I used to own an f87 m2 comp, and currently in a G series M4, and although the M4 is much faster, I miss the M2C immensely because it was so much more fun. The G series is a MUCH better daily, but it’s less hilarious, more serious
I'm an F82 owner and love the car and puts a smile on my face every time I drive it but the traction in anything other than bone dry roads can be an issue even with Michelin PS4S tyres. The stock 444bhp is more than enough so unless you just love tinkering with your car or you're going to track it, my advice would be don't waste your money tuning it especially with our gridlocked roads because you'll hardly ever be able to enjoy it. I'd say the exhaust is probably money well spent though. The interior in a standard M4 doesn't feel that special either, you really need the extended leather on doors and dash to make it feel more upmarket. The new G82 is light years ahead in terms of materials and build and likewise the F82 is a similar step up from the F87. All great cars though and I'd be happy to take any of them home.
If you have the traction control on or in the "MDM" mode then it flashes and cuts power so much that you feel like the car must have very little traction. In reality when you turn TC fully off you would be amazed how much grip it has and how overkill the TC is, especially in the dry. I actually wanted it to be way more playful under throttle. I mean yeah if its soaking wet and you absolutely floor the throttle from a stand still or at a very low speed while turning a lot then it will start spinning the wheels up but so will any vaguely powerful car
having owned both, I much prefer my OG M2 (maybe that's partly cos its manual and the M4 was DCT). You had to do such silly speeds in the M4 to even feel like you were going fast, and it sounded awful even with an expensive exhaust on it
OG M2 everytime for me They are awesome out the box in every aspect…. Sound awesome Perfect amount of performance for a fast road car. Immensely fun. Only upgrade we’ve done is fitted a pair of M2 comp seats 👌 Those rear hips on the the M2 🤤 M4 just doesn’t do it for me in the looks department
If I was a track slag I'd rather have an F87. But I like being in a nice car day to day, and the inside of my F83 with extended opal leather, leather dash, HK the lot, is just nicer than any 2 series. Even a G87
So sport cat downpipes but no secondary cats. Isn’t that an MOT failure? I want to get equal length mid pipes but I’ve been told it will fail the MOT as the secondary cats have gone?
OE Ikons will be less of a potential headache down the road. Not sure what brand you've been looking at but I've gone with Bayoptiks twice now, on my 335i and my M235i. To me they look even better than the Ikons if you opt for the blacked-out housing. Why I say it's less of a headache is because the plug they used for the switchback ring turn signals, which is an option, wasn't water sealed very well and did corrode. And when I had an accident and had to replace one, I found out after receiving the new headlight that they had changed the LEDs they use. Hard to notice unless you're really looking for it, but the new headlight's DRLs are a bit brighter. Never had someone notice before I mention it though.
As a biased OG M2 owner, there is no debate the s55 is the better engine and m4 wins in that regards. The OG M2 looks way better than the M4 and Stage 2 is plenty of power for the streets and more than enough to send you to jail in a few seconds. The M2c is the best of both worlds if your budget can go a little further.
The better car is objectively the G87 M2. Subjectively, more owners, prospective owners, and fans of the M2, seem to like the F87 M2 more over the G87. This mostly comes down to its exterior looks, of which I agree that the G87 M2 looks horrible. It’s the rear end for me. It’s just very bad looking and almost looks like an afterthought from a room full of drunk 21 year old designers…
