jaunes around the scene.
My fav villain and ice cream flavor is slowly approaching, also Cinder is awesome!

Semblance. A huntsman/huntress' special unique power is called a semblance. Ruby's semblance is Petal Burst. It's a speed/transformation semblance which allows her increase her speed in small bursts while turning into rose petals.
The new characters are also based on literary and mythological figures.
Cinder Fall = Cinderella (which is why you hear tinkling glass whenever she walks.
Emerald Sustrai= Aladdin from 1001 Arabian Knights.
Mercury Black is based on the Roman/Gracian God Mercury/Hermes.
Fun Fact: Ruby's VA, Lindsey Jones (billed as Lindsey Tuggey in Vol. 1) got married to Michael Jones between Volumes 1 & 2. Michael Jones is the VA for Sun Wukong.
Semblance of speed has always been Rose's power. You see her use it now and again.

- Note how food, like the baguettes, doesn't break so long as the students are holding onto them? This is the enhancing power of their Aura. If Nora can send Yang skyward for over two minutes with a watermelon, imagine how strong she would be applying that same Aura strength to her actual hammer!

She's supposed to be based on Aladin, while Mercury is in the same boat as Neptune, being based on a Roman god. Unlike other characters, Mercury has no semblance (super-power) ...

One of my ultimate favorite fights in the series. This is what happens when you have a food fight in a combat school. Also if you notice several of them grabbed food that represented the weapons the actually use. Guys, meet Cinder, voiced by one of the most famous cosplayers in the world. Cinder is voiced by the totally awesome Jessica Nigri.
My second favourite fight is Team RWBY vs Team FNKI in Vol. 3

Wish these would come out sooner! Re watching alongside you! RWBY is a magical experience but man, trust me it gets very serious. Can't wait for the reactions! swore I was already subscribed as I been watching you guys on and off. But definitely want to see more of these
as far as I'm aware that ability of Ruby's never happens again which is sad because it's a very cool aspect of her ability. whether that ability is "super speed" or "controlling air" is a bit up for debate since they don't ever explain what her semblance IS, it's still very cool and makes her a very compelling fighter to watch.
Ozpin's phrase plays a big part later in the more recent seasons. But Goodwitch's anger from having to fix the cafeteria comes from the fact that it's an unnecessary use of her ability since she can't continuously keep using it (you'll see evidence of this later as well).
Yeah about this 9:30, don't expect her to do it again, like NEVER, is like she completely forgot that she can do that.

The Food Fight was more or less Monty Oum’s answer to the question of who would win? Team RWBY or Team JNPR. He did it in a way that kinda answered the question without there being actual stakes to the fight
So Ruby's ability or Semblance was teased in her trailer but when she goes fast she turns into rose peddles
Fun Facts:
Fact1: Originally, the RWBY crew considered including a shot after Mercury and Emerald leave Tukson's store, wherein the audience is given a view of Tukson's blood spattered on a wall inside the store.
Fact 2: Ruby, when explaining her plans to have the best day ever, references famous statements made by figures in American history.
Her speech, "Four score and seven minutes ago", starts similarly to Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, "Four score and seven years ago..".
This line also references the movie Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, as in the movie, Abraham Lincoln says "four score and seven minutes ago" towards the end of the film.
When Weiss accuses Ruby of stealing her binder, Ruby says that she is not a crook; a statement made by Richard Nixon.
She also referenced Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech.
Fact 3: Nora's boo at Yang's pun is a reference to how people respond to the puns made by Barbara Dunkelman, often getting groans and boos from others.
Fact 4: Right before the food fight, Ruby points at Team JNPR the same way Phoenix Wright does from the Ace Attorney series whenever he performs an objection.
Fact 5: Nora saying "Off with their heads" is a reference to the Queen from Alice in Wonderland.
Fact 6: During the food fight scene, several of the vending machines used in the barricade, as well as many of the cans flung about, have "People Like Grapes" printed on their front. This is a reference to a famous quote by Gavin Free, which is also used on a popular Rooster Teeth shirt.
Other food products include "Dr. Piper" (likely a reference to Dr. Pepper, as well as a likely reference to Peter Piper), "Ol' King Cold" (a reference to Old King Cole), and a milk carton called "Udder Satisfaction"
Fact 7: When Ren strikes the tables after getting tripped up by Weiss' ketchup puddle, a bowling pin sound can be heard when he makes impact. This noise was first used in the episode "Black and White" when Penny Polendina knocks down a group of White Fang members.
Fact 8: The last few seconds of the score from the food fight sequence are used as the outro for several Rooster Teeth animated shows.
Fact 9: The first book Emerald asks Tukson about is "The Thief and the Butcher", a title that coincides with the roles of Emerald and Mercury respectively.
One cool thing about the food fight is that it's one of the clearest displays of how Nora and Pyrrha are both generally stronger than Team RWBY, but Ren and especially Jaune are weaker. RWBY is pretty balanced in terms of how good a fighter each member is, but JNPR definitely isn't.
That general 'power ranking" stays mostly consistent throughout the series (though of course it fluctuates a lot with circumstances and matchups), and it's nice that the food fight displays it pretty well early on (The only thing it doesn't really make clear is how strong Pyrrha is, but we have a scene later on dedicated specifically to that)
Pyrrha just caries herself as someone that is super strong though 🤩💪
Cinder is based off of Cinderella. Emerald is based off of Aladdin. Mercury is based off of the Greek god of the same name. Neptune (the dude with Sun) is based off of the Roman god with the same name. Also I heard the food fight was Monty's answer to: Who would win in a fight Team RWBY or Team JNPR?

emeralds fairytale inspo is aladdin. mercury's is blatant and also 3rd crusade is a intresting topic of discussion i think still cuz it has ties to real life for taking back holy land but in rwby its only a theory. hope it gets elaborated more clearer.also the word your looking for is semblance, or just say power cuz its basically a power, pyrha has pointed out before that rwbys is speed n weiss's is her glyphs. also i think a lot of people say this episode is the best episode and i agree
No more shadow people; but more importantly, the most epic food fight in televisual history. As Pyrrha told Jaune, weapons are conduits for aura... including improvised ones. Therefore, turkeys and baguettes beat ballistic watermelons. They've been through a whole semeseter already, and making the most of one's semblance is probably on the curriculum.
If I'd been Torchwick, I would've sent someone to kill him on the train and toss the body between stations... but the person that would've done it is not yet introduced. Actually, I'm not sure they'd even been conceived at this point of writing, but we'll get to that later. Point is, the wilderness between the kingdoms is sparsely populated, mostly due to grimm. The body would never be found.
Wow, now she has to be watchful for surpise pies-in-the-face.

The scene where you guys saw Ruby use her Red Hood, that was in episode 1 of the first season and the episode that you saw, within the anime version of this show on crunchyroll and other streams, that exclusively, show anime, you will clearly see Ruby, use her Red Hood, it's just, coming towards the end of the show that you were watching, you can clearly see it. I advise, that you watch RWBY, anywhere except RUclips, you get a better experience, when it comes to the show, the original RUclips version of this show, everyone looks and moves like marionettes, everything that's been traditionally animated, everything is a lot smoother.
Think of it as a "Semblance of magic", not to be confused with actual magic.
Mercury and Emerald are based off of Hermes and Aladdin
Yeah, RWBY has a lot of setting up to do. Characters, enough world lore for the stakes to make sense, and so on. I think it does it really well, the sense of fun and creativity throughout the show carry you along, by I understand if you want the plot to start kicking in. And it will!

Fun facts time!;
The "Puma" joke between Emerald and Mercury is a reference to the 2nd episode of Rooster Teeths other big show, Red Vs Blue, which involved a similar argument about a car shaped like such.
Also, since team RWBY is clearly a reference to the color red, and team JNPR is a blue color, this fight is also a literal reference to the same show, Red Vs Blue.
"Semblance" was the word you were looking for to describe peoples powers there. Ruby's semblance enhances her speed to ridiculous levels. In this fight you also once again saw Blakes semblance, but hers has not been explicitly revealed as yet. See if you can figure it out! Goodwitch's was showed during the WoR video as telekinesis, though we saw in the very first episode she also uses dust to enhance her abilities and creates storms.
Also see if you can work out what characters the two new henchmen are based on, as well as their boss Cinder and Suns blue haired teammate (that one might be difficult until you see a bit more of him).
Also bear in mind what was said previously about aura; that it's a natural source of energy emitted by living things with souls, and that all their weapons and armor are conduits for aura. Welcome to Season 2. A somewhat higher budget this season means some cleaner models, cleaner fights, more professional VAs, and a world not populated by locked character models. What it doesn't get out of the budget is better writers, but you're not here for that. Enjoy season 2

The classic food fight
I’m glad you guys are excited to see more of the larger-evil supervillain, the main antagonist of the entire series: *Cinder Fall,* the same fire sorceress with the shadowed face from the very first episode and the Openings.
The text message Ozpin received in the last Volume: *“QUEEN HAS PAWNS”* refers to Cinder, and we see her with three of her many pawns (Roman, Emerald and Mercury) in the final scene of Volume 1 and the final scene of this chapter.
Cinder is a true threat to the world and extremely powerful and dangerous… and also happens to be my favourite character in the franchise. Given her actions throughout the series, it’s your reactions to those that I am the most excited for.
She certainly grabs your attention as a character and we look forward to seeing more of her 😈😁

Here's what I've noticed about this show, every weapon and weapon related thing, is have gun, in some way.
A couple of notes: the budget increased this year, the shadow people are gone. There’s actual NPCs.
The best food fight ever stemmed from a question Monty was asked about who would win an actual fight between RWBY and JNPR (the ability’s name is Semblance.) All the food used in the fight are replicas of actual weapons.
You should try to react to the intros the first time you see them instead of shutting them off, as they come at the end of each Chapter 1. By the way, slight nitpick: actual RWBY doesn’t have seasons, they’re called Volumes instead. The word season is reserved for something else. :)
