Yeah Cornwall is where I was thinking of. A lot of the roads are only just wide enough for one car and then have a few wider passing places that you have to reverse into if a car comes towards you.
I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this, thanks for sharing. You would have a heart-attack driving the English lanes where I live. I know the USA is a big place but I've passed through much of it and most people have been kind. You too sound like kind people. I hope you enjoyed your stay, and please find some way to forgive those who're unkind in their comments; it's an internet thing, the web just makes some people sick you know.
That road is a pretty luxurious country lane. It's very common to find yourself driving down one half as wide with twists every 20 metres, you then have that awkward mount of the hedge when you come head to head. Then someone decides to make it a bus route!
As someone who passed their driving test in England 1964 I find driving on roads I don't know quite confusing and manage to get lost even with a sat Nav. You guys look like your doing really well.
When you get used to it you realise that you don't have to pull off the road to pass cars. There's a physical phenomenon in which the presence of two cars travelling in opposite directions causes a minor gravitational field which actually expands space slightly and they can fit through. It's never been explained before and its amazing when it happens but it does indeed work.
+thezulucow Also, I grew up round there and those roads are great for both driving round and cycling. I went to school in Ramsgate which was on the sign at the end.
the entire lane would have probably been national speed limit, the best thing is that national speed limit in the 60s or sometime similar use to mean unrestricted speed limit. so you could imagine cars going down there or attempting to go faster then the 60 limit
The sign you saw that you thought was telling you of a one way road, was actually just warning you that the road narrows ahead. You seemed to be doing fine though. I hope you enjoyed your stay in my country.
tonybuk70 and “fixing to end up in the bushes” made me smile. I am a Yorkshireman and had the pleasure of living in South Carolina for 2 years. Y’all have a great day!
Well played guys from a Brit resident. Fascinating to hear you and see what you thought of our weird little island. You took the drive nice and gentle and showed some real road manners. Enjoyed all the videos that you posted on your journey. Did anyone tell you what the 'purple stuff' is? And if you want even crazier narrow roads, try my spiritual home on the Isle of Wight LOL!
I love how you called it a trail😂😂 There are places you can reverse into to allow cars to move past. If you aren’t near one you have to reverse until you find one. So many roads in the U.K. were built like this, that it would be too expensive to widen all of them. They were built for horses and carts. I like going along them because they tend to be quite winding and bumpy which is fun! And I enjoy watching out of the window :)
That sign around 4:00 where theres a straight line and then a line with a curve in it means that the road narrows on the left-hand side of the road. if the curved lines on the other side it means on the right-hand side and where theres 2 of them it means on both sides
I know this is old but it’s probably because they were nervous. Your two way streets (based on videos I’ve seen) are more narrow than our one-way streets and they’re worried they don’t have enough room! I would be worried too!
mericet39 I guess you don't realize how wide some of our American cars are. I own a Chrysler New Yorker and a Plymouth Sport Fury, each of these cars are almost 7 feet wide.
We rode down roads in Ireland that were even more narrow...my husband, who was actually a race car driver in his youth, wouldn't let anyone else drive...so he drove and the rest of the group sang "Danny Boy". Once during the drive I glanced into the rear view mirror and I saw him rolling his eyes! 😄😄😄
The only thing is that it's much better to put the full address, rather than the postcode, into the sat nav. This is because postcode areas in the countryside are very large and the sat nav may take you quite a bit out of the way.
Charming! (A sad side to this is that in the country district where I live, we have a large US airbase and American servicemen - unfamiliar with our narrow country lanes - are frequently invloved in road accidents, often fatal ones. )
should head up north and visit yorkshire and do the penine way also if you go in york itself, go to the minster and underneath the minster lies the remains of the roman fort, which the saxons built there temple on top of the fort, pretty amazing thing that you can walk around the fort and on the original roads is just plain awesome the water supplys still there which the fort used just 10/10.
I'm very happy to see your pride in the county, chap, but you need a spell and grammar check before you post things. That's one long sentence, and I didn't spot a single capital letter.
The "One way traffic" sign wasn't that, it appears to be a "Road narrows on both sides" sign which seems more fitting given the road does suddenly become more narrow. One way traffic signs are blue... Also there are such things as "One way traffic" in the UK but the signs are usually quite obvious and make it pretty clear.
Your husband did ok. Looks like you are driving in Kent. Strange that the sat nav took you down country roads when there are plenty of A roads and motorways in Kent.
In the U.K. We get little rain to really heavy rain but we never get things like really bad eathquakes and really bad tornados but if we do it's extremely little like you never feel a thing
You guys sure do go slow at 1:50! The speed limit here is probably 60mph! There's lots of room too. But I can understand why your cautious. It pays to be so
Lovely genuine reactions to all the mundane things. I feel like I'm watching my own home videos. A nice gentle video for a nice gentle drive. Good stuff.
Don't be a numpty, the speed limit might have been sixty but only a fool drives a one lane country road at 60 unless it's die-straight for half a mile with nothing coming.
Tom L yeh because italian drivers use fiat puntos and mopeds! if you drive fast down these roads your a lunatic and i pray you dont have an accident to realise that
The driving was fine and the accents are great. Ultimately an unsatisfying story, though. I wanted to know how it ended. Did you get there? What was the hotel like?
SatNavs will often direct you the shortest way, not the best way. Locals would probably avoid the narrow roads which would normally be used only if the destination was in that road.
As an English man I find the southern American accent quiet charming
Until your in a prison cell with Bubba.
@@rickb.4168 Lol!
Not sure why.
...and there are several versions, in some you can hear a slight hint of its origins... the UK 😉
I think I could go to sleep listening to this.....the lovely soft accent, the sound of the driving......very soothing. Weird eh?
My ex many years ago used to speak like that whilst making love, was like getting a massage of the mind 😁
haha nice! I'd fall asleep in the middle of it
TheCamorra2011 i did, a few times lol,,,, got my ass chewed something rotten next morning
Mrs Bob Ross !!
It is weird just how relaxing this is, almost like the amsr videos, draws you in and chills you out
I love this couple, they sound really friendly and sweet. wish you both all the best and really hope you enjoyed your stay here in this country :)
That's not narrow at all compared to some country roads in the UK
But in the usa, they have MASSIVE roads. They dont understand :D
rob shaw Do they never go within 6 feet of another car in America?
Izzy D like the narrows ones in Isle of Wight and trust me they are really really narrow
Devon and Cornwall is where the REALLY narrow roads are.
Yeah Cornwall is where I was thinking of. A lot of the roads are only just wide enough for one car and then have a few wider passing places that you have to reverse into if a car comes towards you.

Yes I quite agree !
You'd realise how narrow that road is if you had to find a way to pass some 13 year old kid driving a tractor the other way.
I live in cornwall and the roads are far narrower and the hedges much higher!
Me too and no they are not they are the same
Charming accent. Hope you enjoyed our country.
That road is a pretty luxurious country lane. It's very common to find yourself driving down one half as wide with twists every 20 metres, you then have that awkward mount of the hedge when you come head to head. Then someone decides to make it a bus route!
This is adorable :) believe me, it gets narrower...
Matt Thompson the road may get narrower but I'm sure their waistlines wont
How sweet are you two guys, from a Brit I love you charming people!
@77MrAH Similar to a pedant, I think.
@77MrAH Someone who is born and lives in Britain !!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome accents , welcome to the U.K my Southern American amigo's
"This is narrow" Heh, if only that was narrow!! Very interesting to see such a rare perspective though.
As someone who passed their driving test in England 1964 I find driving on roads I don't know quite confusing and manage to get lost even with a sat Nav. You guys look like your doing really well.
The 2 Americans are very nice people.
Great accents, great attitude, & good driving.
This is my part of the world.

That's the finest technical explanation of the phenomena that I've yet heard . . and polite to boot - nice one.
Some wing mirrors might not agree
Lego Block 😂😂😂😂
that is one of the most charming videos I have ever watched.
Love your accents!
What a lovely couple. I hope they enjoyed their stay here in the UK.
I'm English so I'm used to these roads but I could listen to this soothing voice all day. Thanks for sharing your day! 🙂
So sweet, it could send you to sleep very easily. I've never heard an American accent so relaxing.
Adorable. Thanks for uploading.
You know when your too close to an oncoming vehicle is when you both loose your wing mirrors...lol
You 2 are sweethearts! hope you enjoyed your holiday!
I could watch this all day long, they should make a ten hour version!
whats the bet half of that lane was national speed limit,60mph
the entire lane would have probably been national speed limit, the best thing is that national speed limit in the 60s or sometime similar use to mean unrestricted speed limit. so you could imagine cars going down there or attempting to go faster then the 60 limit
Locals would drive part of that road at 80
Luke Wren speaking as a local, affirmative.
Yes it is , but driving down there at 60 is asking for trouble !
Bless her she was so anxious about the width of that road and it was literally an average UK road 😂 thanks for the upload, I enjoyed it!
The sign you saw that you thought was telling you of a one way road, was actually just warning you that the road narrows ahead. You seemed to be doing fine though. I hope you enjoyed your stay in my country.
That was so sweet. I really hope you enjoyed your stay.
charming, i love the way you say "ve-he-cle" :)
tonybuk70 and “fixing to end up in the bushes” made me smile. I am a Yorkshireman and had the pleasure of living in South Carolina for 2 years. Y’all have a great day!

i love these people, those accents are mighty charming
You know the road is narrow when you see grass growing up the centre of it.
I wonder if they’re still driving around our country lanes..? 😂 bless em 😊👍
Some say…
You guys are so cool! I can imagine it is a shock driving on our little lanes after the lovely big US roads and on the wrong side! You did well!
gorgeous video love your gentle accents hope you enjoyed our teeny tiny island
I love how you called it a trail😂😂
There are places you can reverse into to allow cars to move past. If you aren’t near one you have to reverse until you find one.

For anyone wondering this is Eythorne in Kent! I just realised as i was watching the footage i drove these exact roads a few weeks ago!
Well done, love your accent, very sweet. Hope you enjoyed your stay
Wonderful to experience our country from someone else's perspective. I enjoyed this video so much
"Maybe they have gentle rain" Haha! Not in the North!
Your voice is very calming!
ha! i was just thinking to myself 'is he going to make that turning?'
That sign around 4:00 where theres a straight line and then a line with a curve in it means that the road narrows on the left-hand side of the road. if the curved lines on the other side it means on the right-hand side and where theres 2 of them it means on both sides
What a sweet couple. Hope you enjoyed your stay in England.
it's funny to see you almost stop everytime a car comes - in the UK we would pass each other at 50 - 60 mph on these roads :)
I know this is old but it’s probably because they were nervous. Your two way streets (based on videos I’ve seen) are more narrow than our one-way streets and they’re worried they don’t have enough room! I would be worried too!
This is the Bob Ross of driving commentary
For what it's worth the road at the beginning is NOT narrow. That's basically a duel carriage way of back-lane country roads :)
You think that's narrow! And yes we do have one way in this country.
Last time I heard someone pronounce the word 'vehicle' like that was on the Dukes of Hazzard!!
Yeeeehaaaaaa!
"I'm sorry if it wasn't wide enough for you. A lot of the English cars have steering wheels." - Basil Fawlty, Fawlty Towers. Seemed apt. :)

Haha how long was the line of traffic behind them. But yeah they were wide country lanes. Speed up.
The car at 5:00 is a Honda (Acura) NSX.
Charming! (A sad side to this is that in the country district where I live, we have a large US airbase and American servicemen - unfamiliar with our narrow country lanes - are frequently invloved in road accidents, often fatal ones. )
Love your Accent, Hope you had a great time in England! XXXX
haha "one way".
The sign actually meant HAZARD! (the red triangle) ROAD NARROWS (as if it wasn't narrow enough already!)
Amazing! Bless you
Poor sods! Seem like a nice couple. Hope they got there and enjoyed themselves.
+bakersteven3 Legend says they are still taking left turns around the English countryside to this day.
I like it.
Haha! What dedication. Their booking renewal costs must be skyhigh.
lol
All that sign meant was junction on bend ahead. And you do realise the national speed limit of the United Kingdom is 60mph.
Hope you had a great time :-)
Love the southern accent.
Fantastic accents,
I've had friends over from the USA
Nearly crying because we do them back lanes at 60mph.
😁😁😁
should head up north and visit yorkshire and do the penine way also if you go in york itself, go to the minster and underneath the minster lies the remains of the roman fort, which the saxons built there temple on top of the fort, pretty amazing thing that you can walk around the fort and on the original roads is just plain awesome the water supplys still there which the fort used just 10/10.

You sound like a lovely lovely couple, I hope you enjoyed your visit. 😃
why were you driving so slowly?! lol. Hope you found your hotel! How did you get on with manual gears (stick-shift) or did you hire an auto?!
In the U.K. We get little rain to really heavy rain but we never get things like really bad eathquakes and really bad tornados but if we do it's extremely little like you never feel a thing
From memory, you only have central road markings on roads 16ft or more wide.
Americans like the British accent.I personally don't think you can beat the southern American accent 😊
We absolutely do have one-way roads, they're generally in towns though.
What a bae. Could listen to you talk all day. Next time you're in England come visit Bristol :) xx
+James Woodcock I visited Bristol 2 years ago. I was pleasantly surprised :)
You REALLY don't need to pull that far over. Those "narrow" roads are WIDE 🤣
You guys sure do go slow at 1:50! The speed limit here is probably 60mph! There's lots of room too. But I can understand why your cautious. It pays to be so
From looking on Google earth there are some really thin roads that barely fit one car past in Dorset/Cornwall
Lovely genuine reactions to all the mundane things. I feel like I'm watching my own home videos. A nice gentle video for a nice gentle drive.
Good stuff.
Jonathan Williams A
Ahaha you two are adorable, in a non condescending way. It's funny because on those roads people travel at the national speed limit
...cant wait for part 2.....
Great video in East Kent where I live. Great cycling country. Thanks for posting.
I live near here haha, those roads can be pretty rough if you don't know them well
You can't beat southern England ,ps , love ur accents
The sign at 3:54 means road narrows on the left.
Beautiful accent.
Those narrow roads you speak of are 60mph roads put your foot down.
Don't be a numpty, the speed limit might have been sixty but only a fool drives a one lane country road at 60 unless it's die-straight for half a mile with nothing coming.
In Italy everone drives 60 (100km/h) down roads like these with more bends. Perfectly fine
Tom L yeh because italian drivers use fiat puntos and mopeds! if you drive fast down these roads your a lunatic and i pray you dont have an accident to realise that
There are far narrower roads in the UK. Some are 1 car wide with special passing places so If you meet another car you may have to reverse up.
Love the accents :) That's not a narrow road :) Hope you had fun over here :)
Hope you enjoyed your stay
Her voice reminds me of TreeTrunks from Adventure Time hehe
The driving was fine and the accents are great. Ultimately an unsatisfying story, though. I wanted to know how it ended. Did you get there? What was the hotel like?
This is the first of two parts.
+John T I believe it's the first of three parts.
There are super narrow roads in the Southern US a well! 😄 And in the midwest and North and West! Hello! Haha
That's a real Southern accent. Its not a Hollywood accent.
Thought it was going to be a Harry Enfield sketch!
Diddledepoe Idaho! You just know they are wearing tan coloured clothing, and he's got a flat cap and glasses.
Have a few narrow road close to home when the hedges on both sides of the road catch my little Micra.
It is a shock when you drive tiny country lanes and then meet another car and have to back up a long distance to pull off the road and let them by.
SatNavs will often direct you the shortest way, not the best way. Locals would probably avoid the narrow roads which would normally be used only if the destination was in that road.
Take the second exit.
Ok, I'll try to count.
Lol!
Honda NSX at 4:53
