Cause people have the unrealistic belief that romance (and entire relationships) should always have the butterflies in the stomach, too nervous to say anything feelings at all times. And if you don't feel that at all times, you aren't in love
“This isn’t an episode about AJ’s parents, it’s an episode about AJ’s mother.” Well, when you put it THAT way, I can see some redeeming qualities here.
(I ended up forgeting their names) Let's be honest The only reason Pear had to be the one with an unapologetically cruel parent while Apple got off with a slap on the wrist is because the writers didn't want to make Granny Smith the bad guy
I first saw the clip of pear butter and Ms Cake Baki g together without any context and I actually believe that Ms Cake had a crush on Pear when she was carrying the cake for her
You know, I just realized you could totally have the story be from the Apple parents' point of view to show more actual interaction AND still go with the dead parents and tree ending. How? Reframe the episode so Applejack found her mom's diary or something. It'd have been that easy to give a bit more internal insight and still keep their dead parents and nice ending setpiece. Also, make both of them had to sacrifice something: have BOTH sets of family disown them so it WAS a meaningful decision on both sides, only for the Apple side to give in and apologize/welcome them back after the fact, while the Pear side stayed stubborn. That way it's not that Appledad didn't have to give up anything; he DID, it's just that the Apple family realized "oh god, what have we done" and atoned.
I remember reviewing this episode with the same veil everyone else was wearing, thinking it was a developed and nuanced relationship. It wasn't until I went through that "one person gives up everything while the other gives up nothing" kind of relationship myself that I realized I was, in fact, wearing that veil. I can't wait to redo that review.
I think the reason why “romances” like these keep happening is because people realize they don’t have to actually try writing chemistry between the two love interests if they’re straight. Because we’re so used to seeing any sort of positive interaction between a man and a woman as romance, we’ll automatically assume that the romance is there and good because that’s what media has been trying to convince us our whole lives.
I agree fictional romance is largely, if not almost entirely, built upon priming (especially with a romance with less than 20 minutes of screentime). But I'm not so sure I agree that this is limited to straight couples, considering this fandom will romantically ship practically any two characters that have positive interactions even if the romance isn't intended. And most of the ships of this show are of course gay ships. People just see romance in things because they're desperate for a love story, gay or straight isn't a huge factor.
I didn't think it was a revolutionary episode, And I definitely didn't think they had the best relationship in the show. But I did like the episode. I just thought it was a cute story with a cute song.
I enjoyed the episode a lot more when I watched it as a Granny Smith episode. The interesting thing about hearing stories from an elder's perspective is that you can easily recognize in hindsight the direct consequences of the choices they've made and how those choices have defined their life, whether the person intended them to or not. Lame as the love story was, if you view it not as the focus of the episode, but rather as a vehicle from which we can observe the mistakes Granny Smith has made and ending with her getting closure to those mistakes, the episode feels (at least to me) like it has more reason to exist.
I agree the romance wasn't as good as it could have/should have been, but I also don't think that was the real point of the episode, or at least, it's not where the emotional core is supposed to be. The Perfect Pears emotional center comes from Grand Pear reconnecting with his family; The family he disowned and had a rivalry with for years, the family he never wanted to get to know. It's more about Grand Pear seeking forgiveness and getting to know his own grandchildren, the oldest of which has to be at least 16/18 by now. He's missed out on so much of the family that he could have known, instead of the daughter he disowned and left behind.
Yeah, well, there's just one problem with that. Nobody paid attention to that part. Everyone paid attention to "OH EM GEE, We got Backstory for Applejack's Dead Parents! 10/10!!" And that's what Lily is criticizing.
THANK YOU! People don't think about that enough. Grand Pear disowned his own daughter, and never saw her again before she died. That is very dark, and very tragic, and I'm sure that happening is why he came to Ponyvile in the first place. Imagine disowning or leaving your kid, and that's all they get to remember you by before losing their life. I don't blame him for having such guilt and wanting to give the Apple family a chance. It's not just an episode about seeing AJs parents go through a cliche love story, it's also about moving on and making up for your past mistakes
Thank you for putting out a message about how you shouldn't put up with abusive family members. This helped me contextualize my experience with my abusive family and how my sibling reacted to it when I was 15, and just now I got out of an emotionally taxing discussion with one of said abusive family members and I'm listening to this for comfort. Thank you
where was the abuse in the episode tho. so annoying when fans of mlp look for something deeper in an episode that isnt actually there. there isnt going to be themes of abuse in a show called fucking my little pony
For years, I always had trouble understanding what people mean when they say a character is "boring." But I think I finally get it now. If we were to replace said character with a different, generically-designed character that said and did all the same things of the previous character, then would we think "character 2 reminds me of character 1?" I see what you mean with this couple. If we replaced them with new characters (say, anthropomorphic rabbits and put them in a different show) and put them through similar situations (met and fell for each other as kids, sapphic moments, and parents not wanting them to be together), no one would say that that couple reminds them of Pear Butter and Bright Mac. They'd say it reminds them of Romeo and Juliet or Westside Story. There's nothing unique about this couple.
Honestly, Pear Butter deserved better than Big Mac. His family hates her, her family hates him, but why was she the only one who had to make any sacrifices in their relationship?
@ I'll admit I wouldn't know that since I haven't seen all of the episodes. Either way, cause the plot says so is what I think when bs writing pops up in general.
While I don't always agree with what she says, Lily always is able to lay out her thoughts and observations really well! Thats not exactly something you see with other critics who literally just devolve to screaming negative things about stuff with literally no substance. So its cool to see someone who doesn't do that!
They wouldn’t of even had to make it in present time when the parents tell their story. They could’ve made it a fucking flash back or apple jack telling the small one their story through memory’s of the parents telling her and the big one. Fuck
Might want a chair, this is a long comment on how I think the episode could have gone instead, borrowing some ideas from Aleisha Pyralspite's comment. At the start, instead of having the three get curious about the feud, granny could have found the Pear Jam apple bloom got from grandpa pear, gotten upset, and sent apple bloom up to her room. Bored, Apple Bloom rolls off her bed onto the floor, and notices a panel on the floor underneath she hadn't noticed before. Inside, she finds Pear Butter's journal, but keeps it hidden until she can show it to AppleJack and Bic Mac. Later they start reading it together, so its told from Pear Butter's point of view. That cuts off around four minutes of them talking to their parents friends that could be filled with more of bright mac and pear butter having stuff in common. The apple kids of course still react to the story at points, but keep the grand majority dedicated to showing why Bright Mac and Pear Butter are the perfect pair. At some point, maybe not right off the bat, have the two talk and mention how Pear Butter's mom and Bright mac's dad are gone and the importance of family to both of them to help establish why they don't just run away from their families together and give them another thing to bond over. To give them more in common, definitely add in bright mac trying his best to help with the one baking scene with Mrs cake, but then also have another scene where bright mac teaches pear butter how to do one of his hobbies in return. Both of them fail at trying the other's hobby, but they have fun doing them together and promise to meet up and do it again, even after the grandparents catch them and split them up. Maybe have her get interested in trying to race him while tilling after watching him and his friend do it, but she accidentally knocks over the water tower and Bright Mac takes the blame for her when grandpa pear finds out. As a thank you gift, Pear Butter sets up a picnic for the two of them and brings her guitar as a setup for the song. Before "In my Head like a catchy song" starts, cut out most of the nth anniversary stuff and replace it with maybe a mention of how long they have been together, but mostly Pear Butter trying to show him how to play the guitar, then have her start playing the first half of the song. After the first title drop, it cuts to Bright mac asking to give it a try, warning her that its not going to be nearly as good as her playing. She laughs and gives him the guitar, assuring him that he will be great. For the remaining half of the song, Bright Mac sings and the guitar music itself is a bit simpler than Pear Butter's part since he is not as good at playing as she is (the visuals are them doing activities together, showing improvement in the previous highlighted hobbies, or sneakily helping each other with chores while the grandparents keep catching them and trying to separate them. Cut out most of the goo goo eyes and the grandparents yelling at each other) In the last few moments of the song, they carve their cutie marks into the rock together and it fades to black with, only to abruptly come back to grandpa pear telling pear butter that they are moving. Everything after goes as usual up to the marriage, except Bright Mac also leaves the apples to be with pear butter. Granny Smith later finds them and remarks on how they really were the perfect pair and apologizes, admitting that she was wrong in trying to separate them and that she doesn't want to lose her son over a petty feud. She invites them back to the apple family and they accept. Then the story is finished, and everything continues as normal with meeting grandpa pear and visiting the tree.
Honest to God, THIS should've been how the episode played out! The end result is ok in some parts and meh at others. But what you said(as well as what the OG person mentioned too) would've made this episode a little better to watch
While I always asummed they were dead too, I coul care less if the writters decided to say "Nop, they were alive all along" and go with it. Considering they've been pulling family members out of thin air since season two. But yes, the episode sucks. Can't imagine people calling it the best episode of the show.
The idea of “sugarcoated” romance is much more liked than the reality of romance, that’s why Pear Butter and Big Mac are praised. Their relationship is shown as a sugarcoated romance rather than a reality romance
For those in the approval queue going "wHy CAnT lOVe STorIEs jUSt bE sIMPle?!?!?!?!?!?!1?" bear in mind I was saying that they needed ONE scene of them bonding over something other than their own relationship, like Pear Butter had with Mrs Cake. One scene, of which a mirror was already present. One. If that's too complex for you, then that's clearly a problem with you and you should probably seek government assistance.
Only after you seek an anger managment classes and your heterophobia. Hetero couple produce you, I guess they deeply ashamed of that fact enough, you don't have to rub it in even more.
@@suonnagan123 HETEROPHOBIA??? LMFAO, get over yourself. There's no such thing as heterophobia, straight people have NEVER faced oppression and abuse for being straight. You are just delusional.
I have a feeling like if we just had Applejack tell the story then we can just assume that you know that her parents. Told her before they pass this would preserve continuity and do the exact same thing without angering any of the fans
Heck, you didn't even have to bring them back for them to tell the story. Have Granny Smith keep dodging the question, then have Applejack find a letter to the apple children by Brightmac and Pearbutter that had been kept from them.
It’s funny, I used to be in a relationship with someone who really liked this episode and compared us to Pear Butter and Bright Mac. Conveniently enough, that relationship consisted of me having to put in all the work, make all of the sacrifices and choose sides while they stood on the sidelines being an abusive prick and doing fuck all to change. I don’t trust people who like this episode anymore.
The point about Pear Butter being the star of the show is exactly the reason I latched onto her and ship her with Night Light/Twilight Velvet instead. Pearlight Velvet forever! This video is the good food, amazing job as always and I’m happy to have a link to an explanation whenever someone asks me why I don’t care about Bright Mac! Also I love the title of this episode so much it makes me giggle ;3
i think the bronies where just happy they finally got to see the apple parent and autoaticly deemed the episode awesome, sure it was nice to finally get to see them but i didn't go head over heels over it.
Bronies think that a toxic relationship is good? Are you surprised, Lilly? These are the same people who think that Joker and Harlequin have a model relationship when he abuses her in every way fashionable you can't blame toxic people for being toxic (tongue in cheek comment there). It is a reflection of them and like Donald Trump fans, they love it.
Hey Lily, love your work. It means a lot, especially as I am discovering that I am Trans. Your videos really have helped me explore a part of myself. Thank you. Deeply and truly. Also, I am sorry Lizzie hurt you. I don't know what else to say but as someone who has been through a few abusive relationships, I understand. Hugs.
Thank you Lily. Now I know what to do and not to do when I tell my characters parents backstory. While I kinda like the episode, I feel it could've been done more.
I feel the same way about Oshi No Ko. The entire story is built on the mystery of Ai Hoshino and who her baby daddy is, when it could have easily been about them as main characters instead of human McMuffins.
Het romance at this point seems to skate by on the visual trappings alone... This could have been better if Applebloom had come to her siblings asking about their parents because she was too small to remember much. I really didn't buy the portrayal of Big Mac and Applejack not knowing this stuff, and that could have let us see their parents together after the wedding; then we could go to their friends to learn why they never talked about the time beforehand. That could've resulted in more characterization, and still had the severed ties that Pearbutter was forced to choose. They could've maintained the grandpa thread by having Applejack act reminiscent instead of terrified by the gift, prompting Applebloom to ask questions... So much lost potential... It was weak, cute, but weak... Imo the pacing was a bit off too, but that may be a just me thing there.
I always thought that Applejack's parents were deadbeats who never wanted her, Applebloom, or Big Mac so they left. Bit dark but...eh, more interesting than the episode I guess :P
Rainbow Dash's and Twilight Sparkle's hair look like walking Pride and Bisexual flags, yet Rainbow could not get a canon openly gay relationship. S u b t l e t y amIright?
This episode isn't supposed to be about how they died or really bring up they died in the flash backs. It's more about the beginning and not the end. This episode is not perfect but it's still not a BAD episode. also don't mind this comment it might be dumb I don't know
im pretty sure the teenage model they used for pear butter is the same model they used for fluttershy way back in season 1 and isnt a new model, just seems new because they rarely use it, unlike big macs model
ikr like,, I used to watch it but I never got passed season 5 cus its not on Netflix here- and im just here watching rants on episodes I haven't watched.
I still find this episode way better than The Last Crusade. I will never stop being bitter/disappointed in the show writers for throwing that episode at us just to crush any theories or headcanons that Scootaloo is an orphan (or at least isn't raised by her parents). It would've been SO much better to just leave it off at her being watched by her aunts and nothing more. They didn't need to give her parents who are nothing but poorly attempted cameos of the Alligator Man and his wife.
I'm just gonna pretend the episode doesn't exist lol. Cross it right off my list, but because I feel no connection to her parents, and the plot is so predictable too
I give them an A for effort, but a B- for execution. If they change the few things about it, such as either making it a gay relationship or having one of them turn out to be transgender and that's why they were gone and the story is actually told by them, I think I would like it more.
She didn't actually mean it would be good if it was gay. She just meant that she thought Buttercup had more relationship development with Mrs Cake than with with Bright Mac.
I don't think it's the best episode is this one. I'm not even sure if I would agree to any other episode, but I still think I was very good. Furthermore, I can agree to some points about the apple family side, but still I find saying "oh it's all those freaking hetero people, ueh!" to be very cringe and kinda unsettling. Honestly, I don't really care about your political sights or opinions on sexual orientations. I really love your work as a content creator and critic, but sometimes you really get on the creepy side.
no literally. it was a sweet heartwarming episode in a sweet heartwarming show. the show has millions of bad episodes because its targeted at 8 year olds. why focus on one that was really sweet?
"Unless the parent is abusive, there is literally nothing stoping them for disregarding the punishment entirely"-I'm sorry, but that is a huge flag right here.Of course, you don't beat your kid no matter the age, but sometimes, punishment and discipline is necessary.
This is why it's important to pay attention. Because I didn't say punishment wasn't necessary. What I said was "Your kid can always just disregard your punishment, and unless you ARE abusive, there isn't much you can really do about it." Please pay attention to what is actually being said, you dumbass
@@LilianOrchard Scenario:your teenage daughter wants to run from home with a guy you consider suspicious. What do you actually do in this situation?what is considered abusive and what not here?I'm genuinely curious
You're completely missing what is actually being said. You heard "Punishment" and "abusive" and turned off your brain. Don't give hypotheticals until you understand what was actually said.
@@CyberWarezz05 if your teenage daughter genuinely wants to run away from home, you have already fucked up badly as a parent. and punitive methods don't WORK as a way of building well-adjusted adults. if you want an abused, angry, repressed little yes-man for a kid, who falls apart the second they're independent from your regime, then sure, rely on punishment and restrictive discipline. but there are many, many ways to discipline a child that doesn't involve much reliance on punishment. in fact a key component of discipline (ACTUAL discipline, not whatever definition your drill sergeant parents gave you) is that it is INTERNAL. it comes from the self. building a relationship of mutual respect with a child, leading by example, teaching them how their actions affect others and themselves, and taking responsibility for your own fuckups as a roadmap for them, all of these are extremely effective at cultivating discipline in children and NONE of them are punitive. generally, if a child is fucking up so royally in your strawman examples that extremely punitive methods might be seen as a necessary last resort, the parent has ALREADY FUCKED UP and probably hurt the child very badly or otherwise totally failed to raise them.
@@valentiniamande119 when someone misses the point THAT badly and puts up such a disingenuous strawman as a response, i think calling them a dumbass is generous lol. i'd have guessed malice rather than a failure to pay attention. lily is not under any obligation to engage with someone who is arguing with a point she literally did not make... just let them keep talking to the air.
A thirteen minute essay about a poorly written love story in a show for people who just moved on from Dora the Explorer..? You realize that by talking about shows for the youngest children, you draw in a viewership that's really quite young. And your toxic approach to analyzing things based on your own personal baggage is affecting the way they approach content. You may think that's a good thing, but there is a reason young people are exposed to certain things at certain ages. An 8 year old shouldn't be thought about the finer details of sex, and a 10 year old doesn't need to know the ins and outs of fascism. Either watch and review content designed for adults, so you can be vitriolic about adult content. Or be less toxic about things designed for children.
Oh right, I forgot..You're probably going to call me a nazi and then block the comment.. I hope you at least read it first! No one else has to, it's not for them. But you should. You seem like a clever person with something to say. You're just saying it in a poor way using material as examples that's unfit for the message.
Since you seem to be new here and a complete doucheie dumbass, she is mainly addressing the adult brony views. She even talks about headcanons, lore, and other content I’m pretty sure only addresses the adult viewers. Next time watch the video, learn something, and act like an actual human and not a bloody piss tumor.
@@SoraTheMye So, if I understand your comment correctly, an adult brony is trying to insult me by calling me a "bloody piss tumor". An insult that definitely seems very mature and also shows how you have no concept of what a tumor is..? If the tumor is in your urine, that's probably the best kind of tumor to have. Even if it does come out with a little blood. It's essentially just a kidney stone. It's complete nonsense as it doesn't exist, because tumors are living cells and there are none in your urine... So you're calling me a theoretical concept of a tumor that can't exist, but if it would, would have been the best kind of tumor to get. I'm not sure if you're really of a maturity, or at least intellectual maturity, to really take seriously on anything other than counting to 5. (It's how many fingers are on your left hand :D I figured I'd point that out to you because I'm genuinely uncertain if you'd figure that out by yourself!) But at the very least you're very much proving my point that her viewership has very young children in it that are adopting a very toxic outlook.
Wouter Dekker 1. Not a brony. I just watching all of their stupidity and love a good queen, aka lily, tearing apart their stupid shite. 2. You really are trying to analyze an insult to such a medically degree because you cannot handle being called it? Lol you are pathetic 3. I’m irish. We curse and we insult people. Doesn’t make me less mature. 4. She addresses in multiple of her videos that she isn’t talking to children. She actually likes the show for teaching good stuff to children. She is addressing idiots who call children shows “deep” and “meaningful” but actually can’t take basic criticism when they are told that their ideas on the show are bad and that the lessons it’s teaching to kids may be bad too. She has multiple points in this video on how the adult viewers are trying to say it is the best episode ever simply because the episode shows the fandom headcanon of applejack’s parents being dead and that if holds “the best love story in the show”. She then goes on to say how that idea of the dead parents actually made the episode worse and how the relationship isn’t even that developed or good. Please watch the videos and learn something so I don’t have to keep listening to your bullshite.
Wouter Dekker And I’m gonna add another reply because I think there is a bit more to her videos than just toxic mindsets being put into children. When she isn’t addressing the dumb ideas of the ADULT viewers of a show like this video, the On your Marx video, or the Abandon Ship video She is addressing the writing of the show itself like in The Punitive Damages video or the Bismuth As Usual Video when they might have things that can be unhealthy for children and/or adults to watch and have writing that can be improved on. She also has done some videos that I honestly could’ve really used when I was younger which would be the Wank On Wank Off video and the Violence Is Golden video since she told me two things I really needed ever since my middle school days. The first video addressed abuse and how you shouldn’t be forced to forgive them because they are your family and the second was how violence can be an answer when all other options have failed and that you shouldn’t feel “morally wrong” for self defense. When I watched them I actually cried because she lifted up so much gilt and self hatred I had to myself for thinking I was wrong for defending myself and hating my abusers. She also has videos on darker topics that address really big issues such as Blame And Groom videos and the MLP Con video. While not every video is for younger kids, which is understandable, I absolutely believe that those who are mentally old enough to understand what she is saying should if they want to. She talks about these shows because many of them have themes and lessons in them for children to learn and sometimes they are good and sometimes they are bad. But the shows also have adult audiences because they have different attributes that make them appealing, such as story, the animation, or even just the wacky fun. That’s why she makes videos for both audiences but isn’t really geared towards those under 12 or so,since they probably wouldn’t be watching them anyway. She addresses so much that needs to be heard.
Bruh leave Applejack’s parents alone, if they were gay then we wouldn’t have applejack. Why do you hate heteros I’m so confused. And they’re dead. Leave them alone
LovelyWater Art She doesn’t necessarily hate Hereros just criticizing a bland relationship, which unfortunately is what most straight relationships are. Just because a character is dead doesn’t mean that can’t be criticized.
@@faithdanielle8933 I'm pretty sure if there were more gay pairings, most of them would be just as bland. It's not because it's heterosexual. It's just a case of poor writing.
I suppose I agree with what you all are saying but after rewatching the episode I don’t think that their RELATIONSHIP is poorly written, I think that bright Mac is poorly written. I feel like we get to know and sympathize with buttercup a lot more, we see her reaction to them moving (and not bright macs) and we learn a lot more of her personality than his. Bright macs scene with burnt oak seems cut short and weirdly written to me
Actually Lilly making characters gay is bad look at voltron shiro was revealed to be gay and the creators introduced Adam shiros boyfriend who broke up with shiro because he was worried about shiros heath which could have been interesting to explore but nope they hyped up Adam and we spend a minute with him and he dies so making everything gay is bad
@@nicholasrodinos4701 While I disagree with you about Krolia and the wolf, I do agree that creators could have at least worked in subtle hits at Shiro being gay. Small things like Shrio murmuring Adam's name while healing in the pod, or having him and Keith talk in the background and you overheard Adam being mentioned. Or, shoot, have Shiro blush at meeting a male alien that sorta looks like his ex. Simple easy things like that sprinkled throughout the series would have been far better than just going six whole seasons with nothing than suddenly a split second reveal for those representative brownie points.
@@nicholasrodinos4701 I disagree. Subtlety, when done correctly, can go a long way in a show. It's just a matter of sticking to your guns and going through with your idea instead of allowing others to influence it.
@@newcollector agreed, though sometimes I want to scream that studios and authors and whatever are banned from subtle sexual orientation for the next decade just to force everyone to show their true colours - are they going to actually follow through with their supposed progressiveness and write non-hetero characters who are undeniably so, or go on putting a boy and a girl together in any situation and calling it romantic? I'd love to trust the paid Creators of fiction media to try that sort of build up to revealing an existing relationship, but at this point everyones got good reason NOT to trust then to use the 'subtle' approach as anything but an excuse to do nothing then, to quote another video of Lilys, shout "LGBT REPRESENTATION" just before slamming the door closed behind them. The problem with the option to make it 'subtle' is that it inherently implies anything blatant has to come later, that on paper it's not unreasonable to wait until the end to do a big reveal, when really that's ALL thats done with it at the very last second Looking at you Legend of Korra
@@pipedream2556 The sad thing is... It's pretty easy to write an LGBT character without flanderizing them *cough* Shera and the Princesses of Power *cough* You just write them the same way to do a Hetero couple. Heck, even Steven Universe Future pulled off Subtly with Bismuth when she accompanied Steven, Connie, and Peal to the roller rink, and that show was full of LGBT representation.
@@nicholasrodinos4701 Hardly. The way I see it, this "representation" with the "spirit" of an old childhood classic was nothing more than a poorly thought out shipping platform. None of the main characters really developed over the series and to just throw in a bunch last-minute pairings, however obvious some of them were, doesn't make for good real-world representation. Literally, the only ones I saw coming were: Glimmer x Bow, Hordax x Entrapta, and Mermista x Seahawk. 1.) G & B because of Glimmer's childish behavior towards Bow either hanging out with someone other than her or when he acts in a way she isn't familiar with. Plus the fact that Bow wouldn't leave Glimmer's side for nothing when she was glitching and was far more tolerant with her mood swings than anyone else. 2.) H & E because of the way Hordax looked at Entrapta when she gave that little speech about how she viewed imperfections as beautiful and how Entrapta was actually able to keep her focus and be fully aware of Hordak's needs and moods, unlike literally anyone else around her. 3.)M & S because it was mentioned that they knew each other as kids. Seahawk made it pretty obvious he'd do anything for that aquatic teen girl stereotype. And Mermista taught him how to speak to seagalls, which meant spending a lot of time together and being patient with him since it is a language in that universe. The groundwork was there and could be easily interpreted without mistaking it for something else. Not at all with Adora or Catra. Never once did I saw Adora so much as blush at anyone, especially not Catra, because as you pointed out, they spent the majority of their time trying to take the other out. The only time I saw Catra looked awe-struck at anyone was Scorpia that one time in the artic when she saved her from her own folly. And the only time I ever saw Catra really enjoy her time with somebody was Double Trouble. I mean the guy got her to actually laugh, for crying out loud. Adora literally showed no signs of being romantically interested in anyone. She never felt guilty or regret over leaving anyone in the Horde and didn't even blink when she chose to ignore the fact that she was, in fact, friends with her old squad when Lani called her out. No, I don't count the more peaceful interactions with Catra because, from the memories shown in the show, it coded Catra more like a girl who's older sister and best/only real friend broke her promise to her. The writers may have been trying to lead up to the ship, but they did a really poor job of it since at this point it only looks like, throughout the course of 5 years, it was a one-sided attraction since only Catra was seen being effected by Adora's actions. If anything it represents how unrequited love can affect a person in all the wrong ways.
Wait people think this was the best developed romantic relationship in the series? Shining Armor and Princess Cadence are right there.

That's it give this person a job writing the script
PREACH
Same, I didn't hate the ep, but I wouldn't called a pefect ep either. Though I do see this working more if it were an LGBT+ couple.
@@alyssabullock6421 the thing is nobody cares about that part,,, they're just obsessing over the romance
If we were to replace said character with a different, generically-designed character that said and did all the same things of the previous character, then would we think "character 2 reminds me of character 1?"
I see what you mean with this couple.
Because the plot says so. That’s what I always think when I come across dumb writing.
@ I'll admit I wouldn't know that since I haven't seen all of the episodes. Either way, cause the plot says so is what I think when bs writing pops up in general.
@ (What is that dialogue there?)
While I don't always agree with what she says, Lily always is able to lay out her thoughts and observations really well! Thats not exactly something you see with other critics who literally just devolve to screaming negative things about stuff with literally no substance. So its cool to see someone who doesn't do that!
lmao nice retcon rebecca
it is either the coma theory or ho-oh gave ash immortality
That's a beautiful script
They could've had the parents dead but have applejack tell the story that she was told as a foul to AppleBloom
Idk
Lizzie was abusive?! Oh geez...
I mean its cute but cadence and shining armor were cuter and they have the cutest baboo
Hugs.

Ok now that this has been explained, I think the best romantic episode would be the episode before this episode.

What I said was "Your kid can always just disregard your punishment, and unless you ARE abusive, there isn't much you can really do about it."
Please pay attention to what is actually being said, you dumbass

@@SoraTheMye
So, if I understand your comment correctly, an adult brony is trying to insult me by calling me a "bloody piss tumor".
(It's how many fingers are on your left hand :D I figured I'd point that out to you because I'm genuinely uncertain if you'd figure that out by yourself!)
But at the very least you're very much proving my point that her viewership has very young children in it that are adopting a very toxic outlook.
Wouter Dekker 1. Not a brony. I just watching all of their stupidity and love a good queen, aka lily, tearing apart their stupid shite.
2. You really are trying to analyze an insult to such a medically degree because you cannot handle being called it? Lol you are pathetic
Wouter Dekker
And I’m gonna add another reply because I think there is a bit more to her videos than just toxic mindsets being put into children.
Wither Slayer-73 Exactly. Most straight pairings are poorly written.
I suppose I agree with what you all are saying but after rewatching the episode I don’t think that their RELATIONSHIP is poorly written, I think that bright Mac is poorly written.
The problem with the option to make it 'subtle' is that it inherently implies anything blatant has to come later, that on paper it's not unreasonable to wait until the end to do a big reveal, when really that's ALL thats done with it at the very last second

@@pipedream2556 The sad thing is...
Literally, the only ones I saw coming were: Glimmer x Bow,
Hordax x Entrapta, and
Mermista x Seahawk.
