    The U.K. should start a massive ad CAMPAIGN of when to call 999.. Also, start fining those who call with stupid problems/

    Imagine being hit with a £1000 fine for being so bloody pathetic! You can face an on the spot fine for littering in the street,hardly a 'life or death' situation,so why not an instant fine for tying up the emergency services which CAN be life or death? Still want to access your password for your ruddy laptop?!

      You have to wait about half an hour sometimes for them to answer though. Because people are probably phoning them about things like computer passwords and spiders in their room. 😃 People seem to be increasingly lacking in common sense and the ability to sort things out for themselves these days.

      @@zakwilderotter8295Even they (the kind of person myself who wants to work for GCHQ) most likely wouldn't give it to them, though really for anything like for them to actually monitor isn't within the system itself it's more whats transmitted from that device as such when it passes the Network Interface Card they know about NIC but then due to the sheer amount of info/data they gather its not likely even the people dealing with that data even know what it's about, for them to actually find out contents of data (only meta data's able to be seen by all of them or ones with that clearance) requires a signed form from a secretary of state.

    • @jsmithmultimediatech
      @jsmithmultimediatech 5 лет назад

      The only time they require the details of such things (though they wouldnt do that directly they'd do it through law enforcement ie the police the part of what used to be where Alan Turing worked for the Code and Cipher school) there's this common law part where any encryption by using the internet without even really knowing it people are bound to surrender any methods of encryption to the public body that's asking for it for law reasons.
      If you were to physically look at your internet connection modem anything that physically (yes physically) passes out onto that across from even the gateway from your ISP and onto the Internet is what they actually look at, not what's behind the modem rather at least.

      @starrtwentyone Ah ransomware as its sometimes more generally called, there are ways to remove that though. DNS poisoning (where the cache of your DNS queries Windows has one, most do *nix based ones not sure if Mac's use the same one called dnsmasq) its where that cache which ever service on a computer a persons using becomes poisoned exploiting a vulnerability that diverts traffic away from legit sites to a fake one.
      Or can be from being vulnerable to XSS or Cross Site Scripting attacks that's another way of people though realistically I doubt that's going to cause something like that, especially when using something like SSL Secure Sockets Layer (https in otherwords but there's multiple other ways of using SSL including the auth details for when you login to email services through port 25 and the rest forgot their port numbers but yeah).

      Katie Ann Doherty the operator's are just trying to make sure the idiot callers understand the situation, that they've rang a life and death emergency line and they shouldn't be calling about stupid stuff, such as passwords for laptops, etc, as if it's some kind of general help line. If they just cut the line, the idiot on the other end would likely just ring back again wasting another operator's time all over again.

    don't know if this would work but I think Emergency service should be able to geolocate the person and the phone number of whoever calls the emergency number. That way, anyone who calls the service with rediculous reasons or make a prank call should be fined a minimum of £150. That way people would be more cautous of the reason they call the number for.
    Also raise more awareness to the general public for what reasons thwy should call the number for via media and posters (perhaps). This way people would have less likely to make an excuse that they did not know the reason to call the number.
    These guys probably do the job to earn money for living and some don't like the job they are in (maybe others do); these idiot callers don't have to make their life more difficult.

Under UK law, a hoax caller is “a person who for the purposes of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to another, sends, or causes to be sent, by means of a public electronic communications network, a message that the person knows to be false”.

    The 101 number definitely needs to be better known. I've had a few cases where I was a little hesitant to dial 999.
    One case was a drunk girl trying to bash down my door, and the other was a drunk man abusing staff in a shop, where he was being charged more than he wanted to pay for his wine.
    Since the door was steel, and reinforced with steel bars it wasn't going anywhere (she didn't have a kilo of C4 kandy AFAIK). In the other case, shop security could probably have handled the situation, so it wasn't an emergency yet, but it looked like it could escalate at any minute.
