I sang rock-a-bye to my baby brother when he was a babe I eventually got bored of the more common ones so I went to one's in different languages like Russian because I thought it had a nice soothing tune and both he and I had enjoyed it and I eventually began to sing it to him when we went for walks. Imagine my surprise when I found out bayu bayushki bayu was on her list. It's good to see you feeling a bit better from the plague thank you for posting even with everything going on.
I currently live at indonesia, and at school multiple kids would perform. When i got picked one of the songs was lelo ledhung, i was surprised to know what it is about, but then again one of the origins of alullaby is aparently the dsughter dies but the mom still hears the daughter crying each night so the mother says sleep nina, sleep nina, if you don't sleep you will get bitten by a mosquito
Also for the translation it was actually the part which was used for the performance (wonderland indonesia 1) i would say the more excact translation is "Hush my child, don't cry out loud too much, my child whose face is pretty." As for the rest i never learned (altough there is one line we also learned) but anyways there is a little bit of correction
I don’t know most of these, but I remember back in the 1980’s when I was a kid, the horrifying lyrics to a lullaby would make me bust up laughing at first because my mom would exaggerate her voice and face when singing the bad stuff. One time I asked her semi-seriously yet giggling, “Mom, I’m supposed to be able to sleep now?!” She would tell me they made the lyrics bad as a joke so that I’d laugh, be happy, and have no nightmares. It worked too! She made it a funny joke between us, and it worked! 😁💜🌷

Hi Jessie, I'm Trinidadian and I bet almost every baby on this Carribean island has heard this song lol and my parents sang it to me every night and you did pronounce it correctly don't mind the words when an actual Trini sings it, it sounds more like it cuz we speak "Dial" it's like slang that's kinda why the words are weird when not translated but yeah (ik no ones gonna see this but it's here)
I love the last one because it has a moral of the story that was told in the song don’t go nowhere outside by yourself until your older and I like the last one because it rhyme.

I am from Trinidad . My parents always talk about it. But I didn't understand. You should come to the Caribbean sometime and visit them. Nice for a vacation
Growing up my mom would sing to me : hush little baby, you are my sunshine, rockabye baby, baby beluga, etc. The whole shabang
Hi Jessie, I'm Trinidadian and I bet almost every baby on this Carribean island has heard this song lol and my parents sang it to me every night and you did pronounce it correctly don't mind the words when an actual Trini sings it, it sounds more like it cuz we speak "Dial" it's like slang that's kinda why the words are weird when not translated but yeah (ik no ones gonna see this but it's here)
The last story reminded me of the story Jack and Jill went up the hill
Theres this philippines folk song called ili ili tulog anay. This has a dark history this is a visayan folk lulluby
I have her rocking my baby when I was a baby, you know, my mom. Used to sing that to me so I can go to bed.
I love the last one because it has a moral of the story that was told in the song don’t go nowhere outside by yourself until your older and I like the last one because it rhyme.
So if I don’t take my sleeping pills, Mr Krabs will eat me 🙀
Hey Jess, I am Trinidadian but never heard this before. But the soucouyant is pronounced as soocunya.
Whatever I'm singing to my baby sister or baby brother. When my mom gets pregnant me:LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
