Jae B or maybe it’s because of the hormonal imbalance that most/ a lot of women have, which causes breakouts. And women’s skin is far more sensitive to dirt and the environment than men’s skin. :p
Men have higher collagen density. Lots of women back in the day (pre-retin-a) didn't 'tamper' with their skin, and their skin aged faster compared to using these 'molesting' products, lol.
Oils cannot hydrate , only water based products can , oils can only moisturize Hydration =water (hylauronic acid , aloe Vera etc.) Moisturize= oils ,occlusives (dimethicone, oils such as jojoba , olive , baobab) Not hating on her just some info .
Gabriel Estrada seriously? I was told that even though I have oily skin using oils is good because my skin overproduces oil due to dehydratation.. but based on what you’re saying it would be better to use water based products
Melissa Prins Yes dehydrated skin needs water , so try using a water based serum , some are marketed under oil free moisturizers . Some good ones I enjoy are the Clinique dramatically different hydrating jelly , and a cheaper alternative is the neutrogena hydro boost water gel (I prefer the fragrance free one , they have 2 options a sensitive one and a regular one )
+Melissa Prins Jackie Aina is a youtuber who I love. And she used to have very oily skin she swears by hyaluronic acid. She has a few skin care video talking about it. Desi skin I fairly normal so she doesn't have the same issues us oily girls run into with overproducing oils.
Melissa Prins well I have had super oily skin in the past and yes you must hydrate! So going with a gel moisturizer or something more water based is key! But an oil is great for keeping the hydration locked in so your skin won’t dehydrate! Use that with a toner around your oily areas and then the face oil! I use a Pacifica one that’s only $15 that I got at target and my skin is pretty normal now. Also using charcoal based products is good for oily skin like the bioré cleanser (:
To all getting upset with Desi using the marula oil before her night cream: I have asked four aestethician's and two dermatologists regarding the order a face oil is applied in skincare and all six skincare professionals told me that it depends on the type of oil and how heavy it is and that also goes for the face cream/moisturizer. Some face oils are lighter in weight and should be applied to the face after serums and before the face cream. You should apply the cream at the end (before sunscreen, if it is in the AM routine). It gets more complicated because you also have to determine how heavy your moisturizer or face cream is. Some are lighter than others depending on their ingredients. Some creams/moisturizers contain occlusive ingredients and they are designed to keep the moisture in the skin. Then there are heavier oils that will not soak into the skin through the cream/moisturizer. Now, I am not a skincare professional so I may not have used all the absolutely correct terminology, but I think you get what I am saying. I know a lot of youtubers etc, have stated that the oil goes last, and I see this is sometimes contradicted within the community, so this is why I have been asking for clarification whenever I have a professional facial or see a dermatologist. So, I guess the bottom line is that there is no hard and fast rule here; you will need to do some research to find out if the oil you are using is heavier than your face cream/moisturizer or not and then you can decide the order to apply it (I have read and heard that marula oil is a lighter oil, so perhaps that is why she is applying it before her night cream). And just to complicate things even more - some face oils are a combination of oils and other ingredients, like vitamin C, squalane, niacinimde etc, and they are a combo oil/serum, some feel this type of combination oil needs to be applied before the final cream. I hope this helps clarify the topic a little bit. I feel bad about how so many people are going after Desi for the way she applied her skincare. She was kind enough to share her routine with us. Thanks!

You shoudn't have any makeup left when you use your toner Desi, that means you didn't cleanse well enough, the pad should be clean when you use the toner

Really?! I didn’t know this. So I shouldn’t be putting on my Luna Sleeping Night oil first THEN my moisturizer?! So I’ve been wasting all that money! Ugh.
Jennifer Autry No. It goes cleanser(s), toner, mist/hydrosol, serum/treatments, moisturizer cream, oil, balm. Of course not all of these steps are required or used by everyone but that's the order as I understand it. The moisturizer/cream product goes BEFORE the oil.
Because it's applied the wrong way. And she still had makeup on when starting applying skincare. :) She might know a thing or 2 about makeup but not about a correct skincare routine. Watch Gotamista for the correct tips.

What’s the point in putting on such expensive moisturiser if it’s just going to sit on top of your oil.
how do you use oil cleanser? I thought one of its purposes was to break down makeup? I personally use an oil cleanser versus a makeup wipe because it’s better for my skin.
You should typically massage the oil cleanser into dry skin, then emulsify it with water and massage and wash off. That is the process that actually helps to break up and dissolve the makeup or build up on your face.
Preetha Sarkar thank you. You described it perfectly! When Desi missed the water and went straight to wiping it off, she didn’t remove her make up properly. That’s why she still had some on when she toned.
Tui Guy-Williams I agree about her not rinsing the oil cleanser but she used the facial oil the right way. She used the oil as a moisturizer itself so that's what it'll do and applied the night treatment/mask at the last and night masks are ALWAYS the last step. You don't apply night mask before your moisturizer, do you?
Expensive for no reason...I don't know why it has such a high price point and why its called "luxury" oil. It's not as common as olive or coconut oil, but it's not worth the price. Cold press, unrefined, virgin oil can be bought for less.
Nia A agreed while i like a lot of their products I don't trust any brand that markets a virgin oil over 20 dollars. At that point you are paying for packaging, marketing, pr, and just yr usual retail markups rather than the actual product. For face oils I typically buy in bulk and make my own (except for the sunday riley ufo which has ingredients that are less easily accessible, that is the one face oil ill buy)!
Ace Huang I have The Ordinary marula oil, cheap and I've been told that a percentage of Drunk Elephants' sales go to an elephant charity. However, let's be honest, people are just paying for the packaging and everything else you mentioned

Their at a hotel dear, ☺️
I thought face oil has to be applied after moisturizer, since it takes longer time to absorb it by skin...
Sunny Way I was just saying this, her moisturizer isn’t gonna do anything because it cannot penetrate the oil.
Yeah youre supposed to got from lighter to thicker texture
You put water soluble products on first (toners, creams, serums, etc.) then oils. Oil will act as a barrier that will prevent anything from getting soaked into your skin. So that bougie face cream she's using is literally a giant waste of money lol
Danielle Bateman good to know. I did not know this
Mud mask or toner ? Which one is first ?
The scrunchie is GIANT!!!

Isn't it oil after cream ?
Sri Pujha Oils can’t penetrate creams but cremes can penetrate oils :-)
YES it's cream FIRST then oil!
You're wrong, honey. Oils can penetrate creams but not vice versa. Look it up.
I believe anything containing water should be applied first/lightest to heaviest products. Which would mean oil should be applied last.
I think it is cream first too and that most oils don’t even penetrate our skin at a deep level just act as a barrier to lock in moisture.
QUEEN DESI... Sven at the end, priceless 😂❤️

YAAAS DESI!!!
I love the products used in this routine, mostly the silk face pads. where can I purchase those? Right now I use cotton and they are so irritating because they tear as I go through my skincare routine. I have tried so many different brands and still the same result!
