Seriously helpful! It's so hard to find good videos bridging the gap between beginner and intermediate-with-some-decent-knowledge but doesn't know where to go. Thanks!
I recently blew some people's minds this weekend jamming after explaining 5th above 4th below like you mentioned in one of your other videos. It makes the circle of fifths so much easier to understand.
I feel like this same approach can be used for testing any idea of a chord progression in your head; not just soul :) This was a great presentation and you made it super simple to understand. Just think of a melody that isn't super volatile, and then start testing different chords/voicings where the leading note is whatever the current note in your melody is.
i have been playing notation hymns for our church and i never thought id ever attempt the chords i love hearing from Neo Soul etc, you are a blessed soul to share your knowledge by breaking down the concepts in a simple way for me to understand, and learning to do triads on my left hand instead octave bass notes. BIG FAN Kiaora from Auckland New Zealand, INSPIRATIONAL
I would recommend buying the Chordie app. You have an effective and interesting concepts. A lit up keyboards would help me as a beginner and visual learner to catch on quicker.
Wow I have a musical love for you bro!! It’s something about chords that touches my Soul to the core!! I just discovered you today, and until now I had no inspiration to create music and been in a slump for months. Gonna chk out your library now. From what I heard I’m sure that slum is about to be over. I’ll be getting back to you very soon my brother.
It's been a while since i begin the piano journée, and i was having some Real trouble with the voicing. This. Was the best exercice ever. Thank you, it will help a lot
Geez man, this is a great tutorial very helpful! Two thumbs up from me. One thing though, we need more ACTUAL soul music tutorials rather than NEO soul music tutorials. Sure, neo soul was created out of soul music but ultimately was derived from Hip-hop. And this is coming from a Hip-hop producer here, Hip-hop samples actual soul music and if we want that iconic Boom Bap Hip-hop sound then we can't be using neo soul techniques. And this isn't even speaking for the actual soul producers, they might be actually upset about this kind of thing. But for real this is a good tutorial none the less. Just something to keep in mind the next time you post y'know?
Hello! I have been learning your video teaching, superb. Can you use NEO Soul and sound to mix a "Autumn Leaves" for a video, so that I will better understand how to use Neo Soul harmony. Thanks!
I purchased your Stride piano exercise book and found it very helpful and well organized. Great for developing your left and right hand technique and vocabulary in both hands. I have a request for another video highlighting Oscar peterson technique. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and God bless.
michael Luce Thanks, Michael, very glad to hear that! I actually did do a video on Oscar years ago, but I’m working on a new one. You’ll probably see it sometime in the not-too-distant future.
@@NoahKellman im so used to being told "just use minor 9th chords!" that it's so refreshing to have real tips. have you heard of the artist "amva." by any chance? their albums synthnsoul are so awesome and i've been trying to recreate that sound, and this was a perfect introduction to that type of music.
Just purchased the bundle with this included. Man I’ve been following you for awhile and I pray that I can grow as a musician using your product. No expectations, but I know if I learned from these free tutorials, then I will probably learn from those exercises.
Noah ! I'm pretty old, so mod expressions don't come easily. But your style is "sick". Seriously ! Your musical technique is supercool. Your communication is very accessible. Your concepts/ideas make all kinds of sense to me. And seem "do-able" I'm 80. Don't have a lot of money. Not the greatest player. But I'll probably be signing up for some of your paid stuff soon. I'm that impressed. Thanks
Hey Dan, sorry I missed your comment before. Thanks for reaching out! I really appreciate hearing your feedback, and I'm glad to hear you're finding the information accessible and useful. All my best to you!
The exercise sounds great using the standard acoustic 🎹 patch on your Nord. I have a Casio 76 note WK200 workstation. So, I'm thinking it would be interesting to try this exercise with a warm pad synth patch. This tutorial has helped me better understand how and why reharmonization works the way it does Thanks Noah fr Will in VA
Would love to hear you playing just the first trick over the first 3 V - l's over a Standard like Misty. I tried but doesnt really sound promising.help!
thanks for this Noah, ur doing good work man and if we found ourselves watching this video we all appreciate you helping us gain the power to break the rules as well thanks man and god bless

Awesome tutorial. Making these kinds of sounds is actually a lot easier than I thought. Thanks.
Frazier Piano Studio absolutely- I think sometimes people make it seem harder than it needs to be.

Avoid the 51, avoid the circle of fifths, what makes these progressions fresh and interesting is the fact that they're not obvious.
