I carry a small can of lighter fluid and a peanut lighter in a ziplock bag that's also doubled and tied. I've got the candle and the Gorilla tape, We dont have birches of pines here, so fatwood, birchbark, resin, are not available. Even cedar bark is rarely found. Most of the year, the debris wet/rotten So it's all about having to split open or shave dead standing wood in order to get dry shavings. That's a royal PITA, so I dont do it, normally.
learn the alternative Swedish fire torch, or 2, to ignite a Siberian fire lay. The Siberian projects all of its heat in one direction, twice as far as a normal fire. Because the Siberian burns up in the air, there's few popping embers and the extra range of its heat means that it's much less risk of igniting your synthetic gear.
My wife and I like to go camp in obscure places not at camp grounds .We will purposefully take the absolute minimal amount.of gear so we have to figure out how to make things work when you dont have what you need.We invited a friend and his wife to go with us on one of our survival / camping trips so we told them to bring the bare minimum of what they will need to get by.They showed up at our house with their .minivan loaded down with camping gear and a generator and a portable TV and cots and so on.I said if that is the bare minimum id hate to see what it looks like when they go prepared.Anyway they chose not to go after I told them they would have to pack all of that crap about 3 miles into the woods while walking, there is no trail for vehicles.
😂 I love stories like this! Yes- this reminds me of a very similar story that happened to me. I was teaching a survival class on a primitive campground and several of the students arrived with the same stuff.. Crazy what some people consider the minimum lol.. Thanks for sharing! Good for y’all on training 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
my gear and clothing let me sleep just fine at 34F, in wind and rain, so I just wait out the bad weather, unless I know that it's likely to get much worse. Then you need real shelter, which means get moving and looking for such, not messing around with a tarp leanto out in the open, bothering with twigs. If you've got the clothing to keep you warm and dry while you go out into the rain for more firewood, you didn't need the fire for warmth in the first place. So that's best, man, knowinng what clothing and gear to have and HAVING it when it's needed.
Great content, as always! Just a quick off-topic question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (mistake turkey blossom warfare blade until bachelor fall squeeze today flee guitar). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
i found that if I twist the "cut leaf' type of camo net so that the "leaves" CANNOT just "lay flat" and I wrap the nets around my legs, between a couple of Amazon bugnet "suits', worn as long johns, this provides truly excellent insulation. The synthetics dont get wet and they dont let my cammies get wet, All of my gear has other uses, including being worn as clothing. The two taped-together SOL "heat sheets" envelope the 2GoSystems XL size reflective tyvek bivy, in the net hammock and I dont have to bother with anything else, until it gets down to 20F or so. Then I have to break out the handwarmers and maybe the UCO lantern. If need be, I light a fire long enough to heat up some rocks or wate bottles . With such items in the bivy I gain another 10f or so. .this all means that it[s got to be gd cold for me to need a fire for warmth and I just dont go out into such weather. there's nothing out there, If this is some sort of shtf event, and you havent already laid in your winter's supply of food before it starts freezing, you're going to die. It's just a question of when and of what.
Fire's doint keep you warm and dry as you get more firewood, water, food, or as you hike The right kind/amount of clothing WILL do that, and if you have that gear clothing, you probably dont need a fire, and you certainly dont need it if it's raining, cause 31F degrees just aint that cold.
Amazon was good at first till they changed how they ship products. You place your order and it takes longer days to ship & when they do good luck trying to track it. They don't give no time no nothing like they used to. It's now just it arrived in a facility of a certain state and that's it. Expected day of arrival but still no tracking on where it's at or how it's shipped. Then if you order the economic climate route with fewer boxes and fewer trips they come in different packages and different days and sometimes they don't even come at all. I'd rather order from eBay or another trusted source cause Amazon has completely dropped the ball.
NEEDING a fire means you've screwed up. You dont have a water filter or you're let if freeze/be ruined. You dont have water treatment chemicals, so you have to boil water, You lack proper clothing and/or shelter elements, you've let yourself get-wet, You're out in the wind with out a bivy, etc, 34F, wind and rain is the worst possible conditions for fire, but if it's wet, it's 31F or warmer. that's not very cold, IF you stay dry. A fire doesnt get you out of the rain or the wind. and it MAKES you go out into the wind and rain to get more firewood. How about just not being lazy and stupid and carry enough for the right gear/clothing to not need a fire. ? How about that? Lots of times and places, there aint enough stuff to maintain a fire, and/or you're too sick/hurt to keep it going. So you'd BETTER carry enough sleep shelter gear, enough chemical hand warmers, a UCO lantern and beeswax candles, and either have cell service, a rental sattellite phone, or a competent partner. People die out there all of the time, for lack of proper gear/clothiing.
I couldn’t agree more.. You’re absolutely correct! This is our focus on the channel for the majority of our content. This one was just to help some folks out that haven’t done what you’ve pointed out 👍🏻
Man, so true! The worse the conditions, the more prep.
Gotta work for it when it matters 👊🏻

I appreciate that but I have to admit- I’m a little confused on the question. I’m not familiar.. Could you elaborate for me?
Brand mane for his pack and pants.
The pack is a Hill People Gear model Aston.. The pants are Fjallraven “Vida Prod” (non ventilated) 👍🏻

You always set up camp near poison ivy vines? If I got that close I'd be covered in rash.
Thank God I’m not allergic! There is a LOT of poison ivy in the area I live in…

I’ve been blessed so far without too many issues.. I suppose they are so large it’s growing faster than they can keep up with..
