I was here! I am in the crowd sitting on a friend,s shoulder wearing a White Hat and white sleeveless shirt! Best Concert ever!❤
I was there too, with a bunch of friends, about 100vft. away from center stage. Being the tallest guy in our group, the gals we were with all wanted to climb up and sit on my shoulders. I must have had one gal or another on my shoulders for at least a couple of hours total. We had a great time!
Ah so you’re why I couldn’t see 😩😩😩
5:30 that was you?? 5:29
Lucky you when i was 13 when this hit and i could not afford a ticket, i had a freind that told me frampton live was the best !
@@chuckmangione195 Sorry about that! But you will be happy to know that I have shrunk from 6'-5¹/²" to 6-4³/⁴"!
It’s incredible to realize that Peter Frampton was one of those rare individuals who is both a heartthrob to teenage girls and well respected for his guitar and Music competency
Paul McCartney is another...
And respected for his guitar and music competency to said teenage heartthrob girls
John Mayer, Rory Gallagher, Jimmy Page, Prince... I mean... there are quite a couple....

The 70's was a golden age of live concert performances.
I saw kiss in 1975 in concert and they were so loud my ears were ringing for a week and i shit blood for 2 days 😮 J.K sorry i could not help slipping that last part inn 😂😁
Nice. I was at the "Day on the Green" one year earlier (76) and saw, the first tour of Van Halen and AC/DC...other acts were Pat Travers (Snorting Whiskey and Drinking Cocaine) Foreigner and Aerosmith....YES, the Stadium Rock Era...ppppfffff.
Frampton Comes Alive is one of the best live albums of all time.
It really is. I got it for Christmas the year it came out and wore it out in my bedroom with those gigantic headphones plugged into my stereo!!! Good times!!!!
i heard that live version first ..so you know nothing other than that atmosphere caught on vinyl could do
Could not agree more ! Great album ! Every song was good on that album.
Not surprisingly, it's the best selling live album ever.
Awesome
This video is like like takin the lid off a bucket of the late 70's and stickin your face right in it.
Yes it is. So are the California Jam videos.
yes, yes it is! Isn't it bitchin?
You said it best, man!
I can smell the KFC from here.
That is hilarious! So very true. Look at him go on the drums.
when are they going to put Frampton in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame....long overdue
Man, that place is like a Trump rally. Go to one. They rock!
@@EarthSurferUSA Except the people at this show know why they're cheering.
Hall of fame is a joke! Janet fucking Jackson?
@Paddy Orourke what a fucking douche!
@@EarthSurferUSA wow you Trumptards really are that delusional.
So wonderful to stumble on this. In 1977, my first wife answered a call from her best friend Sally, in Hayward California, her home town. I overheard her exclaim, "Frampton's coming to the Coliseum?" I shouted out to ask Sally when. Deb replied, "In 2 weeks." I said, to get Sally to pick up tickets, we're going. We jumped on an international flight in Vancouver, flew to San Fran, stayed with Deb's Mom and attended this very show. We were at the front, on Frampton's left, although I didn't see us in the video. What a show!!
Bruce Currie so awesome
it's really good they had quality footage of this concert
I was there too Bruce ✌🏽💜 how lucky we are. Santana and Lynard Skynyrd too
Great story!
Wonderful
Frampton Cimes Alive was my very first concert day on the green it was 75 or 76 maybe I was 16 it was a long time ago!!! But it was fabulous.
I was at this show !
Best 16th birthday present ever!
Thanks mom ❤
28 years old in 77, stood in line for a day to buy my ticket. The air at the concert was electric. You just knew it was a once in a life time rare event. Right up there with Woodstock.
Kinda like standing in line to see Star Wars that summer
Lucky you! :-)
Wow , I did both and more , here on this day , stood in line for star wars tickets and later that month waited all day and night for the gates to open for what ended up being Led Zeps.last U.S. concert right here in Oakland.
I was 19 in 1977.... played drums, and my friend played guitar. I eventually saw Frampton years later at a much smaller outdoor venue north of Toronto. He had short hair...
Frampton comes alive. Was the first album I ever bought with my own money....
Rick Beato just did a #100 “What makes this song great” breakdown of this song, it’s fun. He also interviewed Peter Frampton.
Great episode
Beato is a fucking genius
TokyoBlue ~ Yea! Beato has an _amazing_ channel! Tells us what modes they're written in which l like. lf l'm not mistaken, he said this was in a dorian/mixalodian switch. l love taking pieces apart, and putting them together again. Maybe thats why l'm such a prog hound!
That keyboardist is insane - I never realized how much feel and groove he brought to this song. Hell, the whole band is killing it. I love the attitude in Frampton's playing most of all. Just full-on-bad-ass. And fun too!
R.I.P. Bob Mayo 😧
Bob fuggin Mayo. His solo is so incredible on this song. Difficulty level is through the roof, but so subtle.
The recorded version of this song was unreal and phenomenal. Unfortunately, Peter could never duplicate that performance again. Other bands could .
That Fender Rhodes sounds awesome!
I was at this concert! Look for me in the crowd sitting on some guy,s shoulder wearing a white hat and white sleeveless shirt! Best Concert ever! A Classic!
Lucky you!
People? Do you fell like we do that is a lie?
Hey Sharon, girl you are so damn lucky 🍀
I’m looking for ya. Does it show you after Peter drums. Man that’s blew my mind, I didn’t know he was a drummer to. I know this…..what a throb in my heart 💜 god he is sexy as hell !!!!!
There weren’t many who were bigger than he was at this moment. He truly stood on top of the rock mountain for a short time.
God I want to go back in time so I could see all these great concerts in person
Take me with you.. I wanna see em all again .. Great times
God....take me with you
I was there….went to all of the day on the green concerts!
Sh💩t!…..for me, What awesomeness it would’ve been to film on a smartphone in 1977 at The Fabulous Forum AND 💯the Best Rock Ban/Concert ever! Led Zeppelin” and Yassss!….the Greatest That EVER DONE THA Rock 🥁 thang!…John Bonham 🤘🏽🔥…✊🏽
I saw him live in Houston in the summer of 77 omg it was the shit it was when you could smoke weed inside there people tapping my shoulder from behind passing me a joint when I already had one in my hand so I just passed yo the person in front of me and get the one from behind lol
A warm & sunny afternoon in Oakland California 1977, thousands of youths at the Colosseum with Peter Frampton band, very high on some Acapulco Gold . . . ohh yeaaa ! ! ! It rarely gets better-than-this ! ! ! Feeling good is the song & the people in a beautiful moment in time that never dies ! ! !
Music history, created live in the California sun. Oh yeah... 🎶🌅🎶
Yes indeed , I was there in 77 I was that stoned guy in the middle of the green.

A consummate performer and boy, what a talented guitarist. So melodic.
Oh - and not a mobile phone in sight! The good ol' days of concerts.
This performance ALONE is Hall of Fame worthy. Peter was on fire! I am amazed at his drumming skills, and Bob Mayo (keyboardist) and the bassist are tight.
Even today Peter Frampton's Music Still Sounds Great! I miss the 70's
i miss the 70's as well
I grew up with this amazing music and at 63 today still loving Frampton, Good time's, Good memories 🎶🌟🎶💞🎶🌟🎶Peace and Love to all 🎶🕊🎶
Right on, right on, right on😂
My first concert was Frampton. Sept.4 ,1977 Orlando, Tangerine Bowl. Still have the ticket stub. Freshman in High School. Growing up in the 70's was the best decade ever and Frampton was like the Sweet icing on the cake. Ask anyone who was a teenager back then. Oh yeah, and it only cost like $10 to see Peter Frampton and 3 other bands Rock your socks off.
I agree with you that the 70s were good times and Frampton Comes Alive was and still is an epic recording. Shortly after this, disco took over. Saturday Night Live (Bee Gees) took over the airwaves. In late 1978, I decided to travel cross country to Orlando, took some time off of school and began working at Disney. Remember living in a small house near the Tangerine Bowl on W 36th St. I also remember driving down OBT with radio blasting as a DJ was playing “Tragedy” back to back to back. I was there only a few months but was life experience I’ve never forgotten. Great that you hung onto your ticket stub. My first concert was a 1979 Cheap Trick / Eddie Money gig in Wisconsin. Good times and thanks for sharing your story.
In 1977 I was a freshman in college....now I'm 60 and loving retirement....life is good.....music is great!
Frampton coming alive on those drums! 🤙😎✌
You know a song is nothing but cool if you can play it 44 years later & still get over 1.3 million views. Awesome.
WOW! I didn't know Frampton could play drums! And he's good!!!
One of the most underrated guitarist. Still sexy at 72.
As many copies as were sold of "Frampton Comes Alive," Peter still doesn't get the credit he deserves for his incredibly likable and playful stage persona. It flew in the face of rock conventions of the time, which tended to be much more serious-minded, but in this video we get a lot to love. What I like best about it is how EVERYTHING seems as if it'll never end. That incredible bass-line, the wailing of the guitars, the uber-'70's vocoder chat, the California sunshine and the thousands and thousands and thousands of young blonde boys and girls. Rock and roll rarely had it so good as it did on this day. Everybody seems to be feeling pretty fucking good and for the 24 minutes or so of this video so do I.
+Dash Riprock It's because of the weed! We Bay Area-ers are famous for our love of the organic.
+Dash Riprock The 70s were pretty cool, but honestly, there was also something a little scary and out-of-control about that time. I remember being kind of creeped out a lot growing up then.
+RunningMadeSuperEasy
Hey, I was right there with you being creeped out!
Not only was the Cold War possibility of WWIII always lurking in those days but all of us kids were up to no good most of the time and I remember wishing the grown-ups would catch on just a little. More, though, I think it was a classic case of "be careful what you wish for." The '60's had been all about letting loose from the constraints of conformity and norms and the '70's were a bit hung over as a result. Not that we've learned anything from either decade, though!
+Dash Riprock Yeah, I remember all of us kids being left to our own devices and doing some really weird stuff. But then, kids are always getting into trouble. At least we were more engaged with the real world, as opposed to kids today who do most of their stuff online in virtual reality.
+Dash Riprock I am so damn glad i got to be a kid during those times. Late 70's and early 80s were the last time things were cool. Talk about creepy and scary? Only got worse from there man. Those days were kind of idyllic as i look back now. (maybe it's just the haze i'm looking through though.
people don't realize how talented and cool Bob mayo was being he's in the background alot but he was a huge part of Peters sound
Helluva singer too. His harmonies were spot on.
i think Frampton did
I've played this song over and over and heard it a million times... but just now it clicked!
"Bob Mayo on the keyboard!!!" Haha
Yes, Bob was a very talented, strong part of Peter's success, let's drink to Bob Mayo on the keyboards, cheers mate!
Yes...Mr. Mayo makes that Fender Rhodes come to life...soulful playing!
SO under-rated! Frampton contributed significantly to the technical side of rock, taking it in new & exciting directions. Highly talented, with great musical skills, & the obvious ability to bring his audience right along with him. He could both entertain & amaze his fans, while being REALLY easy on the eyes! He loved making music, & he translated that love to his listeners with every note. Many thanks to you, Mr. Frampton!
At one point in time this track ruled the world.
+bobbysbackingtracks Just like fleeting RUclips content
+bobbysbackingtracks Still does!
+Mr EOS Not even close to like that, in any way shape or form. I'm gonna guess by that comment that you were not around back then.

Errrrrrrrrr. Yes I was. I was 19 years old and was at the show were they recorded some of this album in Commack, New York 3 miles from my house. "Frampton Comes Alive"??? Best selling album of 1976. Worldwide 11 million in sales. Do your homework b4 you appear stupid.
bobbysbackingtracks Err, you didn't see WHO that comment was to, did ya? Perhaps learn to see who someone was directing their comment to before YOU do. :)
I'm gonna help you out a bit here man. See how, at the beginning of my comment, it says +MR EOS??? Ok, now hold on, because here comes the mind blowing part. That means i was talking to ... YUP, MR. EOS, and NOT you!!
See how this all works now mate? Good, good. (yeah man, it's always good to do your homework before you look stupid bud, that is for sure. kinda makes more sense now, don't it?)
I've always been a great fan of the Peter framton band. Do you feel like I do. I think so.🤘 I'm 60 now and still a major fan. Quality music and instruments.❤️
Frampton was a MASTER at controlling the crowd... and playing guitar. Wow! And the keyboard player was great. Peter picked me up hitchhiking in Berkeley, California in 1968, in his big black limousine, dressed in a gorgeous brown pin-striped suit with his long curly golden locks. I didn't quite recognize him at the time, until I got home and saw him in Rolling Stone... we all had a crush on him back in those days! He was as good looking, nice and polite as you could have asked for in a young man; a real rarity back in those days. I give him 10's all the way around!
Catherine S. Todd Did you mean 1978 instead of 1968? Peter was just leaving the Herd and forming Humble Pie in 1968.
Lovely...
you give him a 10 - I give him the infinity sign - on and on forever - just too much love
Being a nice guy was rare back then, you must of hung around a bunch of assholes
@@vanshipman : no, it was 1968. I didn't say which band he was with (as I wouldn't have known), just knew him by his face and the fancy clothes and limousine.
When I was in college students placed stereo sound in windows playing Peter Frampton.. It was loud and great . Students were on lawns doing work from class. Nobody objected .
My worst yet favorite memories of frampton comes alive was during the blizzard of 76/77. I drove nonstop from Hickory N.C. to oklahoma. Heater in my car broke in the smokie mtns. I wrapped up in a blanket and drove sometimes only able to go 15 mph. Smoking my bong, drinking TJ Swann wine and listened to this song over and over all the way. I was 17 and had a fight with my dad in Hickory. Went to stay with my grandma in okie land. Peter Frampton was along for the ride 😂 😂 😂 Thanks for the company Peter.....
Awesome!
I'm one of those grandma's and man, what a concert! Fn-A!
Luv it, luv it that's right, Yeah, yeah ❤
Wow you know I go by Fergy myself and my sister use to spell her's that way, that's just so great and awesome 😂 wow.
Man was I born in the wrong generation! I would have loved to see this live. This Era of music is the top of the mountain, it gets no better!
I saw him at the Long Beach Arena in 1974 opening for Skynyrd. It was my first ever concert at 14 yrs old. One very memorable moment
I agree with you 100% I think I was to. I was born in 1960 I got to enjoy the 70s
We enjoyed the moment and cell phones were no where to be found.
Classic Peter Frampton in the day. That's the way it was when he was the biggest rockstar on the planet!
Days on the Green were high school staples for me. This was an amazing concert: Peter Frampton, Fleetwood Mac, Gary Wright and UFO. WOW!
I saw him around the same time in '77 in North Carolina as a 16 year old. GREAT show, I was deaf for two days, and the best part was his rapport with the audience. Very personable, joking with the audience and genuinely enjoying the show with us!
This is awesome. He deserve some respect for constantly switching instruments without problem.
When superstars really were SUPERSTARS
ILMatt. And idiots weren't posting stupid comments on youtube because the dumbing down of the internet was still 30 years away.
Filip Orvik he is a guitar God ! And still can Rock today
Filip Orvik : Frampton is one of greatest guitar Gods.✌
Love the smattering of wawa and electronic noise. Real musicians are wonderful.
I am so fortunate that I was there! What a dynamic & joyful performer! He had (as always) the audience in the palm of his hand! Also, he is one of the most underrated guitarist of all time!
If concerts were only this good today!
Amen you know that's right!❤
pre MTV, this song did rule the world for a time. one of the best live songs ever
So, I put this video on, and suddenly I realize that it is that long elusive, kick-ass live version of this song. Searching for decades to see a really good live performance. So, I pressed "pause," and quickly rolled one, then pressed "play." By the way, thanks very much for posting this, I was 17 in 76 . Peter Frampton took over mid-1976, and he weighed massively on the entire year.
We're the same age. I saw Frampton on this tour in Chicago; Yes headlined. This video is gold!
Bob Mayo, John Regan and Peter, fantastic....no more words.
In this lineup behind Peter, Bob Mayo, Stanley Sheldon, John Siomos
Maybe it's an age thing, but I don't really know if there's anything out there these days to compare to this kind of music! I realise we shouldn't look back. I feel sory for kids these days, I'm sure each generation thinks the next generations music is crap, but music from that era seemed to vary more in style and type, but the quality was much better! The musicans were very good craftsmen, had a stage presence and put on a good show! Maybe I'm geting old!
It's always an age thing. Everybody thinks their generation is best. I do not disagree with you though... this is my favorite song ever tbh. I play this when I'm emotionally flying, and I also play it when I am down. It is perfect for me.
😂😂😂 yeah.
It will make you feel good because that's what it's about so keep doing it and keep listening hear cause it will make everyone feel like that just an awesome song and prefomer.
Has to be one of the greatest performances ever of mankind!
💜💜Frampton was having a GREAT day as we all were.. and who knew he was so good on the drums!! I have a few pics of that day, one where hes on the piano. And today he is still sounding and looking sooooo good!!

Frampton was a flashy guy. Funny, played a bunch of instruments, could absolutely shred, and very loveable. Arguably greatest musician of all time
One of
Peeps used to look at me like I was from Mars when I'd put Frampton"s name in those funny arguments we all had about the "bests". I think music , especially guitar and drums, was another sport we just loved. It was harmless.
Anyway, Peter Frampton always came out of my mouth, usually before John Lennon😂. And I used to be a real good guitar player and had some cred. I stuck by it too. Song writing (as good as they get), his playing (chops and musical sensibility), his unmatched "outdoor/spacious" tone, his singing and performing for goodness sake.
I'd look at people like they were from Pluto for not considering him.
He's like Rock's Jerry Reed as far as I'm concerned.
Had humor and no depresso music.
Best "outdoor":sound I've ever heard created in an indoor "casino". Mind blowing!
A very weak argument.
Always brings me back to the summer of 76. 10 years old just becoming aware of music.
Yes, beautiful ! 😀
Was a great time to be a kid for sure. Was 8 and a major Kiss fan already. 😂
Thank God for RUclips !!!
Well, that was 25 mins. of pure bliss! Can't believe how much of an influence my older brothers music had on me. Thanks guys. Love ya! Still rocking at 51.
Cool that's just awesome to hear!❤
Looks like he is really enjoying the show and connecting with his band and audience. lots of bands today don't have that stage presence.
Have the album Frampton comes alive & the CD to just can't get enough listen to it all the time. It's just so awesome and takes me back to the great times, good thing my memory is still great at 61 but just good music!!!!
Of all the countless times I've listened to this song since high school in 1977, tonight it finally hit me, even though this is Pete's song, his band, his moment in rock and roll, how great it would be to hear this song either done by vintage Humble Pie, or with a guest appearance by Steve Marriott...
For 1977, the footage is amazingly crisp and fluid!
This was the generation of musicians that can really be proud of their artistic achievement..
Still playing the Frampton Comes Alive vinyl, superb tracks and as has been said here, what a crowd pleaser he was and audience participation was the greatest of the day.
No body was bigger than Framp back then. Do You Feel was on the radio 24/7.
Micheal Jackson?
@ Flip. No, because MJ's music was the 80's & 90's
Getrealpeeps True. This was the 70s... But you can't really say that Jackson 5 were not popular. But i will agree that they were probably not more popular than this guy. But Off The Wall came out at the very end of 1970s.
Painter Dood Absolutely. Still hear it on classic stations 41 yrs later. I will guarantee it will be listened to 41 yrs from now as well. Absolutely love this song. Go Peter.

The best live performance I've ever seen!
First time I heard the live cut was when I stopped at a buddy's apartment late on a Sunday night. Walked in and he was getting stoned on some hash, and I joined him. After smoking, he hands me the headphones and says enjoy. the guitar solo and closing resulted in a mind orgasm I'll never forget. I've loved this song since.
Wow, this even much longer rendition than the usual 14:17 version that we normally hear is SO AWESOME! Peter Frampton was like to coolest dude back then. What I would give to go back in time and attend that concert!
I was there, it actually lasted for 47 minutes, not the 24 here, so they cut out a lot of the playing around and jumping up on the piano. Entire show rocked, Skynryd was mindblowingly good that day!
❤

Cool thing is she's on film catching it!
This was the top of the world for frampton at this point in time! And he's still great today!
Why haven't I seen this before????? Been a huge fan for many years, but this is AWESOME!!!!!
This was back when California was great!!!!
Frampton is a great guitar player !
Every musician up there was playing very difficult parts! Awesome live music! 😍
Frampton was great, but Bob Mayo makes that Fender Rhodes sound INCREDIBLE! Great backing vocals too!
Wow Frampton was GREAT. ...PROBABLY A MASSIVE UNDERSTATEMENT.
Still so entertaining 30+ years later :-)
Thanks Peter!
Boy what a time to be young!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was 19 in 1977 and I saw Frampton only once in a small venue of 17,000. Frampton played everywhere and that's what I loved about him. I was in the first row of that concert in Memphs and I got a great pic that I still have today of him putting his hand behind his ear as he does here wanting everyone to shout, sing be a part of his concerts. He was dressed in a gold mesh shirt and gold satan bell bottom pants. And that hair, OMG!!! He was just phenomenal. Probably the best concert I ever attended and I went to about a 100 for two decades, back when you could afford a ticket. LOL! I wore the groves off Frampton Comes Alive then bought the CD. But I still have my original vinyl album..
And now he lives in Nashville less than 200 miles away. Who would a thought? And at 66, although bald, and gray he still has pretty much the same voice, but he's lost his mainly British accent. What I wouldn't give to go back to that time when music was great. But I'm still rockin out with the best bands for over four decades. My mom thought I would outgrow R&R. Not a chance.
Thank you so much for your nice comment. kindly message me on my personal hangout.

It’s interesting that Peter’s most successful recordings were both live albums: “Rockin’ the Fillmore” with Humble Pie, and four years later he did it again with “Frampton Comes Alive”. A unique career.
He looks like a surfing legend of that era. 🤙
What great music. Can't believe it's been almost 38 years ago.
I went to 3 DOG's & all of them were awesome, Thank you BIll G for capturing some of the greatest artiest of the time .
Never have seen anyone with such purely joyful exuberance to be performing. Even just a few years ago, I think it was maybe on "Good Morning America", you could just see in his face he STILL was having the time of his life.
Peter Frampton was always an under rated guitarist
Peter Frampton has to be one of the greatest artists of all time. Especially in the middle to late 70's. It's a shame how his career ended the way it did. That just goes to show how a good thing has to be made the most out of, and Peter did. It's truly amazing how he is able to have such control over that Les Paul and the other instruments. It's pure talent.
His career ended?? I'm pretty sure he still plays.
@@michaelmurphy987 He's sick....I saw that months ago online. But @ that time, he was still doing concerts.

Sooo miss the 70s & the unbelievable great music made This stuff still flows through my veins & rars

My new favorite drummer!!
I never knew Peter could play the drums too. A man of many talents!
I was 15 when this concert was performed
Had the Frampton comes Alive Album and played the shit out of it. His posters covered my walls
Truly diggin' my man on the keyboard.
Bob Mayo on the keyboard. Bob Mayo.
That Fender Rhodes is singing ain't it! Bob Mayo!
what a classy young man he was, and very talented on a guitar
I saw his concert at Winterland, San Francisco, June 17, 1975. One of the concerts on his Frampton Comes Alive! double live album released in 1976. Great music. There were also alot of diabetics. That's why so many sugar cubes were being passed around. :)!! He also staid on stages and didn't wander off during the keyboard solo. He was fresh and new. And so were we. The voice box blew our minds. Especially on the sugar high.
Lady BlackstarDust I was there too, first real concert for me. I can remember my brother taking me to the side of the stage where I just watched, enthralled. Such fantastic times!!!!!
This means as much to me now as it did when I was 10 . I love Peter Frampton . Always has been a class act . 👍👍❤
God bless our special forces that rescue people from underground in the d.u.m.b.s.
May you and your families be well and blissful ALWAYS!!! These cheers of the crowd are the vibes I feel for you!!!
Frampton was a master.
That was one hell of a performance, truly awesome.
Great performer and I forgot how young he was, Fantastic show.
10.00 tickets. No fancy laser lights or pretentious bs. Just rock and roll. Simpler easier times. Frampton was peaking in popularity. These guys are 38 yrs older now. I was 16. Where have the years and music like this gone. My fav Frampton song.

Wow! I never knew frampton played drums. Fucking phenomenal!
He’s no Edgar Winter though.
@@cincylitigator4704 You must be referencing the Frankenstein clip of him. He was indeed laying down the bricks. Most impressive.
Fell in love with the music and the Gibson guitar, so I bought one. It sounds amazing.
The dude could work a crowd. Loved that song back in the day!
