It’s Time for a Radical Choice - Bishop Barron’s Sunday Sermon

- Friends, in our first reading today, Solomon finds that all the power and wealth of the world are nothing compared to the gift of wisdom-seeing life from the perspective of God. Although this gift seems to help one further amass wealth, in today’s Gospel, Christ teaches us that to use the gifts of the world properly, we must give them away so we can follow him.

For the first time i evangelized this Sunday. I went into a shop and me and this lady started to talk about the bible. And she said >>>>i use to be Catholic but i go to a non-denominational church. I could hear it in her voice that their was a void and unsureness of joining this worship group...i told her you are still Catholic. Now im on a hunt for a Bible. Oh Lord of Host, send me where you need me. For your Glory and Honor. Please pray for this Lady.
Amen.
People left the Catholic church because they are not fully aware of the teachings of the church.

nice too
Dang, this is good stuff. I'm going to be open and honest with you all, for about a year I was totally infatuated with getting the perfect classical men's wardrobe: Suits, sportcoats, dress shoes, the whole works. For the longest time whenever I would think about this very passage I would actually tell myself, "Yes Lord I'll give everything up...except this." It was like this about two years ago with video games. And for my entire life I have always wanted the honor of men. But one thing after another, I know that the Lord (through the power of the sacraments of the Holy Eucharist and Confession) is peeling away each of these addictions in my life so that I may follow him more closely; that I am better (not perfectly) able to say, "Yes Lord I will totally follow you."
But everyone please pray for me that I may have one more thing peeled away which is to listen to more RUclipss and podcasts rather than do some actual spiritual reading. It's another weakness of Sloth that I have a really hard time overcoming.
Thank you Bishop Barron for all you and the team at Word On Fire do. Your ministry helped bring me and my family to the Church.
I think you are an example of what the rich young man would do to amend his life one day at a time.
His inquiry to Jesus was true and he would carry this cross daily and eventual give it up for God.
Your life is an example that all with any level of wealth face as we move through life. Bishop Barron is the ultimate AWAKENER, the best example of preaching with God-given insight who has crossed my life and whose homilies I listen to each Sunday as part of my preparation for going to Mass. His consistency about preaching the truth found in the Gospels and in the Old Testament helps me to return time and again to assess how I am living my life DAILY. Please don't throw yourself under the bus. Instead, the gift from God is you are awake! You know there is work to do and you are doing it. Are you there yet, no. But none of us are "there yet." We are all sinners, have things we are working through but are ON THE PATH that Jesus would have us take. In my experience the key is that we are open in mind and heart to His teachings, to being guided and corrected as needed, to developing the "wisdom" to assess OURSELVES, and to make the changes needed to draw closer to Jesus each day. I liken humans to onions with many layers. To get to our core, there are many layers that need to be peeled back that we become closer to what Matthew Kelly describes as "the best version of ourselves." I like to think of this version of ourselves as who Jesus sees when He looks at us. You might want to read
Life is Messy, by Matthew Kelly. In his own way he describes what we all face as we live our lives each day. I will pray for Bishop Barron, for you and for all who are on our journey to Jesus in our lives. May God continue to guide us all each day IF WE LET HIM.
I will pray for you.
I will pray for you, please pray for me too. I am addicted to looking good, and like the praise. This was a great awakening.
@@jessicablack6473 thank you for praying, believe me it’s hard to let go of those kind of things. Aquinas makes that list of the 4 addictions: Wealth, Power, Pleasure and Honor. Honor has always been a tough one for me.
It is time for a radical choice! Only by grace can we fly.
So often, we would rather be safe than saved.
I enjoy your talks very much Bishop Barron! Thank you for sharing you spirituality & your knowledge! May God Bless you Father!

I have come to realize that God calls us to obtain genuine wisdom. His wisdom. The wisdom that leads us to change. Real change. The type of change that leads us to empty ourselves and to become more like God himself. Eternal life.

Yes! Pascal’s awesome
Excellent message, but hard to take and harder to live. May God give us all strength to live it!
Reading these passages today, it suddenly dawned on me: wisdom is not only to gain knowledge, but to cast away useless things. Many of us lack wisdom, the younger we are the worse it often is. To try to live in “the moment” of the culture is seemingly to reject Gods wisdom and instead to allow ourselves to remain chained in our foolishness. The irony is that we are told we are free if we reject God and traditionalism, when at this very moment the world is full of people all chained by one poisonous thing: social media. One moment they are told “here is your salvation, believe in this, buy that, click this” and the next they are told “the world is ending, your neighbors are evil, your ancestors were evil, you are evil”. It’s it any wonder mental health is at an all time low? Instead of giving our troubles to God the current world demands we place them on our backs.
Thanks Bishop

Okay, Bishop Barron is oficially the best. How is he always able to interpret the Bible in such a wonderful, wise, clear, meaningful way? This explanation of this part of the gospel is literally what I needed to hear so much. Because that kid from today’s gospel, that’s literally me, and I’ve been realizing it for quite some time. Thank you, Bishop, for making me realize that a radical choice for the goods of the heart is really really necessary!
The Great Evangelizer 🌹☀️🐟🙏
I hear you; I was asking myself at mass this morning, "What the h___ is sin, anyway?" Well, as Bishop Barron explained, sin is preferring the goods of this world to Jesus Christ. (In case anyone's wondering, no I didn't receive Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament this morning - you know how it is, if you want to be in a club, you play by the club's rules.)
That's a great comment, Sarah☆

Well said! I’m publishing a weekly RUclips video on episodes from the life of Don Bosco, entitled ST JOHN BOSCO by JOE ZAMMIT. In this series I’m narrating events and miracles from the splendid life of Don Bosco. St John Bosco used to perform a miracle almost every day, through the intercession of Mary Help of Christians. From the lives of saints we can learn how to love God more and draw closer to him. Thank you.

“God is Great”
Thank you for your preaching. :)
And with your spirit.
Thankyou. I believe God is calling the church to a radical commitment to him in these days, just as Satan is driving the world to a similar commitment. The battle lines are drawing up and the choice will become clearer as the months and years unfold. But this is God's world, and we know that whatever happens, He is with us now and always.
Whatever be our background and our outlook in life, the readings make one thing clear… The only way to experience heaven, is to let go off our earthly burden! And like a camel go through the eye of the needle by unloading it's burden.
That's beautifully interesting.
After fifty years of hearing that passage and several explanations and interpretations, this one is best. Thank you
Lol, don't you know that that word "camel" is almost certainly a mistranslation of the very similar ancient Greek word for "thick rope".

@Skelley-Priest All I am doing is pointing out that when Christians assert that they are speaking Jesus's words, they cannot know what Jesus actually might of said.

Prayers for you Bishop. I love your beautiful calling and how you use it for God's glory!
All of what you said strikes a chord with me. I had a strange experience in which I visioned a pair of men's hands, they were very well manicured, and I wondered what it was all about - then one day while watching a SC fi movie the camera zoomed in on the mans hands, and I thought, they're the hands I saw in my inner vision, but what I really focused on were his words at that moment - The man was a doctor and he was saying to someone about to be operated on: " Be the human being I created you to be, take the final leap of faith, I'm with you all the way, and what ever happens I'll be there to wake you up. I instinctively new it was from a message from God. God bless.
