I'm not from Baltimore, nor am I a Colts fan but those images from 1984 are surreal. I remember those cars, the way those Mayflower trucks looked, those haircuts on those blue collar people. I was 6 years old at the time, almost 7 but I remember. I also understand that woodsy area of where the complex is in Owings Mills has been built up with shops and restaurants.
It’s now the site of the Football and Lacrosse stadium for Division 3 Stevenson University. The Stars did move there while the USFL Lawsuit was being appealed, the should have moved when they were moving to Baltimore so they would have had a presence in the Baltimore area.
Yeah, this is why I had to watch this as a Cleveland Browns fan. How could football fans in Baltimore experience this and then be ok with doing it to another city a decade later.
Here's the difference: Baltimore tried to gfet a team when the NFL added two teams. They had the best offer on the table. The NFL awarded the franchises to Charlotte and Jacksonville. Jacsonville over Baltimore!. Tagliabue had a snide remark, and said Baltimore should use the money to build a museum. The only option left was to entice another team. Cleveland was awarded a team right away, and was able to keep the name and history. Why didn't the NFL do that for Baltimore? If they did not do that for Cleveland, they most likely woulds have tried to entice a team to move there.
