The Bedini circuit also provides back emf pulse of negative charge that can be dumped in a capacitor bank and fed back into the loop.

Nice video and good explanation. Bedini motors are good starting points for beginners. And you can extend them to create a mechanically switched boost converter using the flyback spike from the drive coil. It's a good way to teach students the difference between voltage and energy.
Instead of a bifilar coil, you can experiment with a separate fine-wire coil placed in the center the drive coil. Lots of fun projects here.

  • @exzentrische

What if you replace the resistor with adjusting resistor. So then with motor running, you can adjust best position for rpm.

The effect of the thin wire is to produce enough emf from the induced current to trigger the transistor. The thick wire won't be efficient because of its higher resistance.

  • @alchemy1

So the magnet passing the coil acts as generator turns the transistor on, sending current to the base of the npn

    • @alchemy1

@@ludicscience So this is a more direct way of describing the operation of sensorless BLDC drivers. In other words, the ones that don't use hall sensors? Instead of saying such terms as back EMF.
The only difference is, the sensorless bldc driver does start without help. So I would think that the magnet's back emf ( sending current) is used to show its location. In other words, it is doing what this experiment is doing, triggering the base/gate of some a transistor/mosfet or what have you.
When I use one of them drivers to run my make shift bldc motor, I typically need to give it a helping hand except once in a while. I guess it depends on its mood, temperature, humadity or what have you. Plus the motor is not exactly machine made to precision with an uneven airgap etc. And once in a while when it is just at the right spot, it runs like grape ape with only 5 V. Too fast for my comfort so I actually have to lower the voltage. And sometimes I have to really give it a helping hand and it still fights.

  • @Greg_Chase
    @Greg_Chase Год назад +2

If you cannot describe the physical details of a circuit, you should go back and learn what's necessary so that you understand it.
In your case, it's 100% clear that you fully know the operation because your explanation is clear, accurate and correct.
I taught STEM topics at UC Santa Cruz for five years and I discovered the following:
    1) when a topic is new to students, like all new knowledge, it requires effort to learn. Even if you explain it correctly, it takes effort to acquire the knowledge because it is new.
    2) if the experienced person decides "I'm not going to tell them everything they need to know - that will motivate them to work harder to understand! Besides, nobody helped me!"
A large percentage of yt videos use method (2). In some cases, it's because they do not understand what they have so they cannot explain it.
If you really want people to understand what you're trying to convey, the method you used to explain the Bedini motor is a model because holding back details does not motivate students. They are already facing the challenge of understanding something brand new to them.
I congratulate your effort, very good job. Nice build on the motor, too - thank you.

Yeah! Bedini "motor". I built 4 of them. About 10 years ago. BTW, you can use it to charge a big battery while depleting a smaller one (the run bat). Is it "Over-Unity"? Is this a big bat. really conventionally 'charged'. I will not discuss these kinda controversial considerations.
Guess what? With the DadHav very clever circuit you do not need a 'trigger coil. One coil is enough to run a pulse motor.
You also do not need any reed relay, any mechanical switch or whatever.
The few experimenters interested in this kinda stuff can consult :
"1 Coil Brushless Motor Driver (Multi-Phase)". (DadHav)
    ruclips.net/video/8b4xlCKn3LQ/видео.html
This circuit can be simplified (cut in half) but is very tricky to get it run.

It needs to be a good electrical conductor and not contain iron. I'd rule out steel wire. Good options are silver, gold, copper and aluminium. It needs to have an insulating coating (usually varnish) so that adjacent turns don't short circuit.

0:16 : you say wrong when you say "no commutator": there is a commutator: the transistor. It's an electronic not mechanical commutation, it's a simple and not double commutation: only off/on and not inversion of electrical polarities, but it's a commutation at all.
Only homopolar motor has the privilege of not having any commutation.
