    Glycine makes the best sub $1,000 Swiss watch - better than anyone else by far.

    Very thorough review! I have the Green colored version GL0383. Great watch and even wears very comfortable on my 6.5" wrist. Love how thin it is and I totally agree, better value and quality compared to the new Seiko SSK GMT.

      As you can tell, there's a lot to like and appreciate in this and the other Combat Subs. I like the new Seiko 5 Sports GMTs. Given what's already been out for a long time already, it doesn't really bring anything new to the table other than itself to the (GMT) table, finally. I'll say the lower cost for the movement is what makes it enticing for other brands to use. But, I'm more interested in the new Miyota 9075 GMT movement cause it's a true/traveler's GMT movement for probably the least expensive cost.
      Thanks for watching.

      @@khronokraze Totally agree! And with the Miyota movement, which is thinner, I hope microbrands can come up with Sub 40mm watches, which is an untapped market with very little options. I think that smaller watches are coming back in style.

      They are great watches. Glycine uses good materials and movements. The reason for the hate is they are owned by invicta. When you buy an invicta you have to look at what materials they use in the watch ⌚ some invictas are trash, and some are well made watches ⌚️

    • @khronokraze
      @khronokraze  4 месяца назад

      @TheSilvertrigger I agree. Hey, I had an early period of MANY Invictas. This was about pre-2013. They actually had a decent amount of ok looking unique pieces in there main catalog, which was my mindset back then. They have since become much more louder and outlandish. Going back to my Invicta days, the quality certainly varies. But, they had some pretty decent movements and alternative materials and even quite a lot of dial and case construction detail and components. I chuckle a bit at what people are raving about these days in microbrands and even some more mainstream brands in comparison as I know Invicta was doing them quite a long time ago.
      Anyways, people need to open their eyes and really learn about various watches before they just blindly hop on the hate wagon.
      At a point where I'm being more selective and making cuts in the collection. 2 of my strongest keepers are Glycines. They run as good, if not better, than any of my Japanese, Swiss, German and French brand watches.

    I have the bronze version, and it sits low and comfortably on my 7.5" wrist. I usually wear it on a leather strap. The last time I wore it for 14 days straight, it was +1 sec, not per day, but for the entire 2 week period. Hard to beat for $559.

    I know its probably a little late to ask but I see you have also had experience with the "steinhart ocean 39 vintage GMT premium" and was wondering which one in your opinion is better, in terms of build quality/solidity, finishing, etc.

    • @khronokraze
      @khronokraze  Год назад +1

      It's solid excellent build quality. It actually has best bezel action of the O39s and even the larger Ocean Ones mainly due to the fact it has been the only one with brushed finishing on the bezel grip... Which helps immensely with positive grip and ease of turning. All the other ones I've experienced have high polish bezel grips which makes turning the bezel a lot harder. I say this being I often have dry hands/fingers. This may be less of an issue for you or others if not have such. Accuracy has always been pretty good on the steinharts. Lume is also really good, even with fauxtina. The only reason I sold mine was I felt the faux vintage look was a bit artificial. I didn't like the fact the fauxtina and the non-lume print have the exact same print color. IMHO, they should differ in tonality and color even slightly. As it is, it looked too even and perfectly matched between the lume and regular print on the dial.
      I should have a review video up on it you should be able to find for more info.
      Otherwise overall the quality of the build, performance, and the look of the watch is pretty nice. I just didn't like the too perfectly matched fauxtina lume and print color which didn't look authentic for a faux vintage aesthetic.
      Also, the somewhat straight case and lugs can bug some as it can always leave a slight gap between the watch case and wrist the way they are designed.

    Uni-directional bezels are not "a cheap way out" they are critical safety devices for actual diving. They only turn to take away time from a diver vs rotating the other way adding dive time.

    • @Army4Runner
      @Army4Runner 7 месяцев назад

      True, but this a GMT with a 24 hour bezel, therefore bi-directional bezels are appropriate.

    Bi-directional bezels are used on dive watches. Only uni-lateral bezel are used. You're at risk of running out of air if the bezel moves to give you more time. Dangerous.

    Hold it in one position at a time as you discuss a point. thanks

    The date appears to be just as illegible as the GMT function. Red over black? Come on, what were they thinking?

    • @khronokraze
      @khronokraze  8 месяцев назад

      Yeah, main reason I didn't keep it long and sold it. Red on black was dumb. And the cyclops added a lot of reflection over it additionally. Lose the cyclops and go with a white date dial would actually add back more symmetry to the dial.. could pass as one of the indexes instead of leaving a negative space at the 3 area. Anyways..

      @@khronokrazewhat is the distinction between these two terms?

    • @khronokraze
      @khronokraze  Год назад +6

      First, I don't like to ever use the word "true" GMT. Both office or caller GMT and traveler's GMT are GMT watches, both "true" GMTs...one is not fake or a lesser GMT, they just operate differently.
      Most affordable caller/office GMT watches basically allow for the 4th 24-hour GMT hand to advance forward to whatever time zone you want to set for it. The idea is that you do not travel as much and mostly will track another time zone (or two) so you know what time it is in that other place you are keeping track of.. so, you know if it is at a time you can or should call someone in that other time zone. Or, perhaps you work out of your office and conduct business with another country in a distant time zone and need to know when their business hours of operations are at or perhaps you need to know when another time zone's market closes.
      A traveler's GMT implies you are a frequent traveler and go to different time zones frequent enough to reset your watch to a new local time zone when you are at another location. As such, you generally set your 4th GMT hand to your home time zone, where you live or operate from primarily. Then, you can jump the main hour hand forwards or backwards accordingly to whatever new local time zone you may be at when traveling. That way your main hiur handset is set to the location you are currently in, while the 4TH 24hour GMT hand keeps time at your home time zone so you always know what time it is back home when you are away.
      You can basically use both caller/office and traveler's GMT watches the same way. They just adjust the times differently and you go about it differently, but both can keep track of what you want to.. just one is more convenient for one lifestyle versus another.
      If still doesn't make sense, look it up on RUclips. There are plenty of videos that explain the differences.. probably easier to comprehend with visuals rather than just words and trying to imagine what I'm trying to convey to you.

    These are basically Asian made watches now with Swiss movements thrown in. Crazy that they can call them swiss made.

    • @mattfischetti188
      @mattfischetti188 Год назад +5

      Don't believe that's true. If they were made in Asia, the watch would say "Swiss Movement". My understanding is that Glycine's are still made in Switzerland. The fact that they've been part of Invicta since 2016 doesn't mean they are made in Asia. Glycine is still run as it's own entity.

    • @BiffTannenBTTF
      @BiffTannenBTTF Год назад +1

      The case and bracelet are undoubtedly Asian made. Even companies like Tag and others of that stature use Asian made cases. It's about the percent of value that is Swiss that allows them to call it Swiss made. So if the movement is determined to be most of the value (which it is) then they can call it Swiss made.

    • @arlofs
      @arlofs 8 месяцев назад

      You’re correct. When Invicta purchased Glycine, they kept the general designs, but outsourced every component to China - except the movement. However, the watch is fully assembled in Switzerland.
