  • "you're the smartest and the dumbest fucking person I've ever known"
    trigger for: mental illness (bipolar disorder)/self-harm
    inspiration: /watch?v=lnidMpUfGD0
    my problematic fave, honestly
    she's unapologetic in a way that really pisses everyone off
    and you gotta love that
    people think she's off the fucking rails all the time
    meanwhile she's outsmarting everyone and getting things done
    to me, she symbolises the "female irrationality" trope, except she makes a strength out of it
    she uses her instinct and emotional intelligence and i believe that this trait, despite the show's many faults, truly is something we need in more female tv characters
    “I love that she gets to be powerful and assertive and courageous and truly vulnerable. Because I think real vulnerability does require courage, and we’re a little confused about that in our culture.” -Claire Danes
    i never make character studies because they're the hardest, honestly .. so this might feel a little off, whatever

    “She is incredibly bright, at times dangerously bright. And formidable and focused, even compulsive, even myopic. But she’s also very, very sensitive and vulnerable. And that juxtaposition is interesting.” -Claire on Carrie

    ugh, this BLEW me away. I've loved this song for so long and it fits Carrie so well. I loved the emphasis you placed on the saul/carrie relationship and how you avoided placing too much importance on the romantic relationships she has because carrie, in and of herself, is a solitary person, even when she is with someone, and you highlighted that so well. bravo, as usual.

      +Hanneybean7 thank you so much, i'm really glad you like it!
      and yes, i tried to focus on all aspects of her life rather than solely on relationships; at the end of the day, her work is her defining charateristic, it is what drives and motivates her the most
      and i have to thank you again for the inspiration, i still rewatch your ward video from time to time

    @xLivingInTheMomentx 8 лет назад +2

    Oh wow
    I love her and I hate her and I think she may be the best written character I have come across in a long time.
    And you perfectly captured that.
    I could spend hours talking about her, about how she isn't afraid to show how she feels about things, about how even when everything and everyone is against her she still fights for the truth without ever giving up.
    It's beautiful and inspiring and you managed to capture it in this one video. That is fucking incredible. Well done!

    • @whcares
      @whcares  8 лет назад +2

      i love her and hate her too
      she's infuriating half the time, not even likeable in some instances
      and yet ... i find myself empathizing with her no matter what, even when it's clear she's doing the wrong thing
      idk she's just a mixture of good and bad things i guess and that's what makes her believable as a character
      thanks, glad you like it!

    • @xLivingInTheMomentx
      @xLivingInTheMomentx 8 лет назад +1

      That's what makes her so fascinating. She is a supposedly unlikeable main character. But I too find myself understanding and empathising with her a lot.
      It's all just so intriguing, yet so real. I can't tear my eyes away. Love it.

    FANTASTIC!!! You captured her essence so well!
    I couldn't agree more with you on your reply to @daisy on loving and hating her. She is driving me f***ing nuts half of the time and still i am feeling with her, hurting with her, wishing her only the best. Claire Danes does an absolutely outstanding job in playing her.

    1: How come a neurotic and a patient of Bi-polar disease be an efficient member of the Agency? It just does not make any sense?
    2: Why did Saul Berenson always agreed with Carrie Mathison?
    3: How come she became a lover of Nick Brody when she had so many biological faults in her without any clue to her thoughts and inclination?
    4: Why Dana Brody was given such a huge role which was literally unconnected with the real issue? Why the exist chris Brody in program?
    5: Why the sex scenes (Brody and Jess) were shown in such graphical detail?
    6: And why was Dana Brody not shown to have any remorse after the death of the pedestrian in the car accident, which was directly the result of her encouraging her driver, the son of the Vice President, to drive faster and which led to a tragic accident?
    7: And why did Nick Brody’s wife, Jessica, forgave her husband for his misdemeanour outside the marriage for his affair with Carrie Mathison? Appreciate your comments.
    1. Suspend your disbelief. Carrie was reasonably ok at hiding her illness for the first 10 years of her career.
    2. Because he loves her. Mandy Patinkin said that Saul believed they would (literally) save the world together.
    3. She fell in love with Brody because she recognized the same brokenness in him that existed in her already. Plus some other reasons, like a future with him being literally unattainable, which is appealing to someone like Carrie who, at thought point, feared intimacy almost as much as being alone.
    4. Dana Brody was entirely connected to the “real issue” of seasons one, two, and three. Her storylines weren’t always great, but she was the core beating heart of Brody’s motivations. (And if you didn’t get that, you should watch again.)
    As for Chris, that’s a good question! Chris Brody serves no purpose on this television program, except for memes and Internet jokes.
    5. I think the purpose of showing those scenes in such graphic detail was to show how disconnected Brody felt from his wife - he was unable to be truly intimate with her when he returned. These scenes take on greater meaning and context when you contrast them with how he was with Carrie, especially in “The Weekend.”
    6. She did have remorse. A lot of it! She went to the hospital to see the dying woman, and asked Mike to take her to her house so she could apologize. She forced Finn Walden to say something to their parents.
    7. Denial, denial, denial. On some level she might have felt guilty that she was sleeping with Mike when she thought Brody was dead.
    You definitely need to watch again.
    We can say that Carrie was one of the best-built characters in history - alongside Brody , Saul and Quinn... It would be possible to clarify the following doubts:
    - I would like to see Homeland reveal how the CIA explained Brody in Iran and his death to the American press. Clearly, Javadi being able to take credit for capturing Brody helped his cause in Iran, but did the US government reveal Brody's role in Akbari's murder? Was his name cleared for the CIA attack? I'd love to know what you thought.
    - Another loose thread: Paul Franklin and the murder of the "real" CIA bomber. You just did that ... why ??
    Carrie was publicly humiliated, beaten, doped, shot and put her life on the line countless times without hesitation, just to make others see Brody as she saw him ... and succeeded. Abu Nazir, the CIA, Jessica and the show's own audience, no one came close to seeing Brody with the clarity Carrie has always seen. Carrie has always read Brody like no one else.
    Ah, Carrie's dialogue with Javadi was awesome, it will be one of the most memorable moments of the series, without a doubt!
    "And what you wanted, which was for everyone to see in him what you see. That has happened. Everyone sees him through your eyes now ..."
    - How did Carrie see Brody? and how did the US come to see it? It's the world?

    The description is a hot mess of word salad and silly woman stuff.
