🎸it is one of the most recognizable instruments of all time.Rory’s guitar was listed as one of the 10 Stratocasters to die for and was put on display at a fender exhibition which included guitars that belonged to Jimi Hendrix,Hank Marvin,Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck-but Rory’s stood out. It is so distinctive it needed no explanation as to whom it belonged to.Fender has reproduced Rory’s Strat in every detail. It is certainly on the wish list of many guitarists and fans.Bring it on home to Ireland where it all began.RORY IS IRELANDS PRIDE.THE GALLAGHER LEGACY WILL LIVE LONG AND WILL BE HANDED DOWN TO NEW GENERATIONS.

It could be said that this guitar was Rory's wife. He never got married and never had children but instead dedicated his life to being a gigging musician. That guitar birthed his offspring, his records. I was hooked from the time I heard _Live in Europe_ and I saw him at the Rainbow in Finsbury Park in December 1973 when he was doing the _Blueprint_ tour.

  • @denAlexVA

Thank you! I saw Rory play this strat in DC and I was 10 ft. away. 1971. Now then he also played a mandolin at the show. It was a club in Georgetown. Always loved Taste and his solo band. The best for providing this history to the public. A buddy of mine who was English and played the clubs in London in the 60's and 70's told me that Rory had one of the first strats that came to Ireland and the UK. We might think that this was incredulous? However, the UK was still paying off war debts to the US and there were heavy tariffs on non essential goods, I recall in 1964 (I was 11) seeing a photo in a magazine of a ton of Liverpool bands. Very very few had American guitars due to the cost. They were very expensive. No wonder as time went on that the first stop for British Bands in the US was 48th Street in NYC which had tons of guitar shops. Serious stuff. I recall when the owner of Alex Music on 48th St. gloated at the price that he sold Clapton his Explorer. "I got the best out of him". Five Grand. 1973. Now then, what is it worth today? Even though part of the guitar had been sawed off. Thanks again!

It should be in a museum in Ireland but it will probably end up in Nerdville. The upside is Joe Bonamassa actually plays his vintage guitars on stage.

Has he ever bought any other high-profile guitars? i would have thought it's more likely to be Mr. Irsay who will be after it. But many are hoping it remains in Ireland.

That would be a cool piece to have.

I agree, this guitar must stay in Ireland in a Museum. Rory was an ambassador of the proud Ireland. This says a german guy and Roryfan since 1980.......he wrote the soundtrack of our youth and lives......i would love to visit Ireland one day

That's the whole point Leo fender designed Strats as a working class guitar ..you don't have to be a guitar tec or guitar builder to repair them... the real value is coping his style for fun if you can . save your money for something else like lessons ???😄😄

That guitar should stay in Ireland. Yes, maybe in a museum so people can see it. And it should be played every now and then by invited guitar players.

The estimate of 700- million pounds is clearly conservative. Will easily pass 2 million US- as it should. Hopefully it will end up on display somewhere. It is the most iconic electric of them all, it is literally Rory's sweat and DNA given life in a piece of wood. Even above - "greenie" "blackie" "SRV1" and even Pages No 1. Only Hendrix's Woodstock guitar compares in icon terms.

If it was any other 61 Strat, -20% because of refret, -10% changed tuners, -5% new nut, -5% new pickguard, -20% non original pickup's. I'll give you 1200 quid and I'm doing you a favour!
