    So true, 4c hair florishes when you leave it alone as much as possible. It doesn't like to be touched too much, which makes sense because the individual strands are thin(though it "looks" thick). Ladies think about how long your hair was as a child, because mom put in plaits or cornrows, and only took them down to wash your hair, and then it went back in plaits or cornrows.

    Your hair looks great and has grown nicely. I've been natural for 8 years now for the second time around, but cut it short last year to hopefully save some time. I didn't like it at all so I'm growing it bak out. I haven't been good w/taking care of it because of nursing school. I graduate next month, so I'm planning to get semi-serious again about hair care. Thanks for sharing...your videos are always informative and helpful! You're in nursing school too right? Don't cut your hair...just bun it!

    Beautiful! I am loving your makeup! Hair lo know s wonderful too! Thanks for the tips. I believe I have tried every way to wash my hair for less tangles. I have come to the conclusion that washing it loose is best for me. Seems strange though. Lol. Wash in twists leaves my hair tangled badly at the roots. Washing in sections is better but still a no. I think maybe the water running through it helps to detail my hair.

    • @AkushikaGoneNatural
      @AkushikaGoneNatural  9 лет назад

      Ashababy O Thanks so much....washing it loose, wow, what hair type do you have??....I usually wash in twists...and airdry a little bit, and then unravel each twist, moisturize, detangle, and retwist...so it prevents tangling at the roots....

    • @AshababyO
      @AshababyO 9 лет назад

      Mine is said to be 3c/4a. I have to wash, then I can put in DC and twist. I unravel to rinse out DC, then add leave in and twist back up to let dry a bit. Then go to moisturize and style.

    • @AkushikaGoneNatural
      @AkushikaGoneNatural  9 лет назад +3

      Ashababy O I totally get it....looser coiled strands are easier to wash loose than kinkier 4c strands....that's a plus for you ;)

    I know one of the big DONT's of Natural hair is Don't compare your hair to others. But, I have a little envy for your growth! I do believe last year was a bad year for retention for me. I'm going on 3 years and my twistout is NOT hitting my shoulders like that, and our textures are quite similar. I think I was enjoying my puffs too long before washing, and I think I tried an afro that led to lots of tangles which led to me needing a really nice trim. I am going to keep up with protein treatments this year, and also take my updos out a little sooner so I can moisturize my hair. You're so right- our hair loves moisture, and keeping a protective style is no longer protecting if you don't moisturize when needed. I wish I could wash my hair in twists or even plaits, but it doesn't rinse out well enough nor hold in the twists. But I do use sections, and let gravity and water flow work for me in the shower which really helped me have less detangling sections. You gave great tips on here! Officially a new subbie:)

    Hello Akushika!!! My name is Ker'en but you can call me kerducky, lol!!! Great video!! I've been natural for 10 years but I've only been on my healthy hair journey since March of 2012, so I'm 42 months in and I'm enjoying the ride! You RUclips ladies have been such a wonderful blessing for the health of my hair, thank you! My hair used to be a real struggle and concern but not anymore, I'm excited to reach certain length goals and I know now that they are attainable because for the longest time I just thought shoulder length hair was it for me...and I'm not even going to get into my wash day struggles, not tonight, lol!!! Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a wonderful upcoming week! : )

    Thank you for this video! I always say that I have been natural before it was trendy to be natural, LOL (about 20 years) and I still really appreciated the tips you offered. When you have been natural this long, you tend to get lazy over the years. My hair is currently elbow length - has been twice, cut it, donated it, grew it back again - and it is easy to just wash it, knot it up in a bun, go through the horror of detangling, wash, repeat. The last time I washed it, I noticed a lot of damage and i realized that I need to go back to my old routines - the routines that worked in the first place. I started with a nice, good, trim, and am going from there. Your tips are on point! I just needed to hear it again. Thanks!

    Thanks for this video. My daughter has the same hair texture as yours. When I wash her hair I plat it loose and wash and deep condition it. It make a great difference sectioning it off instead of just washing it. We don't have to worry about tangles and its less stress on the hair. Thanks again God bless and keep the information coming. We must help each other :)

    Hi Aushika, your hair looks thick, healthy and beautiful. I have been natural around 4 years, and I feel extremely frustrated these days. I don't know what to do with my hair. I find the longer it gets, the harder to manipulate it. The problem is that I don't have the patience to detangle it and my hair breaks a lot. It is long but it has not the thickness that I want.

    I've been natural for 11+ years. In the earlier years, i did braids. I did braids for years and years. Then I got into weaves. After a couple years of weaves, I started press and curls. I did that on and off (mostly on) for about 5+ years. I am now just starting to love my hair for what it truly is in it's natural state. The only problem is that I have awful heat damage from all those years of press and curls every 2 to 3 weeks. I recently decided that I wasn't going to use heat anymore (it's only been about 2+ months). My goal is a year with no heat. So I am taking and need all the advice I can get to make sure my hair is healthy and manageable throughout this 1 year goal of mine. Your video helped! Thanks!

      After 2 years, cut off the damaged ends, and for the meantime, use protein treatments once every 3 weeks to keep it strong.

      Thank you! Any certain treatments that you recommend?

    • @pearlsamb8299
      @pearlsamb8299 8 лет назад

      +Chay G The ApHogee is a great protein treatment. It does stink. and yes, as protein treatments are supposed to do, your hair will get hard while using it. After, you use the balancing moisturizer (pink bottle- I think that's what it's called), then do a DC (whatever your holy grail is- mine is Alikay Naturals Honey and Sage DC). This can be done every 6 to 8 weeks (some do it every 4 weeks). I've heard of others with heat damage that have used this and it's helped keep their hair strong while they work on restoring their hair. I'm working on using it more myself for my colored hair. I definitely saw a difference in my teeny coil definition (I'm 4c also) after using it.

      I'm 14 and I've been natural all my life as well. I just started taking care of my hair by myself. And now my mom has gotten better with growing her hair and her and I are helping my sister's hair to grow. My hair is kind of on the medium shortish side because I trimmed a lot of it off since I haven't trimmed for 3 years 😂😂. Anyway what do you think you struggle most on?? When it comes to healthy hair and hair growth?

    • @missdestinyunique8065
      @missdestinyunique8065 8 лет назад +2

      I struggle with growth in general. People who just went natural say 1 year or 2 ago have much better luck than me, eventhough I've now been natural for the whole 18 years of my life. lol it sucks. I dont have a steady regimine and that could be one of the big reasons why my growth is lacking

      Destiny Nowden And yeah you have to a good regimen. Try moisturizing your hair everyday or every other day. Trim regularly. And if you're going through breakage try doing a protein treatments. Also do protective styles and massage your scalp once or twice a week or as much as you prefer. Drink lots of water, eat right. Excerise if you can. Do hot oil treatments as a prepoo before you Shampoo your hair

    Hi I'm Milicent and decided three years ago to stop relaxing my hair, 1st I didn't like the time it took getting it done, 2nd the day after I could never keep the style. And after being feed up I went to the barber shop and had it cut all of except on one side which I grew long. After two months I had the side cut off. My hair is a combination of 4c and 4b and extremely dry! Thank you so much about the tip on keeping the hair well hydrated. Still haven't found a style but being almost 60 I have at least 40 years to work on it......

  • @kfun9862
    @kfun9862 9 лет назад

    I like that your hair represents typical HEALTHY 4c hair growth that is moisturized. Some POPULAR hair vloggers claim that 4c hair is dry, nothing can be done about it and implies that those with 4c hair should just accept dryness. I have a good moisture regimen that works on my 4c hair. However, since my hair has started to grow, I've had to change my hair wash method, due to tangles. Naptural 85 has a really good tutorial for detangling and washing. It works very well, but she also has a looser grade of hair. During the wash, it will retangle slightly, but not as bad as it once did without the naptural85 method. I will supplement her method with your hair wash method by washing it in twists, since I have 4c hair. Great video!

I initially began wearing braids. For the past 15-120 years I mainly wear twists. Based on your suggestions, I need to add the protein treatment. I also wash my hair in twist, deep condition and get under a humidifier. I moisturize daily with a leave in conditioner.

    Love your hair! I am also 4C. What did you use to achieve this look? My twist outs never last. They turn into an afro. Please share. New subbie.

    Hi, I just subscribed. I just did my big chop almost two weeks ago. I really do not know my hair texture, but I think it is a mixture of 4B and 4C ( I have family members that have 4A,4B and 4C hair types). My hair is more coil and thick. Before I cut my hair, I went natural for about 8 months. I am thinking about getting a (light) taper around my sideburns and back of my nape this Friday. I am looking forwards to learning how to take care of my hair as well as messing with protective styles. Right now, my hair is really short.

    Great information, you are beautiful! your hair, eyes and complexion. I'm sure your diet played a role in your hair growth. My big chop/trim was done on my birthday, the first few days in May. I have 4c hair, but I have 2b, 4b, 3c & 2c. At least, I've heard a person can have up to 3 different hair textures on/in one scalp. It seems to be true, and is your hair totally 4c in texture. I found all these textures in my own, but my hair can have that big, fluffy afro look. Sometimes I think it has grown alot, other times I wonder.
    It has grown alot, but it still needs help in some ways.
    I'm doing all I can, what do you think?

    I haven't tried washing in twist but I wash in braids (5 or 6 parts) after finger detangling. and then I wash, do my hair treatment and then rinse and braid it back up until it dries. And I discovered that that allows my hair to stretch a bit.

    Thank you for that, I have started washing my hair and my daughter's hair in big plait as you say it is a lot easier. What denman brush do you use? The first time, I was natural for 11 years, but I got fed up and I texturised my hair and didn't like it, so I transitioned for 10 months and cut my hair on 29 Dec 2013, so I have been natural for the 2nd time for over one year time. It is going a lot better now.

    My last relaxer was January 2012. So that makes me 3 years natural. It's been quite a journey, but it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Great tips on retention. I'm currently at 14"-16" and my hair needs are changing. Any tips?

    So I do flat iron my hair alot, sometimes I just stop for awhile just to let it be free. sometimes I leave it out or twist it and leave it. I do see it's improving since I use natural oils and it doesn't come out in chunks.
