Davies has reached the point where he considers himself to be bigger than the brand he works for; this was also the attitude of Chibnal and became the attitude of Whittaker, Tennant (now, not so much while he was in the role), Gatwa and others caught up in the present controversy. In fact, it was becoming evident towards the end of Capaldi's reign - though not on the part of Capaldi himself, I think.
Similar thinking infests those in charge of the Star Wars franchise, leading to the production of abominations like 'The Acolyte' and 'The Mandalorian', particularly in the later series of the latter!

it started to die 1/2 way thru the capaldi era, no disrespect to him but the stories got worse. whitaker was unwatchable and gave up after episode 1 ( after watching every episode from #1 in the early 60's onwards. when i heard tenant was coming back for the specials i tuned in. wish i hadnt.

Episode 0 - Gatwa sings and dances like a madman
Episode 1 - Gatwa lets his companion be covered in snot while he has fun with space babies
Episode 2 - Gatwa runs away like a coward from a Drag Queen of all things
Episode 3 - Gatwa idiotically steps onto a landmine and almost kills him self, stupid man
Episode 4 - Gatwa steps into something and disappears, abandoning Ruby for decades even if time get rewritten
Episode 5 - Gatwa makes the decision to try and save racist people and has a temper tantrum when he's not allowed to save them
Episode 6 - Gatwa kisses a pointless man pointlessly while leaving Ruby to be potentially turned into what is practically a Slitheen skin suit
Episode 7/8 - Gatwa treats Ruby's origins as a priority over the end of the world.
Gatwa is not the Doctor and should be degenerated back into Peter Capaldi

i had a theory that could save the show.
basically, we explain that a big dark part of the doctor got into the tardis console while switching from capaldi to jodie.
this could explain why since jodie the doctor has lost a lot of their darkness in character, the tardis was sucking it up for the energy.
This energy turned into and entity taking on the darkest parts of the doctor that were left to grow over the seasons.
This entity materializes in the TARDIS and then a whole episode where the doctor ends up having to sacrifice himself to rewrite time because it's impossible to beat (is basically the doctor's opposite but on steroids) and then...
We cut back to Peter's regeneration but this time before regenerating he's in a different place in the Tardis (he stays in the balcony).
Then he regenerates and into not something chibnall directed. Would give honor to gatwa for doing the right thing, get rid of the timeless child, brings back the master (even tho idk what they can do with him atp), fix chib's and RTD's problems in general and give a fresh cut back to a better opportunity and time for doctor who. i'm claiming the idea

RTD isn’t just Woke, he is lazy! He’s admitted that he thinks that 16-30 yr olds don’t want complicated stories so he simplified everything and deliberately went for confused endings. Let the viewer interpret it for themselves. He sees everything through his Gay lens and has made the new Doctor his fantasy version of the character. Doctor Who can’t improve with RTD at the helm.
This seems to be the plan over the last few years with Dr Who, a confusing plot instead of an intelligent story.
Ncuti either stands there with his mouth open or cries. And worse of all seems to be spineless. Ruby had to literally drag him into action a few times during the finale.
Don't most stories that have a series have to have a sort of template, a bible, so your plot stays on point?

When Roger Moore and Tony Curtis were doing The Persuaders action series, Roger said he could tell it was a Terry Nation script by the fast pacing, sparse dialogue and action. He was always right. Nation understood that a 45 minute adventure had to keep the viewer interested from beginning, middle and end. Those old type writers like Nation, Dicks, Holmes knew their trade. So does RTD but he’s decided that he wants to keep Who Earth bound to tell message storytelling. It’s all in his mindset! Unfortunately , that’s never going to change.
Take david tennants 10th doctor and compare with the current.there is no comparison there is also nothing to even make you think it's the same character .as already said ncuti just cries and stands there with his mouth open there is really no acting ten would have been decisive and used his great knowledge and his brain.this one does nothing let's blow a magic whistle and save all the universe with a doggy leash I mean REALLY.
@@Walesbornandbred Ruby was by far the best part of this shitshow. Millie Gibson's a really good actress who just has the misfortune of being in a really bad show. I watched the scene where Ruby's saying goodbye and she built up the moment perfectly. This show is so far beneath her abilities that I don't blame her for getting the hell out of dodge as soon as she could. She deserves a lot better.

That was literally the ending of the first episode overseen by Moffat. Matt Smith says I’m the Doctor, grandstanding that he has a reputations for vanquishing baddies. The aliens of the week literally turn and scarper. A pathetic lazy plot conclusion requiring no ingenuity on the part of the Doctor at all - just grandstanding’ be afraid cos I’m a badass ‘ - and very reflective of what was to come. Having earned the reputation, he didn’t need to do anything to justify/uphold it

@@AurumEtAes I'd already checked out of NuWho about 3 seconds after the ending of Rose, but that said, I loved Matt Smith's performance as the Doctor. I fucking hated that writing. If you went through the UK with a fine tooth comb you couldn't have come up with three worse writers than RTD, Moffatt and Chibnall.
Eccleston, Smith and Capaldi could have been excellent Doctors. In a totally different show.
Every time I see that screenshot of Ncutti Gatwa dancing in English regency apparel i just hear his disgusted sounding voice in my head saying "Cultural appropriation".

I just watched The Power of the Doctor (Jodie's finale) for the first time and as wacky and confusing as it was, it was miles above anything Gatwa has ever done.

I actually enjoyed her run, this was probably because I found Steven Moffat's very dark and overly complicated story lines a bit much and it was nice to have lighter and simpler stories, looking back it wasn't good writing, but I still found it a refreshing change of pace.
The Power of the Doctor is actually really good, though the script does help to clarify a few things (like what the Master was doing in Russia to begin with). It's a story bristling with potential - old companions staying in touch and swapping stories about their adventures with the Doctor; old and new companions connected by an old enemy in common (the Master); the Master hijacking the Doctor's regeneration and ruining the Doctor's good name; the current companion seeing her future in the old companions; the Guardians of the Edge and an existence for the Doctor during regeneration; the hologram Doctor flitting between incarnations. Unfortunately, all those good ideas are shoved into a single episode that's overstuffed with nostalgic references. In saying that, it's better than anything that Davies or Moffat wrote this year.
Amazing it took the mainstream media to admit what we all were saying for the last few weeks.

I am disgusted by RTDs betrayal of his Fellow Fans, his massively unchecked (and misplaced) ego, and his Preaching HIS Philosophy in his Self Appointed Role as the Pope Of Woke over what is appropriate content, or even appropriate delivery, of a message that should be uplifting to ALL viewers... not just the ass-kisssers that he surrounds himself with. I was once a Fan of RTD back in 2005... not is see him as a Traitor! The sight and sound of him makes me feel physically ill as it is clear that every word that comes out of his mouth, or fingers, is an extremist, bigoted, judgemental, hateful LIE!

Unfortunately it wasn't that they have "confidence in him" that allowed them to use him sparingly. It is a matter of record Gatwa was still committed to filming S4 of Sex Education for Netflix; 73 Yards was specifically structured so he could be absent.

This season added nothing to the show, except exploring how to ruin a character. They need to just rest the show till there's stories worth telling. Pull up a doctor from an alternate time line without Timeless child and drive on. I'm not a writer, I'm no expert. Just a washed fan who is so disappointed

The only way to salvage this now is sack RTD, and anyone hired during his time back and retcon Gatwa off the show cause he's damaged goods thanks to RTD's terrible writing even by SJW standards. If we were in a noninternet age, I'd even suggest gaslighting the audience into thinking Gatwa's doctor didn't happen, but hell would freeze over before that'd work nowadays

If I suddenly got in charge of Doctor Who, I would go back to the moment of Capaldi's regeneration, use green screen and CGI as needed to make him regenerate into someone other than Jodie, then focus on telling good stories. Though, because of certain episodes in Season 10, there would have to be a storyline where the new Doctor is investigating history & trying to figure out the mystery of why there's racial diversity when it doesn't belong (I would imply that when he told Bill that history's a whitewash, along with some other things, he was humoring her and her progressive beliefs but internally was confused about what was going on). Is it the Meddling Monk? (Speaking of monks, maybe I could tie the alien monks from Season 10 to the Meddling Monk in some way.) Is someone trying to erase or replace from the timeline the British people whom this Gallifreyan has grown very fond of? He must figure out what's going on and save Britain across time. Maybe tie in the legends of King Arthur returning at the hour of Britain's greatest need, and the 7th Doctor story that indicated a future version of the Doctor was Merlin. At the same time, I would reveal that the lame Deus Ex Machina at the end of the season was a false memory he gave to Bill with virtual reality tech because she was having difficulty accepting her new life as a Cyberman. But eventually he'll have to wake her up from her fantasy and have her help with stuff that's going on and he'll have to make her accept the reality that she's stuck as a Cyberman forever. And that's how problems I had with Season 10 could become the basis for intriguing stories. Maybe cast Richard E Grant as the Doctor and have a story with the Master stuck as an android so that Scream of the Shalka could be made canon in a satisfying way. Just some thoughts. Anyway, I would just pretend Jodie Whitaker and onward never happened. I guess I would also have to do something with the Superman-like hero that one special introduced, because something that big and that public (countless New Yorkers were filming him saving the world on their phones) couldn't be ignored forever. Alas, the BBC isn't interested in telling good stories, pleasing the fans, or respecting the show's history, so nothing like this will ever happen.

You don't have to pay anything. Get Plex or Jellyfin. Raise the skull and crossbones for just about anything you want from the past century and turn off your TV.
The only satisfying explanation I'll accept for the series finale is that it was the Toymaker's work: it was another part of the jigsaw puzzle he made out of the Doctor's life. Just like the goblins and the Maestro, Sutekh was part of the Toymaker's legacy: he didn't run away from the One Who Waits, but planted the mystery of the One Who Waits to disturb and unnerve the Doctor, as part of his game, for his own perverse amusement. He turned the Doctor into the Timeless Child, he caused Missy to regenerate into the Spy Master and revert to the Master's old ways, he caused 13 to regenerate back into 10, and he planted Sutekh around the TARDIS - because it amused him to do so. The Toymaker becomes the ultimate get-out cause. Because if Sutekh was there the whole time, it ruins every story after Pyramids of Mars: what was the point in the Doctor rebooting the whole universe, if Sutekh could've ended it at any time? What was the point of the Doctor of saving anyone's life in any episode, if Sutekh could've killed all life when he felt like it? But if the Toymaker was responsible, it's all just part of his puzzle, his game: he caused Ruby to make it snow, he wove the aura of mystery around her mother, he was behind the events of 73 Yards. The novelisation of The Giggle makes it clear that the Toymaker wasn't beaten but lying in wait for the next game: why not apply that to the TV series as well?

If Disney’s purpose is mass entertainment, Davies has failed miserably. Most of us aren’t interested in camp stuff, we simply can’t relate to the cringeworthy cavorting a Mardi Gras protagonist. We’re the opposite of entertained, we’re actually repelled.
Imagine what J. Michael Straczynski could have done as showrunner.
RTD just can't write. End of. Like Moffatt he paints himself into a corner with his big build up a can't pull off a resolution. See Last of the Time Lords. see Big Bang. That big old Nu Who reset button must be truly worn out now. IT WAS ALL A DREAM and they ALL CAME BACK TO LIFE so what was the actual point? So we had a CGI rat as Sutekh, but this in no way made the villain superior this time round. He was defeated easily, just like Toymaker. The one who waits waited a long time for F all. Why was Sutty obsessed with Ruby's mother? Maybe I'm missing something but how did he get defeated anyway? Because the Doctor IS LIFE??? No more, please take this utter shit away. Rest this god damn series for a decade till the kids in writing class told that 'its all a dream' endings are a pitiful cop out come of age to write us something decent.

Absolutely spot-on regarding the convenience of having a Star Trek style site-to-site transport. This is a relatively new occurrence within ST, which has divided Trekkies. Within DW it breaks the internal logic, something RTD has done a good few times this season. It smacks of lazy writing and contempt for the audience.

I actually have thought the same thing for a while now. A veiled attempt at seeing if they can get away with using chatGPT and not pay writers in the future.
Any mainstream critic that actually believed that this season is objectively good should be ignored from here on in as their judgement is clearly suspect.
This series, whatever your view of the casting choices, is just not very compelling television and is full of narrative holes that would embarrass a fan fiction writer, let alone an experienced tv writer.
So any critic that says it’s awesome is just crazy, or has taken the corporate kool-aid.
I have a theory. The reason Nu-Who worked in 2005 was because Rose Tyler was Russell’s self-insert character, his drag-queen alter ego. So she was being rescued by a charming handsome hero all the time. But now Russell inserts himself as The Doctor so it doesn’t work.
That actually makes sense.
I find the current writing to be self indulgent and masturbatory. The writer seems to think that he is above us all and untouchable, and will keep driving his train of perverse horrors until he hits the brick wall of reality. What can you do for a dying man ? It's only a matter of time.
One thing I think foreigners don't get about British media and especially the press is how two-faced they can be.
You can see them praise a person one day and then the very next moment turn savage on them and rip them a new one without any hesitation and part of this whole thing comes for how we Brits deal with being rude.
In this example, as RTD and the series is airing, it would be horribly rude of the press to say "well this sucks." because we haven't seen everything and we tend to have a lot of people saying "well if X happens then it'll be fine, yeah a bit sucked but it'll be okay if X happens." Then it doesn't happen and then the press can take the kid gloves off and savage the thing they sucked up to. With a majority of Brits we tend to try and be polite to a fault when it comes to social or public issues, behind closed doors we are sort of incredibly harsh.
So this flip the press has done now that the season's over isn't a shock for me, they were waiting to do this when the majority of the episodes were trash

It's unsalvageable with the current Doctor. Even if he wasn't who he is, the words and actions he says and does is what RTD wanted. It's not fair, but you connect the actor to the product. I "Blame" Capaldi. He said the words and jumped when they said jump. I know, not fair, but it was impossible to watch and think he was a victim.
From what I understand is during the filming of at least Ncuti's first season in Doctor Who is he was also in the middle of filming episodes for the last season of the Sex Education show.
I'm pretty sure Russell T Davies before the first episode of this season of Doctor Who had aired said that Doctor Who is no longer a Science Fiction show and is now a Fantasy show.

Doctor Who needs to be completely reset and rebuilt from scratch, go back to the original Hartnell Doctor era with a remake. Do that after the BBC sells the IP to Amazon or Netflix.

Did the BBC commission series 2 of Doctor Who I thought the BBC only commission based on ratings on a year to year basis. I hope series 2 is a lot better than the 1st. If it does not improve series 2 will be the last.
I thought it was better than the previous episodes - not saying much.
Did anyone notice how much hugging was involved over those two episodes.
This was the first episode where I thought - “wonder what’s going to happen” rather than “please get this over with”.
Also thought Gatwa had periods of being an interesting Doctor but overall doesn’t command the character.
In the end it all fizzled out though - maybe with better writing Sutekh would have realised that Ruby’s mother wasn’t special and just killed everyone.
Still don’t like Millie Gibson - she keeps pausing to think of what expression she’s meant to have.
Can’t wait for this to be cancelled (or bring back Christopher Eccleston)
Its all none canon, alt universe Apocrypha since the Tardis exploded in Twice Upon a Time. Its no more valid than a BF Audio or Titan Comic.

This last series of doctor who was terrible. Writing was sloppy boring and woke to the extreme. This is not the doctor anyone wants making the doctor into a sexual being was dumb and unimaginative the doctor has always been above base tendencies he is not human and should have stayed that way.

COLIN Baker is in my top 4. I watched a lot of Troughton, Pertwee, Baker, honestly not as much Hartnell. I don't like the feckless charm of Davison as says 6. Mccoy is great, but his episodes like Capaldi were slowly dying at script and budget level. Mccoy was stellar. Like McGann in his movie... but mostly his audio work and the amazing NIGHT of the Doctor!!! Troughton, Capaldi, Eccleston are MY DOCTOR. the 3 at the top, colin baker close !!! "This regeneration it's a bit of a clerical error anyways"! Only been a whovian since 2012 (at 30yo it was time i discovered who... was a time travel sci fi fan cuz of Chrono Trigger since 1995)

Great video. I have not enjoyed Dr. Who all. The stories are so bland and amateurish. However, Ncuti Gatwa is perfect! He's the best Dr. since Matt Smith. Better than the depressing Peter Capaldi and preachy Jodi Whitaker. He has so much energy, etc.

Leslye Headland is doing the same with "Star Wars The Acolyte". In fairness to Ncuti, if an actor is given no space to do anything fun then he can't do anything fun. Actors are restrained to the script and if the script is trash the actor can only do so much.
Just look at Halle Berry in the Catwoman movie and whoever played DB Evolution Piccolo when given an actual script in anything else. Ive never seen him in anything but I remember people being excited for him and hoping he would be like the other doctors with a bit of sass. I in short believe “Bi-Generation,” was spelled out in the episode to fit both meanings, the literal meaning and the subliminal meaning . I do admit it’s kind of weird the way this subliminal message was relayed, but that’s my opinion.
