- Welcome to HATE. Victor and TJ square off in a 1v1 in the Burning Hill scenario in HATE. It's UM' CAL with UM' RAK. Please take your time watching this video and let us know if we made any mistakes with the rules. We can learn how to play HATE together!
Once a few rules of HATE are answered, we will do a full Chronical.

Just a quick heads up. There are quite a few changes from the Beta Rulebook to the end result Rulebook that we posses which has caused some confusion! In the updated Rulebook, gaining a resource from a tree does not count as a Action. You may Freely pick up a resource if you land on that space. Also highground now counts for both attacking and defending players.
My interpretation is that attacker wins when 3 huts are pillaged, so if defender pillage its own huts, he just help the attacker acheiving his goal...
Yep that is a great way at looking at it actually. Thanks for that!!
that actually makes quite a bit of sense.
The rules are pretty vague, but it was intended by the developers that the ability to pillage huts in that scenario is meant specifically for the attackers. I don't remember or have the source to reference, sorry.
Thank you for the content. Please keep playing as my copy of hate should be arriving this month. Also, army and mercenary character overviews would be nice with your personal opinions on each army/character as you have played this game and are also the only youtube channel at this time cornering hate gameplay content. Thank you for all you do!
Hey Terry. We are slowly working on new HATE content as we speak. More coming soon. Thanks for tuning in!
Tabletop knights, thank you for the quick response. At this time the HATE universe is your oyster. Not even cmon is covering the HATE universe/game/lore. I will be tuning in to see where & how far you all take it. Again thank you for all content you all do a great job.
Hats off for getting this up so quick! Nice Job!
Thanks heaps! It was meant to come out 24 hours ago but slow internet delayed it!
Huts: the rules say you can only enter a hut from the 3 squares next to the entrance. I think it's assumed that the hut is an obstacle and you can only enter and leave by the entrance. In the red ambush hut, the neutral warrior attacks first. If you survive then you can attack it to gain the resources. The white family hut you can attack the neutral warrior first. If you win you get the goods. If you fail, he attacks back. The tent stays until you defeat the warriors.
Just quietly i assumed you can't step ontop of huts because there are no squares on the outside of the hut. So im ok with that rule. But it doesnt say what a neutral warrior does if they roll a star on their dice
I may have miss understood what you were talking about. Sounded like you weren't sure if that hut attacks but you were probably taking about the wild die. My bad.
The rules for the wild die say the player decides what its used for. So your assumption would should be correct since the player rolling for the neutral warrior clearly doesn't want the other player to win.😁
@@jumpervii Yeah so basically what we decided. I guess thats why we appreciate your comments so much because we like making sure we are on the same page. However again what if the hut isnt being defended by the defender? Its still in the best interest of the neutral warrior to change his wild into a shield or sword. Ill ask the devs!
@@TabletopKnights yeah, that's why I'm going with it's up to the player that rolls the dice meaning your opponent. Also on setup it says to put a savagery token on each hut (page 13). Did the scenario say not to or did you forget?
Hi Guys,
First off, amazing you got this out so fast. Really appreciated. And thumps up for your video angles and editing. Looking much forward for the chronicle play.
Beside was else has been mention in the comments, I found below.
(Do note, this is just my personal take on the rules. So take it only for that 😉 )
Hut pillage (Innocent hut) at 5.12 - you gain the hate no matter what. And then you choose to kill the innocents or not. (so, you actually cheated yourself for a hate there)
Prince defending at 11.00 - The prince is at high ground, so he gets 1 more defense die. (should have rolled 5 defense dices, you actually mention “Do I roll 1 less, or does he roll 1 more?” Guess it slipped in the heat of combat 😉 )
Shaman skill discussion at 12.57 - you don’t get the free activation the next turn, you get the free activation immediately.
Hut movement at 13.22 - in my humble opinion, I will also play that you cannot walk on top of huts. (based on the 3D hut that was made as an optional buy)
Reroll at 31.59 - The rules page 20 say: Reroll any/all dice. So, you could actually just have rerolled the specific amount you wanted.
End discussion at 43.25 - There is no best out of 3 etc. Points are scored at the end of the entire chronicle. Page 11 in the rulebook.
Looking forward for the next video. Good job guys !
Perfect feedback!!! You cleared up some questions that I haven't had time to double check yet. Thanks heaps for that!
Very cool gameplay. The game itself looks really interesting and with a decent amount of depth and decision making in it. Looking forward for more gameplay!
Thank you heaps for the kind words. We are really looking forward to digging into it more!
Hey guys! There is an faq and it does specify that in the burning hill scenario the defender cannot pillage the huts since they are defending them.
Hey thanks for the comment. The FAQ came out a solid 3 or 4 weeks after this video so I have definitely checked it out. Thanks for tuning in!
Nice learning game. I'm sure its filled with obvious errors but it does convey basically how the game flows and thats nice. Cheers.
Thanks mate. we do appreciate both the comments by the way. Feedback is always important to us
Nice saved the video to watch on my free time 😁 thanks for uploading
And thank you for saving and commenting!
What ya gonna do, Vicky Boy? Bring it! LOL's. Cheers for the great video lads.
Haha glad you enjoyed. Thanks for tuning in!!
My copy arrived today. Thanks for the demo. Please do more rules vids. Gameplay etc. Adelaide here where are you guys?
Based in Melbourne here. We jusy recorded a new video today. Itll take me a few days to edit and we have the rules mainly down now zo stay tuned. We are doing a full Chronicle. Scars and all!!
@@TabletopKnights cant wait. Miniatures are amazing will have to get the paints out for these beauties.
Loved it! Waiting for mine. Please play a campaign through it would be nice to see! Way to go to be the first to post a game!
We will be recording the start of a Chronical on Monday. So hopefully by Wednesday episode 1 will be out! Let me know if you have any suggestions on what we can do to make it more enjoyable to watch!
@@TabletopKnights filming looks great, love the various shots, angles, close ups and overall veiws of battlefield!
@@neopict5872 Thanks heaps! Its taking a lot longer to record the second part because it is apart of a chronical. Its lots of scanning when you add scars and whatnot haha.
According to the rules you have to complete your move with all of your figures before they can then take their actions. Thus on turn 1 you would not have been able to pillage the hut as soon as you entered it. Technically you would leave the figure in the entrance of the hut while it remained face down and you would then select and move your second figure. Once both of your figures have moved you would then select the unit that wants to pillage at which point you would then flip over the hut and resolve it. The reason why this matters is because if done out of order it could lead to a player having more resources available to them then they should have at the time of action activation or it could lead to you making choices about how to move your figures based on the contents of the Hut. The intention is that you have to move all your figures without knowing the outcome of your intent actions.
Hey thanks for the comment. I definitely jumped the gun straight away and we might of done this once or twice more but for the most part, most of the video consists of 2 moves before an action. First time properly playing the game so we fully expected some rules to be missed at some stages. Thanks again for the comment. Hopefully next time when we start a chronical we make less mistakes.
@@TabletopKnights I re-watched the CMON game play video. It is also a good thing to it in order because Eric pointed out that you can move multiple units into the hut so you can get the support bonus. This would help answer the question you had during the play through on whether or not you would get support. The only problem with that is to clarify is whether or not the support is only if it's in the tent or if standing at the entrance is enough to count as adjacency. I'm leaning towards in the hut since in the video he says multiple IN the hut. ruclips.net/video/JvUgXmjf2yE/видео.html Unfortunately they didn't roll any wilds for the ambush attack and defense so there wasn't a 100% answer to that question during the pillage :)
@@jumpervii Will hopefully get a response about them on the wild soon. Shame you are not local to us we could do some sessions!
@@TabletopKnights for sure, you seem like my kind of people. While I do live in Melbourne, it's Melbourne Florida and Australia is I little out of the way for games. 😁
I believe they say in the rule book that reroll is "reroll any dice you want to reroll"
Yes it does! Its one of the rules we fix in our next episode!
Thks guys ! Can't wait to play with my own
Thanks for tuning in!
Take a look at the other scenarios. Huts are neutral so a would assume there are scenarios that puts them in the center rather than on one side. Since this scenario includes then in the objectives makes sense the defender wouldn't attack the huts.
Hey mate thanks for the comment. Yea we used common sense with some of the rules in the video. Im sure we will get heaps of feedback from this video which will help us play a Chronical very soon!
Not sure if good content but a video going over the different scenarios would be nice unless you plan to wait for the Chronicle.
@@jumpervii I can look at doing that for sure! Id have to put the spoiler tags thats for sure but when i get some time thats a great idea!
@@TabletopKnights got a response on BGG about the defender attacking the huts. Someone had emailed them and got a response.
Hi,
Thank you for your patience. Per the developers, the defending side can't pillage huts in this scenario. We hope this information helps. Thank you and have a good day.
CSR Overclock
Rules said to put the spent savagery next to the figure. I noticed you were putting them on the cards instead which effectively represents the same thing. I guess it's up to personal preference, putting them on the card makes it easy for you to see what character you still can use. Putting them on the board next to the figure makes it easy for both players to look at the board and see who has moved.
That is actually a good idea. I guess it makes it look neat to put it on the card but yes in the future we will put them on the board!
Also when you grab a body you take all the savagery tokens on it as well
We actually decided to not put Savagery next to the figure. It overcrowds the board.
@@TabletopKnights makes sense but be aware that the savagery sticks to the character (I believe) so any reactivated character (through the forge) can have multiple savagery tokens on them
@@1989yt Very aware of that one now. All the Savagery gets taken off at each Replenish phase too.
Feats of savagery at the camp, can you activate as many as you want in one turn as long as you have enough tokens? Like I can drop 3 savagery tokens on the three levels of +1 dice and the third upgrade for another +3 for a total of 5 extra dice?
Want to see the beginning of our HATE Chronical? Well its live on our channel now!
Don’t think you can walk on huts. This is because they offered the 3D terrain elements during the campaign including huts which there is no way you can place a figure on top of.
Yes agreed and also even the 2d huts do not have the lines on the top side of the hut which is also an indicator. Thanks for the comment frienc.
Hi! Thanks for this! Was a bit confused from the editing since the placement of the cameras made it unclear which side was which. Maybe try having all the cameras on the same side of the table in the future? So right/left stays on the same side. Cheers!
Hey thanks for the comment. The only camera that is the opposite way is the dice camera. The other two shots we are on the same side. The dice camera needs to be in a spot where we can both reach as well as not block the view of the other 2 cameras. Next time ill try find a solution to make sure all 3 cams match up. Thanks again.
W the same cam placement, you could just rotate the tower cam upside down in post :)
Great video guys, a few mistakes but the rulebook is very vague. My gf and I had same issues with trying to understand the rules. We live in melbourne, we should link up for a game
Hello fellow Melbournian! Yeah the vagueness of some rules really through us to begin with. We played again today and ran into another rule or two we questioned. Was an amazingly close game. What scenario did you play
@@TabletopKnights We have played burning hill, pillars of rot and hidden camp. We had an issue with the scythe in hidden camp and we wernt sure if we can pass the scythe to other people or have to wait for the person holding the scythe to get KO'd. Also we still dont know if neutral warriors can get savagery, we have decided that wilds are at the discretion of the person rolling for the neutral warrior. I really hope cmon release a faq soon because we love the game but there are so many unanswered questions.
So I am wondering about your battle at 2040 or so where you had 2 folks attack the guy in the hut. Is that actually allowed? Don't you have to be in the hut to fight, in addition to the fact that you wouldn't gain support in that scenario either. Just asking based on the what I read in the first FAQ. Thanks and great video.
I actually dont remember thst part. Ill watch again and let you know. Thanks for the comment!
I probably just overlooked it, but how did you know how much savagery to start with? I couldn't find it in the rules...
I think the Replenish phase says to take 5 tokens. Thanks for watching!
Couldn't you both have used the extra savagery in the end to go after the resource tokens? Or was everyone already activated?
I think all the characters were activated at the time.
Thanks guys!
Just found your channel.. Nice playthru you've got here.. You guys should really invest in some cheap lavalier mic :) keep playing +1 sub
Thanks heaps for the comment. I actually have two rode lavalier mics that I used to use when we did VR videos. They are good but the quality is never as good as these mics we use despite them being annoying and in the way haha. Also these mics are plugged into a Mixer which combines them into one track for me. Easy to edit. One day though we plan to have boom mics so they are off screen! Thanks again for subbing we greatly appreciate it!!!!!!
Great video!
Question: should there not be a Savagery token on each of those huts during the setup?
I'll find out for you but i think yes.
@@TabletopKnights Found it: page 13 of the rulebook: Environment Setup - Huts. So YES
Hey Guys, when will you post next gameplay video?
Ummmmm in this game most likely in another week or so. We will be starting a chronical soon!
@@TabletopKnights cool Thx. Looking forward for more of your games. Keep up with good work.
Lovely game, thank you :-)
F#€K YEAH. You glorious Aussie bastards. Stick a pair of double dags in that pile of hate!
Way to go getting this to the table. I loved it. And kudos for having your sh!t together, rules guide/arbitrator off to the side:)
Please do a campaign of this game. I have to wait for my copy, but I'm playing nemesis so it's not to bad.
The graphics are great. The use of common sense is great. The multiple camera angles are great.
Big time recognition for the off camera rule book flipper.
Could you also play a worker placement resource management euro game with a cute theme, then feed the video to a captured warrior, cook him in the furnace and use the severed hands gathered to play another game of Hate!
I went all in on this game, and your right. It was pricey. But snakes and ladders, candyland are 15$ US.
Thanks for the effort that comes with the quality of your content. I look forward to more of the same.
If you would do an intermission video between games that would be awesome. Can you break down the videos in four parts maybe? Fight, camp, fight, camp. Then the next match. Also could you do an exploration of the different tribes? Their strength/weakness play style that sort of thing.
You seem with it enough to do a good job at something like that.
HHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey mate. Thanks for our longest comment yet! So glad you enjoyed the video and we will 100% be doing more HATE videos in the future. When we do a chronical we will be breaking the videos into One person attacking. One person defending. Then the next video will be the camp potion then the reverse battle and so on.
Are the tribes balanced against each other?
They are balanced. The leaders and upgrades are some big differences.
@@TabletopKnights thanks for the reply, do you mean that upgrades and leaders are unbalanced or asymmetric? I’ve heard that it would be nasty to hurt opponents warriors but not kill them, forcing your enemies to use a weakened team, is that something you encountered? Do you recommend house ruling to prevent that kind of meta play?
Pg 14
Figures may only move into a Hut from one of the 3 spaces adjacent
to its entrance...... When exiting a Hut, a Figure must also move
from the entrance to any of the 3 spaces adjacent to it.
i would assume you can NOT enter a hut space unless you use the entrance.
The 2 questions we had were can you stand ontop of a hut and we came to the conclusion that no you cant. Second hut question was can you be supported when inside of a hut.
thanks for posting
And thank you for watching!
Cool Miniatures Or Not. Cmon is just an awesome acronym
CMON (fka Cool Mini Or Not) is pronounced just like it reads. You had it right the first time Victor.
Glad we can do something right from time to time haha.
@@TabletopKnights Sea'mon
Sea'Mn if you're cheeky
As this is your by far most popular video. I was wondering if you were planning on doing an actual learn to play video as opposed to a watch it played? All of the big game board channels will not touch this game, so there is no good "Here are the rules, here is how to play" videos (Think "How to Play"). I thought this one would be but instead it is a watch it played (which helps) but I cannot show it to some friends so they can just jump into the game.
Hey thanks for the comment. We do have a new member on the team playing around with some How To videos so we will see how they go and he might do some HATE. My personal experience, How To videos always get good views but are not as fun to record/edit and we try to have fun when we do stuff for the channel. Hopefully Greg our new guy enjoys doing them! Thanks for the feedback.
I pronounce it like a Jamaican. See Man but See Mon.
The arg fuk kill tribe card looked like you did it right. If adjacency was important then I think it would have been on the card.
Glad you agree. It seems that this game is very 'use your own judgement and common sense'
CMON is the initials for Cool Mini Or Not.
My first CMON game so I wasn't sure. Sorry.
@@TabletopKnights Yeah, I saw that this video was 2 years old. I figured you probably knew by now anyway. I just got the Hate kickstarter and haven't played it yet. Looking forward to it. Using your video to learn the basics of gameplay. Thanks!
Has anyone tries playing this game with heroscape tiles? If so let me know how that went
Thank you for the video
You're welcome
I'd say you can't walk on huts. If you have the 3D terrain it would be problematic.
This was something we actually ended up discussing a lot longer than the edit shows, and while we went with "yes" on it, the more I think on it post game, the more I think you may be quite right and I probably shouldn't have been able to move over it. Thanks for the comment!
Be good if Cmon came to the party on this. There's a few of things such as no line of sight, which is great for simplicity and more tactical decisions but thematically it then kind of means that huts etc. don't get in the way. Like your style boys and good to hear some real accents on gaming vids. Where are you based?
Melbourne Australia. Thanks heaps for tuning in. Also i noticed during the edit that the huts do not have squares on the outside but they do on the inside. To me this means 100% no walking on the huts!
@@TabletopKnights I'm in Melbourne too. If you ever need an extra player I'd love to contribute. I'm a serious collector and kickstart supporter. 800 games and building. I'm about to start filming short reviews (3 minutes) of games to help folks determine if they want to look deeper at games. Good to see the Aussie community growing. I'll keep watching.
@@reggycide Where abouts in Melbourne are you?
You don't get extra dice for attacking from high ground, you only get extra dice when defending if you're in the high ground and the attacker is not. Also, the +1 re-roll is any or all dice. You have choice. Also, you can't attack AND harvest. You're amendment was incorrect.
Hey thanks for the comment! I am not sure if you have read the updated rulebook but our understanding is that there are only 4 things that count as actions. 1. Pillaging a hut 2. Grabbing a Body. 3. Attacking and 4. Special Scenario Action. In the Physical Rulebook it states those 4 as an action. Under the move area it says "Any Figure that ends its move standing on a tree space may FREELY take 1 of it's resources and add it to their pool. Meaning they can still perform an action after. We assume that because gaining a resource from a tree is not under actions that it does not count towards that.
Also again with High Ground is states in the Physical Rulebook "Holding the high ground is a big advantage in any combat. If a figure is on a Plateau that is higher than where their enemy stand, they get 1 bonus die. If the higher figure is defending or attacking they get +1 die.
And yes you are correct about the Reroll.
Thanks for the comment. We appreciate any rules we may have mistaken.
There is no correct way to say CMON because it's an acronym as people have mentioned below. So anyway you say it is correct until a norm is established, like NASA or UNICEF
If the defender pillages a hunt, the attacker will score one point. Easy.
CMON = Cool Mini Or Not.
COOL MINI OR NOT. CMON
Thanks for that
More!!! HAAAAAAATE!!!!
Just started editing it this morning!! About 30 minutes into the editing and itll be about an hour and 20 minute video at this stage haha. A few days still.
You adding a mercenary? Those can be brutal I hear.
@@marvart We probably will in the second Clash. Just while we learn the game we want to keep it simple. Most scenarios have a mercenary though
Cool Mini or Not. Thats where it comes from, so C is pronounced as a k not as sea.
Cmon = Cool Minis Or Not. Not sure of the pronunciation.
Sea Mon
So so many bad jokes I was praying to avoid seeing as that's the case... we'll just take the high road and not make them.
This will be difficult as I have possibly the most juvenile sense of humour EVER.
Are you really adjacent to someone on high ground?
Not 100% on that one. Ill rip out the rule book when i get home and let you know!
@@TabletopKnights I was looking for it, the book does not mention as far as I can see. Logically, I would say no...
@@amorbavian Logically id say yes. Just because you are down the hill doesn't mean you can't him them. So if there is another warrior with a plus 1 support its still 2v1 technically. Thoughts?
@@TabletopKnights adjacent = next to or adjoining something else. It's not really next to if someone is on another height level, is it?
Dont think if u defending ur tribe lands and vilage u would pillage ur own huts and kill ya own people... 😄
This is true. But technically the land we are fighting on wasn't controlled or owned by anyone.
@@TabletopKnights oh then pillage away i would say.. 😉. But probably would give the attacker time to strike u down to though as u waisted some moves on pillaging. But i have not read trough the rule book much yet.
@@EternalFrost2u No you are right haha. Technically its not his land but common sense says that the defender should defend the huts. Thanks for the comment!
