I never saw this before as I stopped watching Brookie in the last few years. It went down the toilet. It was deliberate to axe the show. They messed with the schedule and then it was the end. It was at it’s height in the nineties.
A teacher at my school in his late 40s actually did this, when it was discovered he was having an affair with one of the 5th formers (a 16 year old student). But, he was on the roof of his house in his dressing gown threatening to jump. He was an asshole of a history teacher, so there were some students down on the pavement shouting "go on jump you bastard", lol. About 6 months later he was back teaching again.
Similar incident happened when i was at school, our technology teacher was an alcoholic, he went nuts one day and started yelling abuse at the kids on the field, two other teachers had to come and escort him away, it was pretty scary seeing it as a 12 year old in my first year at highschool.
amazes me how brookside failed in the end as it paved the way for the other soaps, it touched subjects and went places that other shows were too afraid to go near, it was a victim of its own success sadly though in the end as it reached such heights that it couldn't replicate the shock value and all the hard hitting issues had been done so the writers ultimately made the show over sensational and not credible and it lost its wayin its final years. I think the biggest mistake they made was the incest 1996 storyline, that did alot of damage to the show.
Yet other soaps have done incest stories since then without their ratings being affected at all. Hollyoaks is full-on ludicrous pantomime. Brookside was ahead of its time not only in its realism, but even in its sensationalism. Mass hostage-taking, explosions, murders, contrived plots, and unrealistic mega-drama are now ten-a-penny in soaps. Just look at Corrie the other week: a car crash with a police van frees a gangster, who then travels to the same street as those he collided with to murder another resident, and is swallowed up by a sinkhole at the moment he is about to kill that resident while a few metres away a sinkhole swallows up another resident about to shoot her son's murderer. That gun washes away next to the gangster, which he takes to go back and finish the job. He shoots and kills the wrong woman, and thinking he killed the right woman, bizarrely decides to hide in her car anyway. She gets in and tries to kill him in a crash. Meanwhile, in another sinkhole, the pub landlord is drowning to death. That is absolute insanity compared to any of Brookside's more criticised storylines, such as the Simpson siblings' incest, Lindsey Corkhill's gun-toting, and Jackie Corkhill going lezza for a night.
@@elgee6202 how did that story resolve in the end? i recall watching it as a kid but that story was random,it killed off a few characters then they just forgot about it.
@@elgee6202 It was a great idea for a storyline but it was the way they did it. The virus never made news headlines, considering that the Jordaches had a dead body in their back garden, only recurring/new characters only got ill instead of veterans. And didn't they lock down the close with just chairs in the middle of the road. The storyline would've worked better for Emmerdale as it would be spread from animals but Yorkshire television said no.
One of the funniest thing I've seen in days 😂
Rest in peace dean Sullivan aka jimmy corkhill 🙏

The killer virus was the worst storyline.

@@Onmysheet, the killer virus was an absolutely realistic storyline if the last two years of global history are anything to go by ...
