    We recently moved East so emptied & canned up 2 LARGE freezers full of food. Did ten 12-quart cases of chicken, ten 12-pint cases each of fish & pork, then 18 pints of butter, waxed 50th s of cheeses, phew! I do a lot of dehydrating also. We ended up moving 128 boxes/cases of canned food I’ve processed. Next is finding a house to put this all in. Did come across toilet paper tubes stuffed with dryer lint to start fires with quickly. YEA. The great thing about moving is I got to touch EVERYTHING we moved which brought to mind what stuff we do have. All this survival stuff…. I’m glad I saw it all so no repeating. We left the southwest corner of Colorado & guess what? Our 5yo daughter was NOT safe in a rural school! We’re now looking at red states only to buy in. Sold our home before listing it at full asking price then out in 45 days. A lot of work yet I can’t be at altitude anymore as my body hates it; a health issue. We put our next phase of life in the Lord’s hand as He’s brought us buyers on 2 diff houses, He knows what we need, and He knows where to put us to serve Him. I do love that we donated 4 truck loads of store bought cases of food to friends & food pantries. Most of the frozen food was donated other than what I canned. AMEN! Time to make another home again.

      That is an incredible amount of work you put in! I know what you mean about having to put hands on everything you own. It definitely puts into perspective everything you have. We have contemplated so many times moving back to a red state. There's a lot of things we do not agree with here. I'm thankful I have always homeschooled but my concern is at some point them going after homeschoolers. My nephew goes to school here and there are so many big issues in the school. Like you, I always trust the Lord and His plans, and He will direct us and let us know where He wants us. Praying for you as you follow His plans for you 🙏 ❤️ 😊

    You might look into a freeze dryer so you can freeze dry a lot of your produce. It tastes much better than dehydrated, which is great. It is an investment however, they're not cheap! Just found your channel, loving it so far!

    • @rockymountainhomesteadangela
      @rockymountainhomesteadangela  Год назад +1

      Thank you for the suggestion, and welcome! Yes, I do plan want to buy one when we get our greenhouse built and are able to produce a lot of our own produce. Because we buy our produce in bulk for now, we just can't justify the cost of one. It's an expensive investment for sure! We would get the large one for our size family, but that large one also requires its own dedicated 20 Amp circuit. Which, with the way we built in all the outlets into the kitchen, that may not be possible. We are hoping to get one next year during the summer! 😊

    • @donnaadkins2429
      @donnaadkins2429 Год назад +2

      @rockymountainhomesteadwith8092 Thanks for your lovely reply. Using a freeze dryer would free up so much space in your freezers, particularly with the produce you buy in bulk. You wouldn't need to use as much mylar and moisture pads, but you'll still need loads of jars though!! You could also look into making 'meals in a jar' for speedy suppers to help use up freezer foods.

    Looks like you may want to consider canning some meat. If you’re getting a cow, maybe can a break much of hamburger into either taco meat or just ground beef that you can throw in casseroles or spaghetti. You could also can a bunch of chicken for chicken salad sandwiches, soup or casseroles. It would definitely clean out a lot of freezer space plus give you some quick meal options
