Fact correction : Potatoes were added to the Kolkata Biryani not because Wajid Ali Shah was poor. Back then the exiled King of Awadh had a taste for all things exotic and potatoes were just brought into India by the Portuguese.
Nice video. I like you how guys present your videos 😊

    • @PrantikMitra-yu4me

Actually, there are two sides to the story. Some say it was added as an exotic vegetable others say it was the cheaper alternative to meat which was expensive for the working class of the mughals. In fact, potato was introduced to India in the 17th century and Wajid Ali Shah was sent on exile in the 19th century so hard to believe it was still exotic since it was grown abundantly in Bengal by then.
But one thing is constant, everyone falls in love with the flavourful aloo in the biryani.

Also you can try baked rasgolla, baked doi, baked kalakand, monohora, sitabhog, mihidana etc. in sweets and alu kabli, churmur, fishfry, prawn cutlet, prawn kabiraji, topse fry, fish finger as evening snacks. In main course combination of basanti pulao and mutton kosha, bhetki paturi etc.

It seems unnecessary to speak Bung-holi ,if someone is in Kolkata...From what I have learnt, nothing in Kolkata is actually a credit of Bung-holies. Bung-holies were only consumers and followers throughout history...Not creators or pioneers of anything..Kolkata was relevant because of the melting pot of British and other dominating Indian cultures, not because of Bung-holies.

I am located outside Kolkata, and I am missing the 'phuchka' so much. It's neither puchka or fuchka, it's 'phuchka'. I don't like panipuri or golgappe. I am missing the daal, I am missing the fish.
Why didn't you try Fish Fry?
    You should have!
You should have tried jhaal muri makha and tapri chai! Try alur chop!
Thank you guys for this video. Yeh dekh ke ghar ka yaad agaya! :(

You're absolutely right. Have tried golgappa, pnipuri. But phuchka is best. Without fish fry or fish cutlet is something I can not imagine a full bengali platter. Alur chop with muri is an emotion. Our cuisine very underratted I must say.

Kobiraji is actually related to Rabindra Nath Tagore. Kobi is poet and raji is agreed. R.N.Tagore didn't like the hard crust of cutlet so to make him have it a soft cushiony layer of eggs was added, which he enjoyed very much. And that's how kobi agreed to have it in future, so kobiraji.

They'll tell you the worst part of you on your face with a Behench*d. But the sweetest part is they dont consider Behench*d as a gali. It's a part of their language.
