yeah 100% agree on this show having tiresome underage/predatory scenario scenes. honestly most of it i blocked out or didn't realize was weird watching originally when i was a teenager. rewatching this now i totally get a similar reaction😬 some ppl in the comments seem to be debating the legality, but even if they were the same age what jodi did is r@pe.... The show is realistic in other ways it’d be weird if they were shy on SA. SA is so common in dysfunctional families they don’t even always see it that way

Macy as Frank Gallagher is truly the stuff of legend in this show with how ridiculous the scenarios are that he gets himself into & how absolutely vile his decisions become. Just giving you a heads up: it gets worse. This is the Vanilla part. Just wait until Debbie “grows” up & Fiona goes… well…Fiona. When it comes to the kids, my two favorites are Carl & Liam but when it comes the best characters out of the entire show who I would want to have as neighbors (besides Joan Cusack as Sheila who was iconic), it’s gotta be V & Kev 🤣❤️
My friend’s parents forced him to go to conversion therapy as a teenager and at least from his experience the actual “intimacy therapy” that they did in the show wasn’t part of it but adult visual aids were. And he was SA’d by his counselor which probably isn’t the norm but even without that conversion therapy is disgusting and barbaric.
People tend to forget also that jody and karen are married. Whether she is 17 or not she is emancipated in the eyes of the law and is therefore legally able to have sexual relations with her husband. Also age of consent in Illinois is 17 so she is very much legally able to consent to sexual relations with jody. This is why they show sexual relations with lip karen mandy etc because they are of age in illinois law. Ian and mickey are underage which is why their scenes are implied but not explicit

It doesn't matter how much of a sex addict they are, assault is assault. As for the "he's a moron" defense, that again does NOT excuse anything. Thinking something is okay doesn't make it okay, if anyone is stupid enough to think going down on a girl in a coma is acceptable then that's their problem. I really hate the way this show handles sexual topics sometimes, especially when it involves the kids, and this is one example of that. The characters might not take it seriously but it is very serious.

The scene where Jody wakes up Karen is clearly played for laughs, and it literally works in bringing her back. It's a GOOD THING in the show that he did that to her. I can still enjoy the show, but we can't deny the reality that the writers were just trying to be edgy and not taking these topics very seriously.
