I did something like this recently, but it was with super cheap 5v amplifiers off Amazon. I didn't want to have another external power connector coming off the Pi Box I built, so I used the Pi's USB port to power the amp and then cut an AUX cord in half and soldered those wires into the amp and plugged the AUX cord into the Pi and soldered the rest of the connections - USB power, and 2W speakers. Entire project cost me about $15 for sound. Only issue is you have to turn the sound all the way up in Pi settings or the signal isn't strong enough for amp to read. Great video though! Is nice to have an amp that's plug and play for the most part with no soldering irons. :)
That's what I think is the main benefit of this little guy. Plug & Play! That's the beauty of the Raspberry Pi community though. You can do one thing literally 50 ways :) Thanks for checking out the video too!
I have a pi 4b with the small raspberry case with fan (the raspberry pi one mounted on a clear brackets that clips inside the case) incl. heatsink. will this HAT clear the heatsink & avoid the fan mount?
I was able to make it work in recalbox. Some questions: - I used a shutdown and power on button, now the pin is used by the amp2. What do you use for the power? - Now i hear some sounds on the left and other on the rights, is that normal for arcade games? maybe that's the real way that it should be and i never knew 🤣 - there is no triggerhappy script in recalbox in that path. Do i need to create it? Good video, when the hifiberry worked was cool but i almost destroyed the windows because of the volume 😆
Hello It seems I have the assembly than yours but...I don't see the light on the motherboard (the RaspberryPi) though it is supplied by power...and the sound seems to be off !! But I follow the Conf Guide explained. Can someone help me ?
is there a way to connect an audio amplifier ( car type) next to the speakers? trying to make a radio that has internal speakers and externals conrtrolled seperatly by the car amplifier
As far as I can see this method no longer works with the latest version of Retropie. I have tried two SD cards one with my current image and another with a fresh install on it. I have tried just about every thing I can think off to get it working and it was working before the update just fine, granted I am a layman with the PI but if you could explain how to get the AMP 2 working again that would be great!
Hello TechWizTime, thk for your videos, I've got an issue with the amp2: After playing music for approximatively 30 minutes, i get a strage noise which sounds as short drop outs of the amp (pang). It continues to play music afterwards, but the dropouts keep coming in shorter and shorter timeframes. I think of an overheating issue, have you ever try it for a long periode without active cooling system?
Good Video Mang. Love this, but the price is a bit high IMO. Keep in mind you still need speakers for this thing, so the total price keeps climbing. I use a powered speaker bar (from Dell) for half the price and it does a decent job (plugs into the headphone jack or they have a USB version too). Amazon, Ebay and the like are placed to get them. This HiFi Berry Amp would be good for a dedicated killer game that you want to pump while playing... This I can see as its worth the cost and the larger speakers you can add for the effect. Let me know next time you are in Seattle bro. I'll hook you up with lunch and show you around the city. Peace!
In my next video on the HifiBerry, I'm going to look at incorporating some freebie / cheap speakers and see what the quality is like. It is expensive in terms of costing more than the Pi :) I've tried some USB Speakers and wasn't happy with the quality but that's just me. I've been keen to try their products out for quite some time so this was a great opportunity for me. I've got a few places to visit now when I eventually visit the states :) New York and Seattle are high on my list though! Thanks man!
i use several variations of hifiberry boards(no amps) and only on the digi+ can i get audio for advmame snaps in emulationstation! using the dac+ and light i get all audio for any game system just fine. i get snap audio in every game system except advmame! i only get navigation clicks in the advmame game menu. i looked through your website twice looking for your "volume control for hifiberry in emulationstation" twice but couldn't locate it. :( i will add that using hdmi or onboard 3.5 mm audio out, i get all audio fine. any ideas?
I'm working on that tutorial. Unfortunately I thought it would be ready by the time the video went live. I promise it will be up in the next few days. ADVMAME may need some extra configuration when it comes to the Hifiberry as I believe it's coded a bit differently from other emulators included in RetroPie!
i look forward to it! i find it very strange that it is only with snaps with advmame in emulationstation. i also have a suptronics x300 board(usb soundcard) on my pi 2 and it does that same thing. EVERYTHING works except snaps in advmame. i just can't understand it. it's in emulationstation. i am baffled to say the least. i have overcome so many hurdles in the past couple of years and i thought i had this thing licked!
If you don't have a *VPN* already, then I *highly recommend* www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/buy-vpn/techwiz-00100 or *PIA* They are very *affordable* and don't store logs. I've personally been using them for over 5 years :)

Looking forward to your next video with hifiberry. Thank you for sharing your amazing video
Great video, posted on my website. Looking forward to your projects with this addon.
Hi Jonathan, great video. Fantastic with Raspberry pi project suggestions. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! Appreciate it!
Do you have a recommendation for a heat sink and or Dan system that will work with the raspberry pie for as well as this speaker and amp?
I love the new desk
Awesome!! It feels more professional :)

Is it 60w @ 4ohm?

The Volume Control Guide is live right now! techwiztime.com/guide/retropie-volume-control/
Do i have to change a sound device speaker/pcm/Master?
Would the hifiberry dac+ pro work just as well if active speakers are being used?

Volume Control Guide is up!!!!! Hope it helps :) techwiztime.com/guide/retropie-volume-control/
I know it's pointless but for fun can a 70 volt retail store amp run off a hat on the pie?
Great vids !!!
a bit expensive. no?
It can be for those looking for more of a budget option. But for those looking for a high quality amplifier, it's relatively cheap :)
