I love how nice the comments are. Always thought the UK had alot of pomposity but I realize now how wrong I was. Lots of good, considerate, and humble people in England.
At 9:21 you drove past The Leather Bottle pub........and my house is 100 yards away from that! Great to hear your narration as you drove on our B class roads :-) Hope you had a lovely time!
when you live in the country, you don't give any thought to how narrow the roads are! I found this video fascinating, seeing the familiar through new eyes!! and what a charming couple, hope you enjoyed your time in England.
What a charming couple ! The speed limits in the UK is 70 on a motorway . That are like your Interstate roads . 60 on other roads, except when going through towns and villages . Where they are generally 30 . But you will sometimes a 20 mph usually near a school .
I drive on roads like this every week as I live in the country.. but there are much narrower than these folks..try driving in Cornwall or parts of Wales where meeting an oncoming tractor is nothing short of a nightmare which usually means backing up and driving in reverse around bends and even sometimes uphill or downhill (Wales) .. I had to smile when you said how narrow the road was! I grew up in the USA in the 60's/70's and every time we came back to the UK for holidays to see the family, I remember my parents remarking on how narrow the roads seemed even though that was all they knew for their whole life... but you soon forget when you are driving on wide roads in big automatic cars as we did then! I hope you enjoyed your trip! :-)
An unassuming and utterly charming vid that highlights the (sometimes radical) "differences" in driving in the UK and the US, without resorting to tired stereotypes. Many thanks for posting this. I wish you well altogether. MsG
A nice, jolly couple , the lady has such a lovely accent - we like Southern accents in the UK. Use to love the Barbara Mandrell show. If your unfamiliar, stick to 'A' roads if you can, ''B' roads are very old and unpredictable in width.
Thought you drove really well here. I'm American with family in the States and England. A lot of the rural roads are precarious and can be unsettling if you're not used to driving on the opposite side. Looks like you enjoyed your trip.
you seem to have gained confidence in this video. As usual, all the traffic you come across is very considerate. I'm enjoying the commentary - a mundane road journey for me seems like a great adventure for you; good stuff, on to the next one ...
This is not a main road . It is a side road , what we call a, " B" road . You will have to remember, these road were in use a long time before the car was even thought of . Many have been in use for 800 to a 1000 years . Our main roads are called motorways and are just like your Interstate highways .
3:09 "Do you need your sunglasses on? Oh! A little turtle or something just crossed the road." Yeah, signs along the side of the road will let you know which wildlife here in England use the roads. We have zebra crossings, cattle and sheep crossings, deer tend to cross anywhere they like, whenever they like, and turtles and other amphibians usually use the purpose-built underground crossings, but you must have seen one using the over-road pass. Throngs of turtles cross British roads all the time, usually early morning and early twilight. I'm sure you noticed the sign for 'snake crossing' at exactly 3:02? Hope you enjoyed your visit here?
this is sooo close to where I live. Sometimes on these lanes it's good to have a huge truck in front of you. Clears the way for you. No one expects him to reverse. You definitely took the scenic route into Deal!
The "neat little car" at 11:20 is a Morgan. You can visit the factory in Malvern where they make them the same way they did 80 years ago. Maybe on your next trip.
I love it!! the speed limit down these roads is 60MPH... so if you're used to driving down these roads you pass at 120MPH!! ... assuming you're both not speeding ;-)... I hope you had a great time over here in Kent!!
LOL, used to do the paper round there in Mongeham forty years ago. The Three Horseshoes used to get the Morning Advertiser, and when I collected the money every Saturday morning, the wife used to scald me for knocking loudly and waiting the husband up.
Pub is short for Public House, somewhere that is licensed to serve alcohol. Mainly, but not limited to beer and ale. Some pubs may serve food and have part of it set aside as a restaurant, but not all pubs are restaurants.
As teenager with a car in England not all teenagers drive recklessly to impress others. Also the speed limit tends to be 30 in built up towns/ villages and the sign with the black diagonal line is the national speed limit, which is 60mph.
No, it's 50 mph on those narrow roads. The sign just means the end of the 30 mph restriction. After passing it the speed limit is dependent on the type of road you are on.
Think you might have entered "shortest route " in your sat nav. You should enterz" fastest route" which keeps you on larger roads. Shortest route takes you down single track roads ...keep safe and well from the North Norfolk coast UK
I'm sure Americans can't believe all the twists and turns that require concentration. Devon and Cornwall roads are often one car width with hedges and trees scraping the sides.
I do hope she noticed the acknowledgement directed at her from the driver of that ambulance indicating his gratitude for her giving him a clear passage and right of way as an emergency vehicle. This is more or less obligatory here in the UK for the most part.
You only have to give way to emergency vehicles when they have the blue lights (or if its a doctor green lights) and sirens on, When they are on an emergency call. Without them on they are no different then any other road user. I think the driver just said thank you for letting them past not for giving way to them for being an ambulance.
local knowledge: "Monga Ham" is pronounced "Munjam". And funnily enough, many of those roads round there have 60mph speed limits. And you actually drive past the house of an old friend of mine. I'm getting way too excited by this...
spunkternal This is what we call 'Sunday driving' in the south. Don't ever think you'll get anywhere quickly if you decide to drive somewhere on a Sunday in the south. There will only be old people taking a slow scenic tour of the countryside on the roads.
***** youre not destroyign property they just need to widen these roads its ridiculous most of these roads go by farms and fields full of nothing just widen them 10 feet it will not affect anythign historical
Callum Curtis not when a big truck is going around a corner and doesnt see you Thats dangerous at 40 mph just widen the roads by 10 feet theres nothign there but farms and nothing
There should be a TV show of just Americans driving on British roads. It's mesmerizing.
I could listen to those accents all day long...
I have NEVER heard such a calm, pleasant couple, in all my years!
I love how nice the comments are. Always thought the UK had alot of pomposity but I realize now how wrong I was. Lots of good, considerate, and humble people in England.
Watching this, I'm seeing our country lanes through fresh eyes. It's fascinating.
OK, still hooked, will they reach their destination in part 3? Will they be happy? Can't wait.
I have a feeling this format could genuinely be a tv series. =p Charming people - thanks for sharing and hope you enjoyed!! (:
I could listen to her voice all day. It's so relaxing.
Can't help taking a liking this lovely couple, could listen to them all day.
At 9:21 you drove past The Leather Bottle pub........and my house is 100 yards away from that! Great to hear your narration as you drove on our B class roads :-) Hope you had a lovely time!
Always loved you Southern folk . Accent so easy to understand where as some of the accents in Britain are a little tricky .
That's the sound of happiness.
the good thing about following a truck/lorry on a country lane is that they clear all the oncoming traffic out of the way
when you live in the country, you don't give any thought to how narrow the roads are! I found this video fascinating, seeing the familiar through new eyes!! and what a charming couple, hope you enjoyed your time in England.
very polite lovely American lady and her husband
What lovely people. I hope you had a good holiday in Britain :) It must have been like driving on the moon for you but you did a fantastic job!
This couple are adorable. Thanks for uploading, PBW. :)
What a charming couple ! The speed limits in the UK is 70 on a motorway . That are like your Interstate roads . 60 on other roads, except when going through towns and villages . Where they are generally 30 . But you will sometimes a 20 mph usually near a school .
The lesson here is tolerance and patience when driving on country roads in the UK.
I hope you enjoyed your holiday you are a charming couple.
I hope you enjoy your time in the UK too.

Key English phrase when driving - "Come on, you could get a bloody jumbo jet through there!"
A jumbo jet ? in my part of the country we say a TANK.
Big thanks to the lady for her running commentary, without which would not be so entertaining :)
loving your accents :) hope you enjoyed our country.
loved when you said about a turtle crossing the road haha
Love your accent! Hope you Had a GREAT HOLIDAY.XX
I was trying to guess where you where from the 1st part video and I guessed Kent. I was correct. Great videos, you sound like the sweetest couple.
6:43 "New road layout ahead, wonder what the old one was?" Who says Americans don't do sarcasm?
philip013 . Well the old one might have been too dangerous to use at speeds
New road layout can mean it was changed years ago. Nobody ever seems to take these signs down.
Yeah lol, I swear they replace them though haha. Some seem to have been up since I was born

It looks like you guys visit little old Kent a few years back so I sincerely hope you enjoy your time here. Keep well & best wishes
You have lovely accents, nice soft southern accents.

What a cruel lady! I hope the police arrested her...
oops, scold, lol.
Really enjoyed your video, hope you enjoyed your stay over here you sound like really nice people :)

You guys did great. Hope you enjoyed your stay!
Both of you sound like lovely people! :)
i hoped you enjoyed your stay. liked the vid well done.
i love your southern accents. I hope you enjoyed your stay.
Just thought it might be interesting... on back roads, generally, all the crooked ones are medievil and all the straight ones are Roman.
I like the commentary.
How quiet must the American countryside be if you are so surprised by a few people and cars. Great little video. Come on back now, ya hear.
The very narrow roads are precarious for tourists who are used to driving on the right not the left. It takes some practice.
The roads are very wide in the USA , even in the more rural areas. But you probably already knew this.
Maybe we just like y'all. Also we imagine the famous history you have. Sometimes it's intoxicating
Driving in the Kent countryside to Deal, Kent is known as the garden of England and very scenic it is too, hope you had a great holiday.
Russ Cattell Was out that way a couple of weeks back. Very pretty and a really good drive. Nice and twisty just the way I like it.
Btw its customary to wave to save thank you when a car pulls in for you allowing you to pass.
It is (or was) the same in the U.S.
Longest 8 miles in my life but brilliant 👏 👌
Think you might have entered "shortest route " in your sat nav. You should enterz" fastest route" which keeps you on larger roads. Shortest route takes you down single track roads ...keep safe and well from the North Norfolk coast UK
the neat little car is a hand built Morgan at 11.22 made in Malvern Worcestershire
A pub is not a restaurant per se. It's actually a sort of bar, only less hip. Most allow children & serve food.
Tru
3:08 must of been the rare British hedge turtle that usually only come out at night.
I'm sure Americans can't believe all the twists and turns that require concentration. Devon and Cornwall roads are often one car width with hedges and trees scraping the sides.
Love the ladies accent straight outa Gone with the wind .
I think this couple are remarkably cool!...when I drive in Europe ie on the right! I feel really stressed out!... greetings from the UK!
Alan Thomas v
Alan Thomas Not everyone feels like that mate, driving a car is pretty easy wherever you are.
You want to see how fast the locals drive at night!
"Oh, a little turtle just ran across the road!" lol
You guys should have your own TV show. Next trip try Devon where the roads are twice as narrow as this! Eek.
Nearly all these little country roads have a 60mph limit unless signed otherwise.
This reminds me of the car drive to family camping trips on Cornwall XD
60mph on those little country roads,,, mad huh ? Lol
I wonder if they got to where they were going eventually !
You did great driving on the correct side of the road 😂
I do hope she noticed the acknowledgement directed at her from the driver of that ambulance indicating his gratitude for her giving him a clear passage and right of way as an emergency vehicle. This is more or less obligatory here in the UK for the most part.

richy loike If you have the option to let them through, it's just better. You never know what is/just might be about to happen.
richy loike emergency vehicles don't actually have to have blue lights on to use their exemptions.
i wish the people here in the UK were as nice as you two!
Yay-us!.....the Horseshoe sure was a li'l ole pub, ma'am!
We don't have turtles in the wild :)
@Rosida Andriyana foxes, badgers, dears, rabbits etc
We do, but they live in the sea and never venture onto dry land.
Probably a Terrapin. They can grow quite large.
local knowledge: "Monga Ham" is pronounced "Munjam". And funnily enough, many of those roads round there have 60mph speed limits. And you actually drive past the house of an old friend of mine. I'm getting way too excited by this...
This sounds like Faye Dunaway playing Bonnie Parker..
I love Deal…but my favourite place is St Margarets Bay…
Either you're in Devon or you chose "shortest route" on the satnav :)
did she just say a turtle!? XD
Your going WAY too slow 😂 😂 😂 😂 🇬🇧
30mph in the village 60mph on the country lanes
11:19 That was a Morgan, made in England.
6:22 You know that the speed limit on single carriageways out here is 60, don't you? 😁
Why use shortest route on the sat nav?
10:29 i was like 'OH SHIT' lol
i'd be raging if i was stuck behind these guys. pootling along at 10mph
spunkternal This is what we call 'Sunday driving' in the south. Don't ever think you'll get anywhere quickly if you decide to drive somewhere on a Sunday in the south. There will only be old people taking a slow scenic tour of the countryside on the roads.
Get a motorcycle 👌🏻
where abouts did you stay?
The people you hope are not on these type roads when you are driving is teenagers who are showing off to their mates.
AT 9:15 THERE WAS A BLACK SEAT MII!!!!
I HAVE A WHITE ONE OF THOSE UP IN YORKSHIRE!
What kind of camera were you using ?
I do believe it was a pin-hole camera...10 pixels, quality back in the day.
This helps. I'm afraid to drive there.
Why dont they widen the roads in England ?
*****
youre not destroyign property they just need to widen these roads its ridiculous most of these roads go by farms and fields full of nothing just widen them 10 feet it will not affect anythign historical
rbeck3200tb40 i personally like the challenge of our country roads in england.
Callum Curtis
its just too dangerous with alot of big trucks driving by and emergency vehicles cant drive through there fast
about 40mph on the really narrow roads is perfectly acceptable.
Callum Curtis
not when a big truck is going around a corner and doesnt see you Thats dangerous at 40 mph just widen the roads by 10 feet theres nothign there but farms and nothing
At 3.00mins. she says ´´there´s a little Turtle or something just run across the road ´´.......what !?
I like the foxgloves in July…
Those roads are 70mph
60*
Who records in 240 p
We dont have turtles in the UK.
the turtle was probably a hedge hog
No street lights.....🤭
