Thank you mister Khoury, very clear and understandable tutorial, you speak clearly, calmly!, a good thing for a non-native English people, a good starter for playing with the Regular Expressions.
This guy is so much better than A LOT of people on RUclips who try and show you to program. He's is better than my professor haha but don't tell her that ;)
Bro! I just want to let you know that I have happen to bump in to one of your older videos and brought some nostalgic feeling. I think it had to do with the muffled audio quality that was in the video, it was kind of your signature. Haha. Im glad you are still doing what you love. I started following way back somewhere in 2008, 19 at the time. I learned so much from you: PHP, how all adobe products work together, even Flash, years before Apple decided not to use it on their products. Haha. Time goes by really fast does it? Cheers my friend! You are awesome!
Merry Xmas, Sir Adam. Thank you for another year appearing on my monitors, and all the work that is involved. A good start for you and your family in 2016.

Good Day to you Mr. Khoury! I really need help on reading plist files that I got from my skype. I sync my iPhone and all these plist and xml files showed up and I don't know how to read it. I'm sorry for messaging you here publicly about my concern but I am very desperate and I need help pls. Thank you
Adam, no one like you. I have a problem and only a master like yourself could solve. I have an html doc and I want when someone clicks on a word anywhere in a div the word highlighted can be parsed to a function. How can the event handler grab that word.
+Bovell Barnes ... You may want to research the "Selection" object in JavaScript and the "getSelection() method. That should lead you down the road you want. developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Window/getSelection
Firstly I would like to appreciate your amazing effort to make this video Can you please make a video or refer me, how to do this task with "textarea" tag instead of "code" tag. I don't want to use code mirror, Thnaks in advance
Hi there Adam I would like to know if I should get into Javascript at the age of 13? I want to make a home business hence the name GinGineDev / Development | GGD Please get back to me. ~ Ellis Watson
It forces you to learn regular expressions? Why would you need to be forced to learn regular expressions? I find them to be quite fun, I don't need to be forced to learn them. Figuring out how to use better and better regular expressions is always a good challenge.
+FFVison Probably because there are some tasks that programmers may find daunting or frustrating. You might find them to be fun, but a lot of people do not. That said, a lot of people wouldn't touch them with a ten-foot pole However, if one comes across a project where the only option is to complete that not so exciting task, then you either have to force yourself to learn, or quit right there. I for one find this quite advantageous. If the project demands a skill or technology I might not otherwise use, it serves as an excellent learning opportunity for me. Another issue, too, can sometimes be the individual's self esteem or motivational levels. After I went through high school, I was left in a pretty damaged state, especially in those departments. I am finding to do anything I once enjoyed, or was starting to enjoy or take an interest in, I must force myself to do that task. Bad past experiences with that task/skill also play a role. After trying something, and not doing well because at that time you either weren't ready, or whoever trained you didn't do a good job, you might be very reluctant to ever try it again. I could probably endlessly list examples. But basically, just because you enjoy it, doesn't mean others do. They might be intimidated , terrified, disgusted, etc... about whatever the specific skill or task may be. If they didn't find an excuse to try learning it on their own time, even if that meant forcing it, they either wouldn't ever learn it at all, or they'd learn it halfway through another actually important project, and the results could be disastrous. I have done this myself before, and it is very hard re-factoring however much code or formatting stuff you already have set-up, in a way you're used to, with something that was suggested or recommended, that you're not used to. If forcing oneself is what it takes to accomplish the task at hand, or develop a valuable skill, then so be it.
+4E2010XD Hi there... The link to the code of this tutorial and regex components is linked in the video description. I also showed where it can be found directly within the video.
This is a simple solution to syntax highlighting but with more larger and complicated languages this method becomes relatively slow with the repetitive replacing. A stream based approach would be better. This method is also prone to bugs.
Adam, I'm an old fan of yours. You should make more videos. You're a legend!
Thank you mister Khoury, very clear and understandable tutorial, you speak clearly, calmly!, a good thing for a non-native English people, a good starter for playing with the Regular Expressions.

What is the best way to make the syntax highlighter interactive? The code element is usually read-only.
