She was 9 years old here. Just turn 9 i belive. She won Norway got talent when she was 8. Started the auditions when she was only 7. Not only is she singing this song she arranged it. At 9! She did not follow the original. Its actually far from it.
And yes she is bearfoot she always performs bearfoot. There is actually a really touching story behind it and she wrote a book about it called Mellom to hjerter (between two hearts) Youngest to ever publish a book in Norway at age 9.
I Agree its abit weird with kids in show biz especially when its the parents pushing them and they dont really want any of it. But this is all her. She actually asked her mom to put her on Norways got talent when she was 6 or 7. She got a good family and people around her so im not as worried about her as i might have been with someone else.
This girl is so mature for her age and really a role model and who kids should look up to instead of alot of these other "artist".
When she won Norways got talent she gave away her price money to charity (500 k Nok (Norwegian kroner) about 45k us dollars)

Im a hip hop head but since i was born in Norway and watched her when she did Norways got talent i was kinda blown away and been following her ever since. (For about 10 year now)
If you're going down the rabbit hole i suggest *Bohemian rhapsody * at Americans got talent the champions. (14 years old) She does her own rendition of it and its beautiful. Even Queen themselves tweeted on twitter "Wow, what a rendition" and gave her permission to record her version of the song.

Also I really need to read up middle east and just geography in general because i know so little. I googled what languages middle easterns speak and like 4 languages popped up. Nothing rang a bell for some reason... so i didn't wanna put something that wasn't right in there. Even tho i kinda knew.

Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on RUclips. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran.
Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.

At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old.
At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried.
Musicians working with Angelina would call her the boss since she knew exactly how she wanted to sing the song and would confidently instruct the musicians. While one could say Angelina was mimicking other artists, there is no doubt she had her own style and created her own arrangements, even at this early age.
Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition to trim the number of vocalists who passed their audition, and was not performed in front of an audience.
In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them.
In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists.
When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. The vast majority of the prize money was donated to charity benefitting poor children.
Record company executives flew their private jets to Norway to attempt to sign 8 year old Angelina but all were thankfully rebuked. Disney also made an offer but not accepted.
In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration.
Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore and Mexico among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14.
At age 11, Angelina recorded her “It’s Magic” album which has, at times, been in the top 10 best selling jazz albums. The album can be purchased on iTunes or Amazon.
On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year.
During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each.
In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter and allowed Angelina to copyright her version. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT which would give Simon any control over her career.
Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on RUclips. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her.
During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles.
In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one.
Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield”
In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song.

The best example of getting into the industry is how Angelina and her family are doing it.
Angelina is self taught. No vocal coach parents. At 2-3 years old Angelina's grandmother would listen to jazz, and Angelina became obsessed with looking up jazz performers on RUclips, and did very well singing along.

Angelina is Norwegian. Born and raised in Norway. Why does people always mention all of her heritage and not where she is from? If someone ask you where you are from, do you mention all of your heritage or just the country you are born and raised in? I’ve seen that in a lot of comments insteadof just writing she is Norwegian.

@@In_my_own_mind she speaks Norwegian because she was born there, speaks Farsi which is her Iranian grandmothers native tongue (she also spent time in Iran) speaks English like a native (lived in California for a short time) speaks some Japanese via her grandfather (her mother and uncle are 1/2 Japanese and both speak fluent Japanese and use to teach it) speaks some Swedish (her father is from Sweden) she is multicultural and all this would be missed if it was simply stated she was Norwegian.

Angelina is very close to her maternal grandmother, who is a well-known Iranian artist and a fan of jazz music, which Angelina listened to and began to explore on her own account before she was 2 years old. After listening on her tablet to artists she recognised from her grandma's collection, she would go on to select RUclips recommendations and soon became well versed in recordings made by legends of the jazz genre. When asked in 2013 who her musical influences were, 7-year-old Angelina cited Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Frank Sinatra, in other words artists whose heyday predated even her grandmother! All of this goes to what experts have termed her 'vintage' style.
She went on to enter 'Norway's Got Talent' as soon as she met the minimum age requirement and ultimately won a landslide victory by singing songs which were all first recorded at least 40 years before she was born. Even before she made the recording you just watched, viral videos of her NGT audition had led to Angelina being invited to make guest appearances on TV and radio in the US, South America, the UK, continental Europe and south-east Asia. Having turned down many potentially lucrative contract offers, including one from Disney, by the time she agreed to appear on the second series of 'America's Got Talent: The Champions', she had opened for Norah Jones in Korea, opened a Quincy Jones birthday concert in London, helped raise millions of dollars for charitable causes and released an album which would eventually knock Miles Davis off the #1 spot on the iTunes Jazz Album Top 100. The original was performed by "Screaming" Jay Hawkins in 1956 and she did the arrangement at the age of 9,she took the Screaming Jay version,which was Blues and put a Jazz spin on it and did the vocals in a more dynamic fashion. The reason she doesn't wear shoes,is because,when she was 6 she was vacationing with her family in the Middle East and ran into a little girl who was very poor and she struck up a conversation with girl,talking about their dreams and the poor girl didn't have shoes and was admiring Angelina's shoes and she took the shoes off her feet and gave them to the poor shoeless girl and vowed to perform barefoot till all kids had shoes.

Angelina's been singing since she was 18 MONTHS old! Her mother took a video of her singing in bed, with a microphone, after listening to her sing a Whitney Houston song from another room for a couple minutes. She grabbed the camera and started filming because she thought it was so cute. Angelina is TOTALLY self-taught. She tells the story of when she was 2 years old and she couldn't sleep one night, so she asked her mother if she could borrow her laptop to watch RUclips videos. She came across Billie Holiday's video of "Gloomy Sunday". She admits that, if it wasn't for Billie Holiday, there wouldn't be an Angelina Jordan. She's basically been a star since she was 7 years old. She started trying to sing at the age of 1 1/2 years old. First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Her early influences are Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Etta James to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. In 2014, she entered at age 7 and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. With her new found fame, she used it to appear on many shows from abroad and help raise millions for the less fortunate children around the world. At age 13, she was invited to participate on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020. She shocked the audience and the judges with her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. She received a standing ovation from all and got the Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum to go straight to the Finals. Her performance went viral and even the group Queen responded on Twitter by saying, " Wow, what a rendition!" Not sure about the sax and other stringed instruments. She plays guitar and piano in some of her videos. Regarding flute and violin, these may be instruments that she studied in her music school but I don’t think she plays them now.
I love Angelina but I’m not sure she plays all those instruments.

Why does Angelina sing barefoot? The answer may bring a tear to your eye. It is related to a promise she made to herself and to the world when she was only 6 years old. She was traveling in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own favorite shoes. Angelina ask the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and she said a doctor, but she could not because she had to take care of her siblings. She asked Angelina the same question and Angelina said I want to sing for the world. The young girl said she would pray for Angelina. Since then, Angelia has forever performed barefoot as a reminder of all those less fortunate. At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, Between two Hearts, becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway. She also has helped raise millions for children's charities. She even donated her winnings from Norway's Got Talent to charities. She is a special individual, and one you cannot follow without developing an emotional bond.

The original is 1956 "Screaming" Jay Hawkins. That is what the candle shows, though it goes by quickly. She recorded this at age 9 and it is her own arrangement based on the original. This blew me away when I first heard it. I kept playing it over. This was AFTER she auditioned for and won Norway's Got Talent at age 7/8. Seriously. Her audition piece was the Billie Holiday version of "Gloomy Sunday." Creedence did cover this. Nina Simone is a cover. You do need to hear the 1956 Screaming Jay Hawkins original---it will show you the musicality she applied to her arrangement. She once said the song was about "a desperate love." Angelina speaks three languages at the time of this video: Norwegian, Farsi, and English. Probably some Japanese. Her father is Swedish. Angelina was born and grew up in (mostly) Oslo. She does have family in California and is now, in 2023 at age 17, living in LA with her family for the sake of her career. Her family insisted on as normal a childhood as possible, with an insistence on completing school. He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. If you delve any deeper into this child’s career, you will notice there is something very strange about her. She never gets nervous and talks about children as if she is not one of them. That’s because she is a Cosmic Avatar which explains who and what she is perfectly. No need to worry about her. Although she's still a minor, she got like 10 years of experience already, she's used to singing in front of thousands if not millions of people (e.g. FIFA awards). Many things have happened to her live on stage, be it voice cracks or performing hoarse due to a cold,... doesn't matter, people still love her and support her, especially her family. Her music label grants her artistic freedom. At this point she's "too big to fail".

She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.
If you thought Ren's rabbit hole was huge ( which of course it is and amazing ) Angelina's is 200 plus and they are all Classic's in their own way. Her self penned video version of Million Miles is stunning, her latest itunes smash Love Don't Let Me Go also self penned now 17 years old shows maturity like no other. Angelina is largely self-taught - her family are not professional musicians or singers- the only vocal training she has had is how to protect her voice - However, she does have training in piano, guitar, music theory, and writing. She writes her own vocal arrangements and has been singing professionally since age 8.
You can't teach it, you can't learn it. This is more than talent, it's a blessing, it's supernatural, and you guys ain't seen nothing yet. Angelina will blow your mind all the way to present.
The story was she felt sorry for a person she saw shoeless, took off her own immediately & gave them. She now performs shoeless, & may have further shoe programs.
Angelina is mostly self taught. No singers or musicians in her family. She started studying the jazz greats on RUclips at about 2 or 3 after her Grandmother introduced her to jazz.
Her only vocal training from what I understand was just to help her protect her voice.
I've been enjoying your Ren reactions. Something you said about him recently made me think of Angelina Jordan. Ren is currently holding my attention in the way Angelina has for the last three years. She has the ability to surprise, time after time, just like Ren.
Actually, English is Angelina's 3rd language and she's an amazingly talented young lady. A true child prodigy.
Nice one guys. This is pure raw talent...not trained, she is a music genius since birth. Has attended a music school in Norway but the coaches decided to leave her voice alone though she has studied music theory. She was exposed to Jazz music as a toddler by her Grandma and has absorbed all the nuances and technical skills of Jazz by listening....she has superb ears for music.. Nice reaction to a vocal tour-de-force! But there's no music in her family..it's inside of her! You've done it now. You have fallen into the vortex of Angelina Jordan who arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (160+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and Gershwin. It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Michael Jackson to Etta James to James Brown to Amy Winehouse to the Beatles (and many others in between) and do them all justice!
If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. She will stagger you with her ability to find and bring forth the 'essence', the emotional message of nearly any song. You have far to go with Angelina. She is equally comfortable and equally able to impact us whether singing a cappella, accompanied only by a piano or guitar, in front of professional studio musicians or a 40-piece military band. With her immense vocal toolkit, arranging ability (yeah, that too, since about 8yo or so) and the work ethic to make what she does only 'seem' effortless, she will hopefully be touching hearts for a long time to come.
Why God has performed the miracle of touching the world with one of such talent, musical IQ, commitment, and generosity as Angelina we can wonder but we must all marvel. Welcome aboard the AJ train! It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this!
"I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne-type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video).
You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). @@I_scribbles Ok, I can roll with that. I'd say some specific techniques she is employing here were learned by listening to others and trying to repeat it, but generally not much of a disagreement between us.
@stranger2Utube no, more like difference in interpretation. I was more thinking more of singing. Take the song, Funny Valentine, when younger she sung it in a certain way where parts were not up to bar but AJ didnt worry, but it wasnt until 1.5 years ago when she sung it at the shop that we could hear what she heard in her head long ago. I tell people AJ has a dozen aces up both her sleeves, and we haven't seen or heard anything yet. Much like people are not going to handle "adult" Angelina.
I also remind them that she has herself stated that she doesn't feel like a kid, so people need to prepare. Luckily, she has a level of class and elegance, not seen in decades.
