This was a great intro to nature journaling with lots of examples on what questions we might ask and where they might lead. I’ve been too concerned with creating pretty pictures and not getting to the nitty gritty of inquiry or investigation of nature. This helps Marley. Always an admirer of your journaling (and your choice in ice cream!). Thank-you!
That is great to hear! Yes, it is an ongoing battle and requires lots of self awareness. Sometimes, I have days where I don't nature journal at all because I'm somehow stuck in a psychological trap probably related to pretty pictures and outcome dependence. One thing I know is that I always feel better after doing some of the nitty gritty nature journaling even if it is really basic visually. Then after that I know I deserved some ice cream!
Thanks for the video. I am starting nature journaling in January in Wisconsin. So I am journaling with the “wildlife” that is overwintering in our house. Starting with the mouse my cat caught!
Wonderful Carrie! It is so good to be flexible and realize that nature journaling is more about the approach and we often have biases about what we consider a subject. I'm glad you nature journaled the mouse. I also have several videos about how to nature journal your pet that could be encouraging. I am doing an upcoming video about ideas for nature journaling in cold winters too. Here is the video about nature journaling pets: ruclips.net/video/KHnRo5Rf0TA/видео.html
This is such a refreshing approach to art outside of our homes, and outside of our heads! When I'm in natural surroundings, which could be the local park or a place I am visiting, I tend to take lots of photos and then use a couple of them as reference photos to paint at home - where I have my overkill stash of art supplies ready and waiting! However, I've started to get out more and carry a limited set of materials in a small bag, which is light and convenient to carry. By having less stuff on me, it helps me simplify the drawing and subsequent watercolour sketch. I like your term "lanscapito", especially as I speak Spanish and live in Spain, though I'm originally from London.
Thanks for sharing Mark! John Muir Laws originated the term landscapito! I think it is a great term. That is cool you live in Spain and speak spanish. I have been collaborating with more people trying to catalyze the growth of a nature journaling movement in spanish! We have a club on Facebook. Thanks for sharing about your process too.
Glad you liked it! This is a great list for getting going. Some days I have a specific question or project in mind, but other days, like when I do a sit spot in my backyard, it helps to have all these tools (I notice/I wonder/It reminds me of, landscapitos, etc) to get going.
I have lots of different turtle species and tortoises and some jeweled lacerta lizards most are unwanted pets I just can't seem to turn them down haha can't wait to try draw some of them will be watching lots more of your videos

I’m glad also Barbara! Let me know if you need help finding any specific videos or information about nature journaling. I also have several playlists where I organize the videos by topic.
Hey Marley, have you thought about doing a LIVE Nature Journal Show? Or maybe a livestream drawing lesson? I know live events can be time-consuming and sometimes unpaid. Maybe you could offer it through your Patreon page? Just a thought ...
This is just what I needed to get me motivated--thank you so much! I love the inquiry tips. I did this all the time when I was teaching but forgot (or never thought) to carry this over to my own life in such an intentional (I am so tired of that word and usually avoid it, but it is exactly what I mean in this case.) way when journaling. I may even add a page in the journal about the ice-cream. I notice you bought the best kind. I wonder how much one of those cost...It reminds me of what's in my freezer right now and how it's time for a snack!

That's a great idea Laurie! I would love to do something like that. I have done live stuff on facebook before but not on youtube.

hahaha, sounds like you are on the right track Leslie! Glad this video helped.
I just discovered your channel. Such a great job describing what to do, specially for beginners like myself. Thank you!
Welcome! I'm so glad you found the channel.
What other steps do you think are important? When you were a beginner what advice or ideas would have helped you?
there is no need for this dude to whisper outside
You don't wanna scare away the wildlife and/or fish depending on where you are filming.
Were you homeschooled??
Hi Danielle, I was not homeschooled.
