  • My Dad and I finally take out his old Fairmont speedster. This is a 1938 model. We were fortunate enough to be allowed to use the tracks at the Midland Railroad. These tracks go from Baldwin Kansas to Ottawa Kansas. We were fortunate enough to make it from Baldwin to Ottawa and back.

Couple of things, you most likley know by now. #1 run handles all the way back, not front, pick up the back with brake off and walk cart around. #2 Adjust throttle lower, and #3 before stopping and slowing down shift the belt into low speed setting while cart is still rolling. #4 Have fun.

of all the places for that engine to stall. at least you weren't quite in the middle of the road. that would be a nice little trip during the fall when the colors are more brilliant!

That was so interesting. Would love to hear the story behind it and how your dad obtained one along with how you were allowed to use the tracks. I've never seen one of these

Next time, bring a piece of conduit and short the wheels when you approach grade crossing.

Get someone who knows how to run the Fairmont to show you how to operate it. There is a procedure to reverse the rotation of the engine. You don't have to turn the speeder around physically.

I’m aware. However I wasn’t going to go backwards for 10 miles. Thanks for watching
