Pep has this tendency of playing players out of their position (stones to RB, dinho to CB , and cancelo to LB) in crucial games. He had all the combinations available from the start , but decided to sub dinho for zinchenko at half time only and solved the fluency problem. The first villa goal would not have been conceded if stones was playing CB. Nevertheless, still the best manager, made all the changes in time for the wonderful finish to the game
Cancelo plays LB all the time, so that’s not really out of position. And Stones has been playing RB for a good while now. I don’t think Pep anticipated how much a problem Watkins would pose by himself. He changed it and got it absolutely correct

City got to the UCL final last season because he decided to switch Cancelo to LB and put KDB at false nine and Foden on the left wing, and even put Gundo in a more advanced position. This season Jesus heavily improved due to a position change to RW as well as putting Ake at LB at times as well as Stones at RB. The game against Villa is the only time Stones at RB didn’t work but ofc that’s what you focus on to feed the agenda against Pep

Only Dias has had a great first season at City. Rodri is integral to the side but has been poor for two years before this season. Grealish has had a better first season than Bernado and Mahrez too.
