Wizards is my personal favorite just because I have good memories of watching it with friends when we were teenagers and thinking it was the funniest thing we've ever seen. The ending had us all in stitches. Good times.
My introduction to Ralph Bakshi was actually his HBO mini-series Spicy city. Absolutely noone ever talks about it, but I think it’s pretty amazing bunch of short cyberpunk noir stories.
Love that show!!
I remember that show. Some animated chick would introduce what's going on before the show started.
The other interesting thing about Bakshi is that, due to quirks of circumstance, he spent most of his childhood living in predominantly black areas. He even went to a black school for awhile during the segregation days, the only white kid in the class. This, I think, gave him a really unique perspective on the racial politics of the era - both an insider AND an outsider.
Hey Good Lookin' is my personal favorite.
Makes me happy knowing that people enjoyed it, even if I didn’t
I respect your opinion wholeheartedly. Great video too.
As for Hey Good Lookin' the memes are good too.

Wow man it' is great ! AMERICAN POP & HEAVY METAL( the movie) explodes the brains of young people of 80's !!! The A.I. is rule now but BAKSHI never be forget.Hail hail the true artists ! This is it, a big hug from BRAZIL ( SOUTH AMERICA )Bye.
Thanks a lot for this video ! I always love me some Ralph Bakshi !
great video ive had an interest in a couple of these films before and i didnt know they were from the same man
This made me really want to rewatch all of Bakshi's films, but especially Cool World. I think I hated it the first time I saw it, as it felt to me like a very hastily made ripoff that steadily falls apart the longer it goes on. But hey if it's above Lord of the Rings maybe it's worth another look. I think my favorite of his will always be Fritz.
Rad video.
I actually like HEY GOOD LOOKIN', I would say it's somewhat depressing, but interesting nonetheless.
Watching his films are like eating what you thought was a special brownie but was actually a brownie laced with hallucinogenics and vitamin c vitamin c actually boosts hallucinogenic effects at least when I did studies in health classes read back in the day
I agree to American Pop, i had to watch it twice when i first watched it.
I’m working on some research oriented around bakshi right now and I was wondering if you could source the “form is function” quote around 14:00? And if there are any other solid resources on bakshis work I’d love to hear about them.
I’ve heard him speak on it before but don’t remember the exact place. Closest I can find rn is his quote about animation being technique meeting story at around 10:56 in this video ruclips.net/video/TE9mENS9i4c/видео.htmlsi=ze6b352VLKW8NRMN
I loved American Pop!
Fantstic video. Cool World is a movie i desperately WANT to like but can't. I wish it was allowed to e the R rated weird film that Bakshi originally intended.
As it stands, its not even fun like 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit'. More dull. Thought His artwork in the backgrounds of Cool World are fantastic.
Understandable. I had low expectations going on so I was able to enjoy it for what it was
Mmmm…
Dude, it never dawned on me that Wizards can also be seen as a commentary on WWII itself. I'd only been seeing the use of Nazi imagery as a commentary on the nature of propaganda. Wizards is DEEP!!
Also, TOTALLY AGREE ABOUT AMERICAN POP!! It's one of my favorite movies EVER!!!
